Fred and Emily Blake, sons George Blake, Morris Blake

The meat market now called Blake & Son has borne the name of Blake since 1874. Fred Blake and wife arrived in Hastings, Nebraska from
Oxfordshire,  England, in 1873. Mr. Blake became associated the following year in the meat business with William H. Stock, whom he soon bought out. This business was located at the present site of the James A. Benson barber shop. 621 West Second Street. In 1886 Mr. Blake erected the brick building standing at the northwest corner of Lincoln Avenue and First Street

In 1880 Hastings F.H. 32 and E. 30 have Fred 10, George 8, Ada 7, Thomas 6, Arthur 4, and Benj. 1

In 1885 Hastings they have Fred 16, George 13, Ada 12, Thomas 11, Arthur 9, Benjamin 7, Morris 4, and Anna 2.

1887 "Fred Blake is about to build a large packing house at Hastings."There's a Bennie Blake  1879-1895 buried in Hastings 117247023

In 1900 Fred Blake, 53 and Emily F. 52, both born in England, are in Eckley precinct.  Morris 19, Annie 16,  Alice M. 14 and James 11 were all born in Nebraska.

1900 Yuma "Mrs. Dr. Everett of Omaha arrived in Yuma Friday night for a visit with her parents, Mr.a nd Mrs. Fred Blake."

"After a visit here with his parents, and a trip in the mountains, Arthur Blake returned to Hastings one day last week."

E.L. Waters had settled near Yuma in 1888, but moved to Greeley in 1898.  He was an auctioneer, and they had eight children.  E. L. and Clarissa are buried in Yuma.

 Eva M. Waters in in 1900 Greeley, born March 1877 in Wisconsin, with parents Edgar and Clara - landlords.  Eva is in school.

 1904 "A marriage license was issued to Morris  J. Blake and Miss Eva  M. Waters of Yuma on April 16.  Morris Blake is a prominent young ranchman near Yuma."  They were married in Yuma by J. Winterbourne, minister, of Akron.

In 1910 Hastings Fred Sr. is 62, Emily 62, with Anne 20 and Alice 19, both born in Nebraska.

June 26, 1908 "Born, to M.J. Blake and wife of the north hills last Saturday, a fine baby girl.  M.J. is especially proud of the new addition to the family because they already have two boys."

1909 "Fred Blake, of Hastings, Neb., father of Morris and George Blake of North Robb, was here on business this week."

1909 "Mrs. A. T. Everett and sons, of Omaha and Miss Alice Blake, of Hastings, returned to their homes this week after a week's visit with their brother George Blake."

1910  $100 REWARD Stolen from Fred Blake's Barn, Hastings, Nebraska, Black horse fifteen years old, weight 1000 pounds; star in forehead, white left hind foot,  wire cut on right front foot.. Was hitched to a rubber tire Moon Bros buggy. Fred Blake will give $50.00 for the return of property and Adams county will give $50.00 for arrest and conviction of thief.

1910 Births - Morris Blake and wife, April 18, boy...

In 1910 Morris 29, and Eva 34 have Bennie 5, Robert 3, Laura 1, and William newborn.

In 1910 Yuma County George 36 and Kate 33 Blake both born in Nebraska, have been married seven years.

Morris J. Blake proved up on 320 acres in 22 and 27, 3N 45W in 1911

George proved up on  160 acres in 26 and 27, 3N 45W in 1912, and another 160 acres in 34 and 26 in 1916.  They were contiguous.  1912 witnesses were C.P. Shroyer and Percy Byers.

1911 Wray 

1912 "Mr. and Mrs. George Blake came down from their ranch in the sand hills several miles northwest and met the parents of Mrs. Blake, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kolb, who arrived Saturday from Hastings, Neb."

1913 "A Sunday School was organized last Sunday in district 38.  This school is north of town about 17 miles, in the Morris Blake neighborhood."

Edward H. Lightner, a 1930's graduate of Hastings High School, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014. While he was in school, he worked at Fred Blake's Pioneer Meat Market. From 1933-1942, Ed worked for the Johnson Fruit Company.

1905 "We are in receipt of a postal stating that Mr. and Mrs. Morris J. Blake, formerly of Yuma, but now of Hastings, Nebr., are the proud parents of a little son Jan 24th."

Morris John Blake registered in Furnas County, Nebraska, saying he was born May 6, 1881, and nearest relative Eva May Blake of Edison, Furnas County.

In 1920 Furnas County M.J. 38 and Eva 42 have Ben 15, Robert 13, Laura 11, Darrel 9,, Marjorie 6, and Marion 4.

In 1930 Morris and Eva are in Weld County, with Robert 22, Laura M. 21, Darrel T. 19, Marjorie E. 17, Marion J. 14, Nebraska, and Allen W. 9, Nebraska.

They're alone in 1940 Arapahoe County, farming, saying they were in Weld County in 1935.

 They were in Fort Collins  Single story frame dwelling, constructed c. 1940. Located at 2613 Laporte Avenue, and owned by Ben Blake, c/o M. J. & Eva M. Blake, Route 3, Box 19, Fort Collins, Colorado

In 1910 Arthur 34 is in Eckert, Delta County, Colorado, married six years to Anna 24, born in Indiana. 

In 1920 Hastings Arthur 41, a real estate dealer, and Anna 37  have no children.

George and Katie are in Washington County, Kansas in 1930, farming
