Yuma County Pioneer Photographs:

Bert Kohl, Eckley

In 1880 Johnson County, Nebraska Jacob Kohl, 41 and Lovina 37 have Elias 14, William W. 10, Mary 7, Nellie J. 6, John 3, and Henry two months.

Belleville, Kansas Telescope 1961 contained some history "Mrs. Gertie Kohl Sankey and her twin brother, Bert, were born in a dugout three miles northwest of town. The indenture of the dugout and the old well still stand on the bank of the river"

In 1885 Jewell County, Kansas, "Ed Bertie" and twin Gertie are one, with Jacob 46, Hester, 39, Elias 17, Wallace 14, Mollie 12, Nellie 10, John 6, and Henry 4.

In 1910 Jewell County, Kansas, Bert is 26, married to Annie 28.  They have Roy 8 and Lulu 4.

Bert proved up 320 acres in 23 and 26, 3N 45W in 1918, witnesses Frank O. Jonson, Floyd G. Berg, Harry B. Maxwell, and James A. Thomas, all of Wray.

They're in Yuma County in 1920, "Birt" 35, born in Kansas, Anna 38 in Nebraska.  Roy and Lula born in Nebraska, and Elmer 7 born in Kansas.

In 1930 they're in Josephine County, Oregon, with only Elmer.  Bert and Elmer work on city streets.  Roy is a stock grower in Summit County, married to Veronica, 21, and they're there in 1940, too, with Shirley G. 6, and Veronica's mother Josephine 68, widowed.

In Lane County Oregon in 1940, Bert works at a lumber camp.  They said they were in Clacamas (sic) County Oregon in 1935.

In registering for WWII Bert said he was born April 22, 1883 in "Jull" County, Kansas.

Bert and Anna are buried in Eugene, Lane County.
