Services for Mrs. Ruth C. Foster 85, who died Monday April 5, 1976 in an Alaskan Airlines jetline crash in Ketchikan, Alaska, are pending at Lienkaemper Chapel in Nyssa, Oregon. She was born October 14, 1890 in Longmont, Colorado. She was married to W. W. Foster, May 1, 1912 in Boulder, Colorado and came to Nyssa as a bride. She was very active in community affairs. She helped organize the local PTA, was a member of the Women’s Civic Club and a member of the Malheur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Religious activities were no small part of Mrs. Foster’s energetic life, having joined the Methodist Church at the age of ten. She was a mother of eight children and an Oregon Mother of the Year in 1958. Surviving are her husband W. W. Foster; three sons, Howard Foster of Colusa, California, Curtis Foster of Burbank, California and the Rev. Tom Foster of Madras, California, four daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Crete) Sager of Nyssa, Mrs. Harold (Margaret Eleanor) Torgerson, Fox Home, Minnesota, Frances Foster of Pakistan, and Mrs. Charles (Grace) Wilson, Juneau, Alaska; two sisters, Mrs. Morris (Helen) Bowie, of Swathamore, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Crete Dever of Boulder, Colorado; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one child, Phyllis Esther, January 1933. |
