JOEL DAYTON POUNDS
Joel was born November 27, 1859 in Morgan County, Indiana, recorded in the West Union Monthly Meeting. (Morgan County had a big AQuaker settlement, many coming from North Carolina and Tennessee in the 1840's_
In 1900 Joel Dayton Pounds and wife Elizabeth are living at Smith Center, Kansas with their children, six daughters and six sons ranging in age from 17 years old to baby Florence, age 9 months.
June 27, 1913 "Joe Pounds is back to Smith Center again.
He had been out with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Date Pounds,
in Yuma county, Colorado, and later at Riverton, Nebraska.
He will stay here for a while, until after harvest is over anyway. —Smith Center, Kansas, Pioneer."
March 13, 1914 "Earl Pounds came home, last Friday,
from a two weeks visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Date Pounds,
near Cope, Colorado. He says the Yumaites are all feeling fine and
have prospects for bumper crops the coming season . — Smith County, Kansas, Pioneer.

In 1920 Yuma County, Joe D. is 60, Elizabeth 56 Indiana, Charles Henry 28 and Flossie Elizabeth 20 both born in Kansas.
In 1930 Joel D. 70 and Elizabeth H. 66 are still farming in Yuma County, with Charles H. 38, Kansas.
In 1940 Yuma County, Charlie is the head, 48, with "Jole" D. 80 and Elizabeth 75. Blanche Mitchell is a servant, 62.

October 25, 1924 Salem Oregon Statesman "Wilma Marie is the name given: to a baby girl born to Mr. and Mrs. Joel Leonard Pounds, 130 North Twenty-fourth."
Joel Leo Pounds, born December 1896, died March 26, 1975 in Multnomah County, spouse Flossie.
Flossie Belle Pounds born Sept 24, 1898, died in Multnomah County July 5, 1983. Her mother was Lucy Minette (Deppen) Horsman 1861-1936 buried in Kirwin Kansas 51307184.
1960 Frances Muench was living in Ephrata, Wisconsin, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pounds of Waldport, Oregon her parents visited. " The Pounds are former residents of Ritzville."
Our mother, Lois Dawson passed away November 9, 2013 at the age of 93. She was raised the daughter of a Shell Oil employee and moved often throughout the Northwest.
In 1950 she married Lloyd Dawson of Yachats, Oregon and they raised their three children up the Yachats Valley. She was active in the school board and the Yachats Grange and had an incredible garden entering vegetables and flowers in the fair for blue ribbons.
She owned the Alsea Manor in Waldport for several years doing most of the work herself. Afterwards she traveled quite extensively and loved seeing new bits of the world. She and her daughter Carol had a long running craft business called Handmade by Mom 'N Me which was her great delight. In business for 33 years, she made folded star book covers and embroidered cards as well as doing the bookkeeping. She loved doing craft shows more than anything and was her happiest while at the shows.
She is survived by her sister, Frances Muench of Wenatchee, her children; Carol
Morrison of Eugene, Dale Dawson of Yachats and Linda Morrison of Lebanon, six grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Margaret “Lois” Pounds died on Nov. 9 in Eugene, Ore. Margaret was born in Kirwin, Kansas, on Aug. 18, 1920, to Joe and Flossie Pounds.
She graduated as Salutatorian from Ritzville High School in 1938. The class celebrated their 75th diamond reunion this year and Margaret was disappointed she could not attend.
Margaret is survived by her sister Frances Muench of Wenatchee, children Carol Morrison of Eugene, Dale Dawson of Yachats, Ore., and Linda Dawson of Lebanon, Ore.
March 6, 1943 Roseburg, Oregon " Wilma Marie Pounds, beautiful daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Pounds of this city, became the bride of Sergeant James Wesley Beaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Payne, of Quenemo, Kansas, at a very impressive home wedding Thursday, February 25, at the residence of the bride's parents in Laurelwood. Dr. Charles A. Edwards performed the ring ceremony in the presence of close friends of the couple at eight-thirty in the evening.
The improvised altar was arranged for the ceremony by sprays of laurel and centered with daffodils and tall while cathedral candles in candelabra, flanked by vases fashioned from 25 millimeter French shells, which were brought hack to this country by the bride's father after the first world war."

Hilburn Dott Pounds registered for WWI in Placer County, California, and Dott married Alpha Clark, sister of the Emma Clark that married J. so that might be why J. went out there.
In 1920 Placer County, he's a grocer, with Alpha C. 39 both born in Kansas. Edith 9 in Kansas and Ethel A. 2 in California.
LEWIS
In 1910 Smith County, Lewis 24 is single, with mother Catherine 66. Catherine is married 44 years, had nine children, eight living.
In 1910 Smith County, Hanna Maud Steiner is 21, with parents Albert C. 58 and Hannah 57. Maud is a school teacher.
They're in Smith County in 1915, Lewis 28, Maud 26, Kenneth 1, and Roberta eight months.
Hanna M. Pounds, formerly Hanna M. Steiner, proved up two quarters in 4, 3S 46W and 33, 2S 46W in 1918.
Lewis Pounds registered for WWI with a Happyville address, born March 21, 1886, farming.
In 1920 Yuma County, Mildred precinct, Lewis is 33, Maud 31, both born in Kansas. Kenneth 6, Roberta 5, and Elma 4 were born in Kansas, Phyllis 1 and John one month were born in Colorado.
Lewis E. Pounds proved up a quarter in 11, 4S 48W in 1922.
In 1930 Lewis is a dairyman in Pueblo County, with Maud 41, Kenneth, Roberta, Elma, Phyllis, Mary 10, Maxine 7, Geraldine 5, Sybella 3, and Bonnie 1.
Kenneth A. Pounds married Maggie Belle Holderman November 7, 1937, recorded in Pueblo County.
In 1940 Tulsa Oklahoma, Lewis and Maude are running a cafe - with Elma, Phyllis, Mary, Maxine, Geraldine, Sybilla, and Bonnie. They were in Washington County Arkansas in 1935.
Lewis Anderson Pounds registered for WWII in Braggs, Oklahoma, with Phyllis Pounds of the same address as his reference.
Lewis A. Pounds died November 26, 1962 in Los Angeles COunty.
Ruth Maxine Albrecht, born March 30, 1923 in Colorado, to Lewis Pounds and Hanna M. Steiner, died July 6, 2002.

June 19, 1913 "Charley Pounds, who has been working for H. P. Nikkel,
left Sunday morning for his homestead in the sandhills."
Charles H. Pounds proved up two quarters in 4, 4S 48W in 1916.
Charlie signed a WWI draft registration card June 5, 1917 at Yuma, Colorado giving his date of birth as June 13, 1891. Born at Smith Center, Kansas. Description: age 26, single, medium height, medium build, grey eyes, brown hair. He was living at Cope, Colorado where he was farming. Signed: Charles Henry Pounds.
