Edward died February 5, 1981. "Edward Leroy Ault was born August 17, 1894, northeast of Laclede near the Vermillion River. His father, Lyman Ault, came to Kansas in 1885 and settled near Laclede, he married Julia McKown, daughter of James Andrew and Saphronia (Torrey) McKown. The McKown family came to Pottawatomie county in 1861.
The Ault family moved to a farm Edward's father bought when Edward was eight years old, where the father spent the rest of his life. Edward was one of nine children, one died when about two.
Edward is a man of many names. He uses the name Roy but to most he is known as "Stub". He has been called "Stub" as long as he can remember and he thinks it is because as a child he was as wide as he was tall.
On December 29, 1919, he married Pearl Drake, daughter of Ed and Maude Drake. They moved three miles west of Belvue but a few years later moved back to home country, seven miles northwest of Belvue. He lived there until he moved to Havensville in 1972. Stub and Pearl had two children, Lyman, born in 1920 and he died in 1969. He married Margaret Humfeld, from Clay Center and they had two children, Mary Margaret and Marcia Ann. Their other child, Marcia, born in 1923, married Louis Smith and they are the parents of four children, Mona, Steve, Mark and Jeff.
