Ella Trough

Ella Conley married D.M. Kling April 12, 1888 in Holdrege, Nebraska.  He's 26, born in Pennsylvania, she's 18, born in Missouri.

In 1900 Omaha in a big rooming house David Kling, October 1871 New York, is widowed, a laborer.

In 1910 Dave M. Kling, 42, widowed is lodging with May F. Wood, 52,  in Omaha.  He's a teamster at a livery barn.

In 1920 Omaha David Kling, 58, is divorced, a barn foreman for a transfer company, lodging with Dr. Walter Davore and his wife

In 1896 James Trough was elected a delegate from Minden to the Nebraska state McKinley League.

Ella Kling, 31, married Aaron H. Trough, 39, in Minden, Nebraska November 4, 1899.  Must have been transcribed wrong !

In 1900 Kearney, Nebraska, James Trough, born Nov 1860 in Pennsylvania, and Ella April 1869 in Missouri, (father Ireland, mother Indiana)  have just been married.  Neither have occupations.  She's had two children, one living.  That must be the Mary Kling, Jan 1892 in Nebraska

1903 "J.H. Trough of Minden had the largest exhibit of poultry at the McCook Poultry show.  He brought in a nice string of Barred Plymouth Rocks, Buff Orpingtons and Rose Comb Leghorns..."

In 1909 E.B. Trough of Minden was in charge of the Kearney County exhibit at the Nebraska State Fair.

In 1910 Minden, Nebraska (about twenty miles from Kearney) Ella, 40, is widowed.

In 1900 Kearney County Louisa Conley, born September 1848 in Indiana, is widowed, cooking for the John Davidson hotel.

John Conley of Holdrege began employment at a hotel in McCook.

In 1910 Phelps County (where Holdrege is) Louise Conly is 65, widowed, born in Indiana, a servant in the Leslie  Simpson house, and Leslie's mother 76.

In 1920 Denver there's a Louisa Conley, 70, born in Indiana, father Kentucky, widowed, with Frank, 41, born in Missouri.  Frank's father was born in Ireland, mother in Pennsylvania - if that's correct, Frank is not her son.  Frank's wife Mary, 41, was born in Colorado, and they have three kids, all born in Colorado  (one, Thomas Francis Conley, Jr. was a Rear Admiral in WWII and Korea, buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery).    Frank Conley - dying Feb 26, 1953, Anna Bell Conley 1879-1897 and Louisa Conley 1848-1925 are in the Holdrege cemetery.......  Frank Conley married Mayme Canning Feb 1, 1903 in Denver.    

Ella proved up two quarters in 2, 3S 47W in 1916, witnesses Wilford H. Dinsmore, Flemen H. Casto, Leroy Elliott, and Melvin E. Tarkinton.

 1913 "Mrs. Ella Trough, living south of town, returned Wednesday from a visit with relatives in Nebraska."

1913 Mrs. Ella Trough had unclaimed mail at the Yuma post office.

1914 "Mrs. Ella Trough, of south of Yuma, returned yesterday from a two-weeks' visit with her mother at Holdrege, Nebr."

I don't see any record of Ella Trough after the 1916 claim - so she probably changed names.

(There was a George W. Conley proving up 320 acres in 32, 2S 47W in 1920 - that's about three miles away

1915 "George Conley, one of our Center Precinct corn farmers, took leave of absence this week for a few weeks' visit with his sister at DeWitt, Nebr."  That has to be Clinton and Sarah Prather, with whom George was living in DeWitt in 1930. -George is 66, born in Ohio.  In 1900 George, a painter,  is living with his brother William in Jefferson County, Ohio.  In 1910 George, a farm laborer,  is with his nephew Thomas E. Conley - operator of a business college -  and Josephine in Gage County, Nebraska. So George probably isn't related to Ella......)

1925 Beatrice Nebraska - Ella Kling Yates was accepted as a transfer member into a group.  -  possible

In 1940 a Mrs. Ella Trough is a laundry worker in Compton California.  - possible

In 1876 St. Francois County, Missouri Hiram and Louisa Conley have Almira (who died in 1889), Luella, (under 10), and Hiram also under 10.

But this is a little off from the Missouri census - Elmina's age different than Ella, and

Hiram was in a home for disabled veterans later.

In 1880 St. Louis Louisa J. Conley, 40, born in Illinois,  has Elmina 15, Hiram 9, John 3, and Thomas four months - Louisa is 'keeping house' and there is no marital status.

In 1880 St. Louis  Luella Conley, 13, is a "Nurse Girl"   But the age is off by five years, and this one appears to have married Jacob Steitz and ended up in California.

In 1885 Johnson/Kearney County D. Townsend, 38, and Emagene 35 have Flora, 17, Geo 15, Charles 12, and Laura 8, all born in New York.

Lessie Trough, daughter of A.H. and Flora Trough, died March 31, 1892, aged 3 years, 11 months, 4 days - and is buried in the Akron Cemetery.

1888 Akron "City Marshal Townsend is making a good record as a faithful and efficient officer.  We are glad to see him making it interesting for persons who haul dead animals within town limits to be left to decay.  Such persons will be taught a lesson as Mr. Towndsend (sic) has his eyes on some of this class."

Flora Townsend, born April 1868 in New York, is in Brush Colorado in 1900 - divorced - living alone, working in a laundry.

David Townsend cash-claimed 160 acres in section 9, 1N 52W in 1891 - that would be near Akron.

1891 "Miss Flo Townsend is here from Denver to visit relatives and friends."

November 1897 Akron "Flora Townsend is visiting her mother in Denver."

In 1898 David Townsend was a witness for the timber claim of Andrew J. Hall of Holdrege Nebraska for a quarter in 13, 3N 51W.

1898 "Dave Townsend went to Denver yesterday morning. He received word that his son, George, is lying low with typhoid fever in that city.  WE trust that he will recover after the fever has run its course."

David is ranching in Washington County in 1900, born April 1847, Emagene Feb 1850, Flora April 1868, George June 1870, and Lura Dec 1876, all born in New York.  So Flora was listed twice in 1900.

1900 Akron "Miss Lura Townsend was here this week visiting her father and brother.  She left Tuesday for Brush where she will visit a few days before returning to her home in Denver."

Flora E. Townsend married John A. Gilbertson in Denver January 24, 1906.

In 1910 Brush John A. Gilbertson, 52 and Florence E. 43, both born in New York, have been married five years.  John is a civil engineer.

 David Townsend April 1, 1847- Dec 8, 1929 and Emogene Feb 8, 1851 - Jan 7, 1902 are buried in Akron -

John had lived in Morgan County - mentioned in 1884 and 1886 newspapers. He had homesteaded in 1889 Morgan County, and then in 1919 he claimed some Desert land.

1899 Yuma "John Gilbertson, the good-looking and popular city marshal of Brush, one the most prosperous town on the B. & M., was a Yuma visitor this week."

In 1922 the "heirs of Florence E. Gilbertson" proved up 320 acres in 1N 46W - Morgan County.

Lura Willa Townsend married Edwin V. Munroe in Denver December 8, 1923
