1914 Idalia "Walter Manger of Nebraska was here visiting his cousins , Adolph and Ted Dieckmann , from Tuesday till Saturday . "

December 1934 "John Frederick Dieckmann, well known and highly respected citizen of Idalia neighborhood passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and days. As we write this brief notice funeral arrangements have not been completed. Mr. Dieckmann was the father of Mrs. Henry Gerber. The obituary notice is not available for this week but will be printed in a later issue."

"John Frederick Dieckmann was born in Femme Osage, St. Charles County, Missouri, December 25, 1861. There he gained his education in the parochial school of his home till his confirmation, laying a solid foundation for the strong faith he later manifested. A few years later he went to Levacy, Mo., to work on a farm. Returning to his home place lie was married to Miss Emilie Haffner on the 20th of May, 1890. The happy young couple made their home then at Levacy, Mo., for several years. In 1899 they located in Lincoln county, Kansas, but again the call of the West came to them and they removed in 1904 to Thomas county, Kansas, not far from Brewster. Then Colorado drew them still farther west and on Nov. 18, 1910 they made their home here northwest of Idalia, where they have been residing since. Seven children came to bless this happy home, five daughters and two sons. The family circle was broken suddenly when in 1922 the eldest son was suddenly taken from them by a flash of lightning.
Frugal and industrious and of a deep religious disposition, one of his characteristics was his unfailing optimism, which revealed to him always even in the darkest cloud the silver lining. In all things he saw a Father handshaping life's events for him and this taught him, never to despair but to hope for the time when the Father would make all things clear. In late years he suffered much at times with a heart ailment. Last Monday he was seized with another attack. On Tuesday, at sundown, Dec. 4, his earthly sun went down and he quietly went to sleep, aged 73 years, 11 months and 10 days.
Those that mourn are his faithful wife, his children: Mrs. Frieda Wudke, Herndon, Kan; Pauline Gerber, Idalia; Nellie Ledford, San Francisco, Calif.; Martha Nelson, Denver; Theophile, at home; Gertrude Fleer, Idalia; four brothers, one sister, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, other relatives and a host of friends that knew and appreciated him. Burial was Friday, Dec. 7, at the Idalia cemetery."

May 14, 1936 "Mrs. J. F. Dieckman passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wudke, at Herndon, Kan., last Thursday morning. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Buchmueller Friday afternoon. The remains were laid to rest beside the husband at the Idalia cemetery, west of town. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. "

"Emilie Hafner was born at Femme Osage, St. Charles county, Mo., Feb. 14, 1867. At the age of 14 years she was confirmed in the Evangelical church of that place. She was married to John Frederick Dieckman May 20, 1890. After nine years in Missouri the family moved to Lincoln county, Kansas. Five years later they moved to Thomas county, Kansas, and on Nov. 18, 1910 to the home place near Idalia.
Seven children came to bless this home, five daughters and two sons. This family circle was suddenly broken in 1922 when the eldest son was suddenly taken from them by a bolt of lightniing, and again on Dec. 4, 1934 when her beloved husband was taken from her.
A lingering disease claimed her for years, causing her great suffering. After her husband's death she could no longer care for herself and went to her eldest daughter's home at Herndon, Kansas, where she received loving care until death claimed her at 3:30 a. m. May 6, 1936, at the age of 69 years, 2 months, 22 days.
She leaves to mourn her departure her children: Frieda Wudke of Herndon, Kansas; Pauline Gerber, Idalia, Colo.; Nellie Ledford, San Francisco, Calif.; Martha Nelson, Denver, Colo.; Theophile Dieckmann, Idalia, Colo.; Gertrude Fleer, Aurora, Colo.; also two brothers, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild."
