MRS. ANTHONY DIES TODAY
FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD FRIDAY AT 2 P.M. AT MURDOCH FUNERAL HOME
Mrs. Lewis Anthony, 66, died at 7:15 o'clock this morning following an illness of 2 weeks duration.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 o'clock at the Murdoch Funeral Home with interment in the Palo alto cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, 4 sons, Herschel, Lewis (Tom), Eugene and Francis, all of Newton, and 5 daughters, Mrs. Donovan Emmack, and Mrs. A. J. Coffman both of Newton, Mrs. Clifford Woody of Reasnor, Mrs Carl Danley and Mrs. George Danley both of Des Moines. Also 23 grandchildren and 4 great grand children. She was proceeded in death by 2 sons, George and Ronald, and a daughter, Mrs. John Hithcler.
Mattie Raines, daughter of George and Sarah Raines, was born April 15, 1875 in Croton, Iowa and was married there to Lewis Anthony on October 9,1985. The couple came to Jasper Co, in 1909 and have made their home in Newton and vicinity since that time.
Mrs. Anthony was a member of the 7th Day Adventist church and was an honorary member of the Helping Hand Club at Metz.

Lewis Anthony was born on 14 Aug 1870 in Croton, Lee Co., Iowa,6 died on 11 Apr 1942 in Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa, at age 71, and was buried on 14 Apr 1942 in Palo Alto Cemetery, Jasper Co., Iowa.

Final Rites Here Tuesday Lewis Anthony, 72, retired employee of the city water department, died at Skiff memorial Hospital here at 6:12 p.m. Saturday following prolonged ill health. Mr. Anthony was in charge of the city pumping station at Metz before he retired May 1, 1941, because of ill health and moved to Newton. Following the death of Mrs. Anthony June 25, 1941, Mr. Anthony had made his home with a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. A. J. Coffman at 706 E. 7th St. He suffered from gall stones and had been a patient at the hospital since Thursday, April 8th.

Nine children survive. Mr. Anthony was born Aug 14, 1870 at Croton, Iowa, son of Robert and Mary Jane Anthony. He was married to Mattie J. Raines October 9, 1895 and the couple lived in Nebraska for awhile then moved to Jasper County in 1909. Twelve children were born to the couple and nine survive. A son, Pvt. Francis Anthony, who is receiving military training at Fort Knox, Kentucky arrived in Newton Saturday afternoon for a short furlough.

FUNERAL. Relatives surviving include the nine children, Herschel (Dewey), Lewis Elmer (Tom) and Robert Eugene, Mrs A. J. Coffman and Mrs. Donovan Emmack, all of Newton; Mrs. Carl Danley and Mrs. George Danley both of Des Moines; Mrs Clifford Woody of Reasnor, and Pvt. Anthony; a sister, Mrs. Alpha Smith of Modesto, California, and three brothers, Otto Antony of Athens, MO., James Anthony of Memphis, MO., and Lee Anthony of New Boston, Iowa. 23 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces also survive. Funeral services will be held at the Murdoch Funeral Home here Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery. ~ Newton Daily News, April 13, 1942

Lewis Elmer "Tom" Anthony, 86, of Embassy manor Care Center, a resident of Newton since 1910, died of a cardiac arrest Saturday morning, Sept. 13, at the Embassy Manor.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Paul F. Nulton, pastor of the Community Reformed Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Anthony's name may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are three sons, Elmer of Torrance, Calif., Ersel of Texas and Clinton of California; a daughter, Gail Stewart of Fairfield; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Francis Anthony of Newton; and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Acord and Mrs. Fern Coffman, both of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Neva Viola, three son, three daughters, seven brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Anthony, a member of the UAW, Local 997 retirees, had worked as a farm laborer, at the Newton Waterworks, Bishop garage and for 35 years at the Maytag Co. prior to retiring in 1965.
The son of Lewis and Mattie Raines Anthony, he was born Feb. 27k 1900 in Plattsmouth, Neb., and was educated in Jasper county school.
He was married to Neva Viola Gibson June 27, 1920 in Des Moines. ~ Newton daily News, Newton, Iowa, September 15, 1986.

He might be the Louis E. Anthony in 1900 Crawford County, Iowa, born June 1862 in Iowa, married 18 years to Cora Dec 1865 Iowa, Harry E. June 1883, Calvin F. April 1884, Earl L. Feb 1884, and Loyd June 1894, all sons born in Iowa.
In 1910 Audrain County, Missouri, a carpenter 48, married 28 years to Cora E. 44 both born in IOwa. Earl 21 and Loyd M. 16 were born in IOwa.

Carvin F. Anthony 1886-1918 is buried in Aberdeen, South Dakota, # 107665947.
Lloyd Leroy Anthony 1894-1981 died in Broward County, Florida, buried in Minneapolis, Minnesota # 32187386.
