Rowan E. and Nellie (Goolsby) Veal, Alvin


George I. Veal married Ada J. Dean on Feb 1, 1877 in Cass County, Indiana.

In 1880 Richardson County, Nebraska, George Veal is 22, farming, with A.L 20. C. J. is 2, R.E. four months, both boys born in Nebraska.

William M. Veal, age 20, son of George and Addie Dean, married Myrtle Holland, age 18 born in Kansas on October 1, 1905 at Stella, Nebraska.

Rowan E. Veal, age 24, born in Nebraska to George Veal and Ada Dean, married Nellie Goolsby, age 18, daughter of George Goolsby and Lizelda Thompson, on October 5, 1904 at Verdon, Nebraska.

In 1909 James McDonald "Jim" and Olive Ann Veal Workman moved  to Yuma County. 



Nellie Goolsby was born March 29, 1887 at Shubert Nebraska.

In 1900 Richardson County, Nebraska, Geo. Goolsby born March 1843 in Nennessee is married 34 years to Elvia Sept 1846 Ohio. Ebenezer Nov 1867 and Nellie March 1886 were both born in Nebraska.

George, "Co C. 5th Missouri S. M. Cavalry" is buried in Verdon born 1843 # 101677886, with Eliza E. (Thompson) Goolsby 1847-1930 # 101677809.

1908 Verdon
Mrs. Rowen Veal of Champion, Neb., arrived Tuesday for a visit with her mother, Mrs. Eliza Goolsby."

1907 Verdon "Mrs. Rowen Veal and baby returned to their home at Champion, Nebraska, after a visit with relatives here."

In 1910 Richardson County, Nebraska, Rowan E. Veal born Feb 1880 is a laborer for Asa and Allie A. BUsh .
March 18, 1910 "R.E. Veal and J.M. Workman were up from Laird the latter part of last week.

In 1910 Yuma County, Rowan E. Veal is 30, with Nelle M. 23, married six years. She's had three children, two living. Alda is 3 born with the;m in Nebraska, and Jesse C. 1 born in Colorado.

December 5, 1912 Wray "R. N. Veal and James Coast of Alvin were trading in our burg, Tuesday."
Rowan E. Veal proved up two quarters in sections 22 and 23, 4N 43W in 1913 - about a mile west of Alvin.

November 6, 1913 "Mrs. R. E. Veal and two children are guests of Mrs. Charles Felt. Mr. Veal is expected to arrive from Denver this week."


November 13, 1913 "R. E. Veal came in from Denver this week to look after his farm and other business interests in this locality."
"Jessie Veal has been sick the past week with tonsilitis.

November 27, 1913 " Mrs. R. E. Veal and two children left this week for Verdan, Nebraska, where they expect to spend most of the winter with Mrs. Veal's mother."

December 4, 1913 "R. E. Veal will leave today to join his wife at Verdon, Nebraska. After a short time, they will return to their farm here."

January 8, 1914 "R.E. Veal and family are expected home soon."

January 15, 1914 "Mrs. C. Felt received word from R. E. Veal announcing the death of their infant baby. It was buried Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Veal have the deepest sympathy of their many friends here and we long for their return home from Verdun, Nebraska, to their home north of Wray."

January 29, 1914 "R.E. Veal came in Sunday and is a guest in the Chas. Felt home."

April 23, 1914 "Mr. Newport has moved from the John Paynter farm to the R.E. Veal farm a mile north of Alvin."

In 1920 Yuma County, Rowan is 40, Nellie M. 32, Elda 13, Jessie 10, and Bonnell 3 born in Nebraska.

In 1930 Yuma County, Rowan is 50, Nellie 43, W. Bonnell 13, June L. 7, and Rowan E. 3.

In 1940, Rowan is 60, Nellie M. 53, and Rowan Jr. is 13. Silas Neifert is a relative, 62, widowed, born in Nebraska.

Mildred would be a niece of Rowan November 6, 1941 "Mrs. William Veal of Arvin, Califs former Nebraska resident, informed friends here of the death of her daughter, Mildred, in an auto accident near Arvin. Her daughter’s husband and t.heir small child were injured in the crash. They lived at San Paulo, Calif. Mildred is a niece of Mrs. John T. Holland, 1410 South I Twenty-first street, Lincoln. "


Rowan registered for WWII in Yuma County, living on the Holyoke Route from Wray, born February 6, 1880 at Stella, Nebraska.

Rowan Elton Veal, Sr. 1880-1964 is buried in Wray # 81498372, with Nellie G. Veal 1887-1968 # 81498303.

Their son Rowan Jr. 1926-1948 is also buried there, serving in WWII Navy.

GEORGIA ELDA

Georgia was born January 20, 1907 at Imperial Nebraska, to R.E. Veal and Nellie Golsby, dying September 28, 1964 in Reno, Nevada.

Georgia married Edward Bower Richards on July 30, 1924 in Yuma COunty.
They're farming in Yuma County, Valley precinct in 1930, Bower 24 and Elda 23 both born in Nebraska. Betty Jane 3 and Keith six months born in Colorado.


WILDA BONNELL VEAL

Wilda B. Veal married F. Edward Gilstrap in Wray on June 4, 1938.

Wilda is married to Floyd Gilstrap, 27, in 1940 Yuma County, with son Rowan 1.

Floyd 1913-2005 and Wilda Gilstrap 1916-1981 are buried in Wray.

JESSIE
Jessie Veal married Laurence Yost on June 19, 1926, recorded in Phillips County, COlorado.

1960 Emporia Kansas "Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Harriman and son Harvey, 507 Lincoln St., had as guests for the weekend Mrs. Harriman's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Yost, Englewood, Calif., and her brother, Lawrence Yost, and his family, Wray, Colo. The Yosts were also guests of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Schmidt, 214 West First St., and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Harriman, 217 South East St."

Jessie 1909-1995 is buried in Wray # 62688974, with Lawrence 1904-1976.

"Wayne Burdett Yost was born in the Wray Hospital, March 25, 1927 to Lawrence Albert and Jessie Olive (Veal) Yost. He passed away February 16, 2014 at Hillcrest Care Center.
He attended Idalia Schools. He worked for Gale Rogers Wheat Farm at Armel, Colorado for two years prior to joining the Army. He served with Headquarters Company 1st  Battalion 311th Infantry Regiment, 78thDivision for five months in the European Theater Operations. He served in the Army from June 27, 1945 to November 29th, 1946. He was serving in Germany when he was hospitalized and was returned to the United States on a hospital ship.
On June 19, 1949, Wayne was united in marriage to June R. Newbanks at the Presbyterian Church in Wray, Colorado. To this union, one son, Allen Wayne Yost was born. Wayne worked for the Yuma County Roads and Bridge Department for 20 years. When he worked for the county he worked for the bridge crew operating heavy equipment. Wayne worked for the City of Wray for 15 years, during the time he worked for the city, he was the foreman of the street department. He retired from the City of Wray, but before he retired, he worked  with Sonny and Merle Ritchey putting in underground sprinklers. Later forming Ritchey, Ritchey & Yost, north of Wray, in which he later retired.
Wayne became a member of the First Christian Church on May 12, 1968. He was a member of the Automaniac’s Car Club. He loved riding his 49 Harley Davidson and once rode on the Gypsy Tour to Sturgis. He was a member for over 65 years of the VFW Club. He served on the Honor Guard during some of that time. He was also a former member of the Elks Club. Wayne was an officer for a few years during that time.
 Preceding him in death were his parents, his parent-in-laws, Izero and Spencer Newbanks, brother, Dean and wife, Mary, sister-in-law, Nell Newbanks Wilson, brother-in-laws, Lloyd, Roy and Louis Newbanks.
He is survived by his wife, June of 64 years; son, Allen; brother, Steve and wife, Joyce; brother-in-law, John & wife, Connie Newbanks; sister-in-laws, Madeline and husband, Joe Conrad; and Merna & husband, Larry Skipworth. He also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Wayne will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Wray, Colorado with Rev. Steve Wynkoop officiating. Interment was held in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the Republican Valley VFW Post #4671. Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. "



1938 Greeley, Colorado "Mr. and Mrs. William Veal and family left Monday for California to make their home. They are driving thru in a car. Mr. Veal has been employed by J. W. Purvis. "

William M. Veal 1885-1969 is buried in Loveland # 155277455, with Myrtle 1887-1968.

Carl would be a nephew of Rowan
"Carl Lawrence Veal, son of William M. and Myrtle Veal, was born August 27, 1911, at Stella, Nebraska.He departed this life March 23, 1968, at the age of 56 years.In the year of 1930 Carl came with his mother and father to a ranch west of Parks, Nebraska, where they were employed.On December 3, 1933, he was united in marriage to Erma A. Hardwick at the home of her parents.Two sons and a daughter came to bless their home. They were engaged in farming in Dundy county until the year of 1957.In June of 1967 he began working at the Dundy County Processors with his wife and son, Stanley.In October of that year he was stricken with the illness that proved fatal.In 1928 he was graduated from high school at Stella, Nebraska, where he was also a member of the Community Church of Stella.He was a member of the Masonic Order, Justice Lodge No. 180, AF&AM in Benkelman.
Carl's great love of hunting and fishing made him many friends.He was always a kind and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Erma; two sons, Bill Veal of Milford, Nebr., and Stanley Veal of Benkelman; one daughter, Carol West, of McCook; four grandchildren, Kelly and Melinda Hinkle of McCook, Timmy and Mark Veal of Milford; his mother and father, William and Myrtle Veal, of Loveland, Colo; three brothers, John of Boulder, Colorado, Paul of San Fernando, California, Edward of Englewood, California; two sisters, Ruth Workman of Gilman, Iowa, and Connie Green of Van Nuys,
California; and a host of friends.He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred. "

William would be a nephew of Rowan
"William E. Veal, 91, of Grinnell and formerly of Visalia, California, died June 25, 2008, at the Mayflower Homes in Grinnell.
A family gathering will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
A graveside service with military honors is pending at the Visalia Public Cemetery in Visalia, California
Memorial contributions may be directed to the William E. Veal Memorial Fund.
The son of William M. and Myrtle O. Holland Veal, Bill was born July 30, 1916, in Stella, Nebraska. He later moved to Parks, Nebraska and was a 1931 graduate of Parks High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II.
He was married to Pearl Bacus in 1946, in Yakima, Washington. The couple lived in Seattle where he was employed with Lockheed for several years. In the late 1950's, they moved to Manhattan Beach, California and he was employed with the city until 1973. The couple then retired to Visalia. After the death of his wife in 2002, he later moved to Grinnell in 2005 to be near his family. He had been a resident of the Mayflower Homes since early 2008.
Bill was a member of the Visalia American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid sports fan. He was active in a bowling league and enjoyed horse racing. He was quiet natured and held a great sense of humor.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Workman of Grinnell and Connie Green of Lancaster, California; two nieces, Jan Lovig of Gilman and Patricia Edaburn of Cedar Rapids; and a nephew, Paul Workman of Rock Creek Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; his son, Jack Veal; three brothers, John, Carl, and Paul Veal; and one sister, Mildred Veal. "
