In 1880 Marion County, Iowa, Henry Hughes is a miner, 38, born in Illinois, Jane M. 34 Pennsylvania, Margaret 13 and Ester 11 in Illinois, Ellen 8, Mary 6, Elizabeth 4, John 2, and Wm. H. two months, all born in Iowa.

In 1885 Jasper County, Iowa, Henry "Hews" is 46, Jane A. 38, Margaret J. 17, Ellen 13, Mary A. 11, Elizabeth 9, John 7, William 4, and George 2.

In 1895 Jewell County, Kansas, Henry Hughes is 57 born in Sinclair County Illinois, Jane A. 48 in Pennsylvania, Elizabeth 18 and John 17 born in Guthrie County Iowa, William 16 born in Marion County Iowa, George 12, and Richard 10 both born in Jasper County, Iowa.

Henry 1840-1897 is buried in Jewell County # 11002741.

In 1900 Jewell County, Jane is widowed, born Feb 1846 in Pennsylvania, John E. Sept 1877 Iowa, Lizzie M. Nov 1875 Iowa, William March 1880 Iowa, George K. Aug 1882 Iowa, and Richard O. April 1885 Iowa.

December 1921 Beloit, Kansas "Mrs. Ella Burke of Sidney, Nebraska, [one family member said she was in Iowa.] left for her home this morning. She had been spending the past six months visiting her mother, Mrs. Henry Hughes, in Jewell county, and her sister, Mrs. M. E. Danills, near Beloit."

Jane is buried in Jewell County, Star Cemetery 1846-1925 # 11002751.

March 1913 Wray, Colorado "R. O. Hughes, who lives at Jewel City, Kansas, was in this place looking over the country the latter part of last week."

April 1915 "Hughes Bros. and Bartlett and Fred Burdick were county seat visitors this week. They were petitioning Uncle Sam to allow them to break out more on their homesteads."

Richard proved up 320 acres in section 21, 3S 44W in 1916, next to George K. Hughes' claim in sections 21 and 22, also in 1916.

May 24, 1917 "Mr. George Hughes is listing corn for L. S. Willoughby. Mr. Dick Hughes went to Bird City Saturday morning.
Mr. George Hughes was working for Mr. L. S. Willoughby.
Dick and George Hughes and Arthur Bartlett have returned from Kansas."

These two pictures of their soddy were taken the day after Halloween. Everything was on top of the house so the kids wouldn't destroy anything. Then they kept watch through the night.

"These pictures were in my mother's collection and she told me about her great uncles who they called "The Uncle Boys" because they were near the same age as their nieces and nephews (my grandmother, Bessie Mae (Bartlett) Crabtree) and her siblings. In 1940 Sherman County, Kansas, "R.O." is farming, 54, with brother "J.E." 62, both born in Iowa.

Richard registered for WWII in Goodland Kansas, living at Ruleton, Kansas, with reference William Henry Hughes.

Richard Oliver Hughes, born April 9, 1885 in Iowa, mother Kay, died February 19, 1945 in Los Angeles County.

GEORGE

In 1925 Goodland, Kansas, G.K. Hughes 42 is farming, with sister Elizabeth 49.

In 1930 Sherman County, Kansas, George K. Hughes has no occupation, 45, born in Iowa, married to Lydia 38 born in Serbia. They've been married one year, the first marriage for both.

George appplied in 1936 for a delayed birth certificate, saying he was born August 15, 1882 in Otley Iowa to Henry Hughes and Jane Ann Kay. His siter wMargaret Hughes Schuetz of Morrill County Iowa [should be Nebraska] said she was present at his birth.

George K. Hughes 1882-1967 is buried in Goodland, Kansas # 88183841.

So is sister Elizabeth 1875-1966 # 88183825.
So is John Edward Hughes 1877-1943 # 88183847.

So is Mary A. Danills 1873-1957 # 86781447 and her husband Martin 1877-1950.

Martin Danills was a merchant miller in Beloit Kansas, son of Edward and Victoriaa (Chidres) Danills, who retired to Chicago, owning two good farm properties in Mitchell County, Kansas, Victoria dying in 1914. Martin had a brother Joesph E. Danills born n Mitchell COunty 1872, farming in Fairfield, Camas County, Idaho. A sister Mrs. Grace M. Collins was living at Los Angeles, California.
1922 Beloit, Kansas "M. E. Danills and Lynn Watson are in Colorado, working on the Danills' farm near Bennett, about 30 miles from Denver. Threshing is finished, and they are plowing for the new crop."

Mary A. Danills died July 9, 1957 in Los Angeles County, mother Kay, father Hughes.

Margaret Schuetz 1867-1954 is buried in Morrill County, Nebraska # 84365621.

Esther Blanche (Hughes) Bartlett 1869-1944 is buried in Saint Francis, Kansas # 14432379.

Ella Hughes, 26, daughter of Henry Hughes and Jane Anna Kay, married Carl E. BUrke 29, born in Sweden, both of Cheyenne County, Nebaraska on May 13, 1898.

In 1900 Sidney, Cheyenne County, Nebraska, Ella Burke, born June 1871 in Iowa, is married two years to Carl Burk born August 1868 in Sweden, a day laborer. Mary was born May 1899 in Nebraska.

In 1910 Sidney, Ella 'has own income', widowed, 38, with Hellen 10.

In 1920 Sidney, Helen M. is a bank bookkeeper, Ella no occupation.

Aunt Ellie in the 1910 census was listed as 'Nellie" - they lived in Jackson Iowa and she died in Los Angeles in 1956.

In 1930 Pasadena, Ella Burke, 58, is living with daughter Helen M. Ledbetter 30, Carl E. Ledbetter 35, an Margret E. Ledbetter 6.

All four are still in Pasadena in 1940.

Ella, born June 17, 1871 in Iowa, died August 18, 1956 in Los Angeles County.

Helen M. Burke married Carl E. Ledbetter in Denver on June 16, 1921.

Helen Mary (Burke) Ledbetter 1899-1993 died in Sacramento, California, per # 139041293, with an unknown burial.
Carl Eldridge Ledbetter 1894-1974 also died in California with an unknown burial, per FindaGrave.
