Lewis Elmer "Tom" Anthony, 86, of Embassy manor Care Center, a resident of Newton since 1910, died of a cardiac arrest Saturday morning, Sept. 13, at the Embassy Manor. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul F. Nulton, pastor of the Community Reformed Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Anthony's name may be left at the funeral home. Survivors are three sons, Elmer of Torrance, Calif., Ersel of Texas and Clinton of California; a daughter, Gail Stewart of Fairfield; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Francis Anthony of Newton; and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Acord and Mrs. Fern Coffman, both of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Neva Viola, three son, three daughters, seven brothers and four sisters. Mr. Anthony, a member of the UAW, Local 997 retirees, had worked as a farm laborer, at the Newton Waterworks, Bishop garage and for 35 years at the Maytag Co. prior to retiring in 1965. The son of Lewis and Mattie Raines Anthony, he was born Feb. 27k 1900 in Plattsmouth, Neb., and was educated in Jasper county school.
