Sidney and Margaret (Rutledge) Atwood, Alvin

In 1919 Sidney was on the list of jurors for Yuma County April term of court.

Sidney proved up two quarters in sections 12 and 13, 4N 44W in 1920. The 1920 atlas shows his residence on the west side of the claim, wtih a blacksmith shop.

Sidney Atwood is a hardware traveling salesman in Phelps County, Nebraska in 1910, 36, with Margaret 29, Geneva 8, Wauneta 7, Hiawatha 5, and Wayne ten months.
Sidney Atwood is in Valley precinct in 1920, 45 born in England, immigrating in 1876, naturalized 1917. Margaret J. is 39, born in Missouri, Wauneta B. 17, Hiawatha A. 14, and S. Wayne 10 wee born in Nebraska.

July 13, 1922 "Mr. Frank Russell, proprietor of the Russell Hardware in this city, went to Waunita, the little inland town about half way between Wray and Holyoke, the first of the week, and disposed of his stock of hardware located at Waunita to Sid Atwood, the man who has been in charge of the stock since it was installed last spring. Mr. Russell has enjoyed a good business at his branch store at Waunita and no doubt Mr. Atwood will do likewise."

Bernard V. Harless was born Feb 20, 1921 at Laird Colorado, dying November 24, 2012 at Glenwood Iowa.
Bernard V. Harless, 91, of Pacific Junction, died Nov. 24, 2012, at the Hospice With Heart facility in Glenwood. Funeral services are Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Rev. Gene Hilton will officiate. Interment will be held in the Martin Chapel Cemetery, Pacific Junction. A memorial fund has been established.
Bernard was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Laird, Colo., to Harold Victor and Geneva (Atwood) Harless. Following high school, Bernard faithfully served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp. from 1942-45.
Bernard married Myrna M. Rupe Dec. 11, 1943, in Glenwood. To this union two children were born, Karen and Gregg. Bernard was employed as a railroad clerk for Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement. He was a member of the Full Faith Church and Masonic Lodge. Bernard was a man of many talents. His woodworking, painting and making jewelry were just a few of his crafts. He could sew beautiful clothing for his family. Gardening and outdoor animals also gave him great pleasure. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed.
Preceding Bernard in death were his parents, sister, Margaret Mott and brother, Robert Harless. He is survived by his wife, Myrna Harless of Pacific Junction; children, Karen and Don Meredith of Omaha, Neb.; Gregg and Jackie Harless and grandson, Bryan Harless all of Glenwood: two half-sisters, Shirley Godfrey of Arvada, Colo.; Myra Rucker of Denver; nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

Henry Simmonds had died in 1935, buried in Mills County, Iowa.

In 1940 Logan County, Colorado, Maynard J. Revis is a laborer, 36, born in Kansas, with Geneva 38 born in Nebraska. Shirley Jean is 4, Myra Jnae 2, and Geneva's daughter Margaret Harless 9 born in Nebraska is with them.

In 1945 Denver, Maynard J. Reavis (Geneva A. ( is a driver for Amick Transfer & Stroage.
In 1969 Denver M. J. Reavis (Geneva) is retired, living at 7270 E. 70th in Commerce City.
Geneva E. Reavis 1901-1981 is buried in Thornton, Colorado # 45087319, with Maynard J. 1905-1979, # 45087318.

There's a Robert Sidney Harless 1927-2008 buried in Dallas County, Texas # 48523306.

In 1916 the Rattler advertised the Beatrice cream separator was sold by Sigler & Dempsey of Alvin, COlorado.

Wauneta Atwood married P.F. Dempsey on September 9, 1925, recorded in Yuma County.
Patrick F. Dempsey proved up 320 acres in 23 and 24, 4N 43W, in 1916. The Alvin post office was on that land at one time.
His witnesses were John Jack, William R. Workman, and James Coast of Alvin Colorado and William E. Minton of Laird, Colorado.

He was running the general store in 1920 Valley precinct, boarding with the Richards family.

In 1930 Yuma County, Patrick F. Dempsey is 40, born in Kansas, married five years to Wauneta B. 27. They have Edmund S. 3, and Wauneta's brother Wayne S. Atwood 20 is with them.

"Wauneta was established about 1925 north of Wray. It had a blacksmith and garage, a school and a store but never had a post office. It was named for Wauneta Atwood, daughter of Sid Atwood who owned the store.
Patrick and Wauneta are still in Valley precinct in 1940, with Edmund S. 13 and Francis P, 8.

Wauneta Beatrice Dempsey was born March 10, 1903, and died March 20, 1993 in Clackamas County, Oregon.
Francis Patrick Dempsey born Nov 29, 1931, died in Clackamas County, Oregon September 24, 1992, spouse Lanore.


Edmund Sidney Dempsey was born August 21, 1926, and died May 24, 1998.

In 1940 Denver, Clarence 28 born in Colorado, has no occupation, Anne 35 born in Nebraska is a clerk for the WPA. Thomas 5, Beatrice 3, and Roberta 1 were born in Colorado.

Clarence A. King, born March 5, 1912, died March 19, 1989, last residence Jefferson County.

Her brother Everett Hale Rutledge 1877-1970 is buried in Yuma # 59792230.

January 29, 1972 Greeley Tribune "Formal sentencing is scheduled Feb. 29 for Kerry Dole Casey, 24, who was convicted in district court here Thursday night of running another man down with his car. The first-degree murder conviction carries a life sentence. Authorities said the victim, Wayne Sidney Atwood, 61, of Commerce City, was killed when struck by a car while he was walking in a field near Brighton, northeast of Denver last April. Casey testified he intended only to frighten Atwood - but lost control of his car in the freshly plowed field. Casey told the court he had met Atwood only a few hours before in a Brighton area lounge. He testified that later they were riding around in his (Casey's) car when he became angry and made Atwood get out and walk. Prosecuting Atty. Robert Braswell, said, however, "The defendant deliberately intended to hit Atwood. He aimed at Afwood and he killed him.""
