"Stan Beson passed away suddenly at his home in Greeley on Aug. 23, 2014, one day after his 89th birthday.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1925, in Sterling, Colo., to Jesse Beson and Genevieve (Mitchell) Beson. Stan grew up in New Raymer, Colo., until his family moved to Greeley where he graduated from Greeley High School. He attended Colorado State College (now UNC) until enlisting in the Navy in 1943, where he served his country until 1946. Upon his completion of duty, he returned to Greeley and graduated from CSC. In 1948, he married Fern Warth, his life partner of 67 years, and they settled in the Hillside neighborhood to start their family, and they have lived there since. At that time, he began his career at Nelson’s Office Supply where he established a large territory of loyal customers throughout Northern Colorado, primarily designing office interiors and selling office furniture. He worked there until retiring at age 62 to further pursue his hobbies and interests.
Stan was very active in the Greeley and Weld County business and social community throughout his life. He was in Greeley Jaycees, the Greeley Lions Club and served on several Boards of Directors including the Greeley Country Club and the Humane Society of Weld County, and the Greeley Planning Commission. He has volunteered his services over the years in countless ways and was always around to lend a caring hand to a friend or neighbor in need.
Stan was a gentleman, a dedicated family man and a valued friend. His lifelong passions were golf, fly-fishing and archaeology. He was a very accomplished golfer, and in his younger years traveled frequently to compete in tournaments, many of which he won. He loved spending a day fishing just about anywhere — a bad day fishing beats a good day at work any day, he would say. He loved exploring the prairie and Pawnee Grasslands where he grew up, and he continually studied the history of our state and our heritage. He also became interested in New Mexico and its history, and traveled there frequently to expand his knowledge of the land, the people and their culture. He taught archaeology at UNC, and volunteered and supported many student groups interested in that field.
Above all, he loved his family, and treasured the time he spent with each and every one of them every day. His three grandchildren and great-granddaughter were the light of his life and they will miss him dearly.
He was preceded by the recent death of his brother, J. Herbert Beson.
Stan is survived by his beloved wife, Fern; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Randy Bangert of Eaton, Colo., and Teri and Gary Pfeifer of Morrison, Colo.; three grandchildren, Scott, Mary and Robyn Bangert; and one great-granddaughter, Hailey Bangert.
Stan will be sadly missed by so many. His family invites all of his friends and neighbors to join them for a remembrance to celebrate his life, at the Eaton Country Club, 37661 Weld County Road 39, on Sunday, Sept. 14, any time between 2-4 p.m."
