March 28, 1918. "S. J. WHITEHILL DEAD".-- Samuel J. Whitehill died very suddenly about 8 o'clock Wednesday morning at his home seven miles southeast of Farragut. He seemed in his usual health that morning and was getting out his team to feed his cattle. Mrs. Whitehill noticed that the team was standing beside the tank unattended for quite awhile and went out to investigate and found her husband lying dead beside the team. He had been subject to attacks of heart trouble and his death was the result of that disease.
Samuel Whitehill was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. He came here 45 years ago and bought the farm where his death occurred. He was 62 years old last October. In 1881 he married Miss Maude Oviatt at Shenandoah. He is survived by his wife and nine children, who are Frank, who lives near Summit; Vern of near Farragut; Carl of near Blanchard; Ralph, who is in the army and is stationed at Palo Alto, California; and Paul, Sam, Martha, Myrtle and Arlene, who are at home. He leaves two brothers, John of near Farragut and Matthew of Yorktown, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Messler of Canton, Ilinois.
In the death of Mr. Whitehill the community has lost a pioneer settler who has exerted a great influence for good. He was loved and admired by those who knew him. He joined the Methodist church at Summit 35 years ago and has been superintendent of the Sunday school there for the last 25 years.--Farragut Leader.


August 8, 1916. "Farragut News".--A wedding of beautiful appointments was solemnized at 7:30 o'clock Thursday evening, August 1, at the beautiful country home of Mrs. Maude E. Whitehill, east of town, when her daughter, Miss Martha, was given in marriage to Arthur James Dickey. Rev.J. H. Skiles of Miles, Iowa, an uncle of the groom, read the impressive ring ceremony in the presence of 30 relatives and friends.

Pink and white was the color scheme used in the beautiful decorations throughout. Preceding the ceremony, "O, Promise Me", a victrola selection, was given. Miss Lillian Dickey, a sister of the groom, played Mendelssohn's wedding march, the bridal party taking places beneath a bower of ferns with arch of smilax and summer chrysanthemums. Little Vivian Whitehill, dressed in pink, a niece of the bride, carried the ring in a pink rose. The bride looked charming in a gown of white georgette crepe with pearl bead trimmings. She wore a veil of tulle held in place with swan sonia. Following congratulations, an elaborate three course dinner was served by Misses Leona, Viola and Cecil Lawson, college friends of the bride, with Mary Tyner as caterer. The bride's table was centered with a basket of pink roses, smilax and ferns. Pink candles in crystal holders were placed at each center. The place cards were hand painted in pink and white. The nut and mint bowls were also of pink. There! were also four banquet tables similarly decorated.

The bride is the oldest daughter of Mrs. Whitehill. She is an accomplished young lady. She attended the Nebraska university at Lincoln and was a member of the Eutrophia music club.

The groom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. John Dickey. He is successful young farmer. After completing high school here, he took a two years agricultural course at Ames. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha fraternity society at Ames.

Mr. and Mrs. Dickey left that evening for a short wedding trip. She wore a midnight-blue crepe dress with a large black picture hat. They were accompanied part way by a few friends who helped them along by showers of rice and old shoes.

The out of town guests were Chas. Serup of Iowa City, a fraternity brother of the groom and Miss Genevieve Lowe of Weldon, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs.Dickey come from two of best homes and are both young people of splendid worth. Mr. Dickey expects soon to be called into the service of the United States.

Their hosts of friends extend congratulations and best wishes.

In 1900 Fremont County, Iowa, James born March 1846 in West Virginia, married 24 years to Josephine Nov 1856 Illinois, have Viola R. Dec 1879, Grace D. March 1882, Josie L. Sept 1884, Nona P. Nov 1886, Blanche Oct 1889, Earl April 1893, Alice March 1896, and Wendell Nov 1898, all kids born in IOwa,.
So it looks like Josephine never made it to Yuma County.

James 1846-1917 is buried in Page County Iowa, # 7936631.
