George W. Anderson



George cash-claimed a quarter in 3, 3N 48W in 1891, near a number of other cash claimants in 1890-1891.

He might be the George W. Anderson born Sept 1848 in Indiana, who's in Harlan County, Nebraska 1900, married 28 years to Louisa March 1853 Indiana. James A. 20, Joseph 18, Anna 15, John W. 13, Freddie 9, George W. Oct 1891, and Arlo 5, Nebraska.

One post said "May Fleeta Fair b. 1889 NE, to George W. Fair b. 1846 in PA & May Corder b. PA, she had one brother James L. Fair b. 1899 in Missouri. They lived in Spencer, Oklahoma before 1909, her mother was dead accorinding to her letters. She sent to my ggg Uncle Oscar Ray Anderson that lived in Spencer, Oklahoma, written from 1909 to 1914. In Jan 1915 she married George W. Anderson, age 66, born in Indiana to Wm. Anderson and Polly Ann Chandler. May was 26 when she married him. "

Louise A. (Handy) Anderson 1853-1910 is buried in Gosper County. "Daughter of Nathaniel and Nancy Hardy. Married George Washington Anderson on 27 Jun 1871 in Brown Co., IN."

In 1910 Gosper County, George is 61, widowed, living with son Alonzo 32 and his wife Laura 28 and four kids. Arla 15 is living with them, too.

In 1920 Furnas County, Nebraska, Goerge is 72, married to May 29 born in Nebraska. They have Elijah 4, Elisha 2, Gilbert 1,a nd newborn Ruth.

(Gilbert Raymond Anderson was born March 23, 1918 at Arapahoe, Nebraska to George W.l Anderson and May F. Fare, and died Oct 11, 2006. He's buried in DFW # 16265986.
George Washington Anderson born Sept 5, 1848 in Indiana, father William Anderson, died in Fort Worth Texas, April 15, 1930, a widower.
His body was to be removed to Nebraska. He's buried in Gosper County, Nebraska # 14125458.

Elijah Holly Anderson was born Oct 30, 1915 in Nebraska to George Anderson and Mae Fair
He died Feb 14, 1965 in Lewisville, Texas, to be buried in Waxahachie, Texas. Informant was brother George R. Anderson. # 20327717.

In 1910 Gosper County, Nebraska, Millie L. is 15, with Henry H. 54 Hansen, Lena M. 48, with William E. 21, Otto H. 13 and Maggie M. 8. Lena's father Charley Lentz 48 (should be 78) is with them.
In 1918 George W. Anderson, Jr. of Cope filed for the east half of 33, 3S 49W (Washington County, Colorado) witnesses Leland E. Jacobs, Roy I. Schaffer, Robert Rearter, and Clifford E. Barnhart.

George was the secretary of the Cope Colorado school district # 63 in 1928.

April 1937 - Hughes items in the Yuma Pioneer "Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson of Cope visited Tuesday evening of last week at the A.M. Donald ranch."

" Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, January 13, from the United Methodist Church in Wray for George W. Anderson, who passed away Saturday January 10 in the Wray Community District Hospital at the age of 78 years and three months. Mr. Anderson was born at Norman, Nebraska, October 10, 1891 to George Washington and Louisa Anderson. He was one of twelve children born to this union and also had five younger half-brothers and sisters. George W. and Millie Hansen were united in marriage May 10, 1913 and had four children. Mrs. Anderson passed away July 3, 1929. Mr. Anderson married Mary Queen January 27, 1932 and to this union two children were born. She died May 9, 1954. Jennie Maddox of Benkelman, Nebraska, and George Anderson were united in marriage September 12, 1956. Mr. Anderson homesteaded at Cope in August 1913 and resided there until 1950 when he purchased a motel in east Wray. He retired in March of 1961 and moved to Elm street. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wray. Preceding him in death were eight brothers, three sisters, one half-brother, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. Survivors include his wife. Jennie; his children, Olive Richter of Snohomish, Washington; Clarence Anderson of El Cajon, California; Florence Yost of Imperial, Nebraska; Arlena Stromquist of San Jose, California: Robert Anderson of Great Bend, Kansas; Georgia Jean Andrews of Thornton; three step children CShirley Hollars of McCook, Nebraska; Ralph Maddox of White City, Kansas; Carole Ann Wurtz of Pueblo; two half-sisters, Helen Sickler of Arvada and Ruth Kelly of Hurst, Texas; two half-brothers, Elisha Anderson of Grand Prairie, Texas; and Gilbert Anderson, also of Texas; 24 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Rev. Paul Holland conducted the services and interment was at the Cope Colorado Cemetery.




Florence May 'Brownie' Yost of Imperial died at her home at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home Oct. 7, 2007. She was 86 years old.

Florence was born on May 17, 1921, at Cope, Colo., to George and Millie (Hansen) Anderson. She graduated from Cope High School in 1937.

On Feb. 14, 1941, Florence married Arba Norton Yost in Goodland, Kan. To this union five daughters were born. They made their home in various locations before settling in Imperial. Florence was a homemaker as well as a cook for the school cafeteria. She and Arba also owned a Tropical Fish Store in the basement of their home and had a lawn mowing service that they ran together for many years

Florence was a member of the Berean Fundamental Church and was baptized on July 30, 1972, in the Frenchman River. Florence was also a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. One of the most important things to do in her life was reading the Bible every day. She also enjoyed embroidering, camping, walking, working in her flower garden and attending church. Helping with the AWANAS group for many years was another one of her important activities, as was spending time with her family and friends. Florence's dedication to the Lord and her church was an inspiration to many and nothing gave her greater joy than witnessing and leading people to the Lord.

Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Millie Anderson; an infant daughter, Lois; daughter Millie Goodenberger; great granddaughter Porche Holliday and sister Olive Richter.

Survivors include three daughters: Mary and husband Charles Skinner of Ogallala, Neb., Connie Miller and Tammi and husband, Dave Parker of Imperial; two brothers: Clarence Anderson and wife Shirley of Wasilla, Alaska, and Robert Anderson and wife Dorothy of Denver, Colo.; two sisters: Arlena and husband Axel Stromquist of San Jose, Calif., and Georgia Jean and husband LeRoy Andrews of Fort Lupton, Colo; 12 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Memorials may be given in Florence's name to the Berean Fundamental Church in Imperial. Funeral services were held Friday morning, Oct. 12, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at the Berean Fundamental Church, Imperial, with Pastor John Engbrecht and Rev. Giles Armstrong officiating. Interment followed at Mt.Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

Longtime resident of Wasilla, Alaska, Clarence Otto “Andy” Anderson passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in his home while his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Anderson, held his hand.

Andy was laid to rest at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage, Alaska on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 with full military honors. Pastor Stan Tucker officiated.

Andy was born on a farm February 20, 1918 in Cope, Colorado to G.W. and Millie Anderson. Andy was a hard worker. He joined the United States Navy on October 18, 1943 during WWII. He went on to serve his country throughout the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts until he retired as a Chief on November 27, 1967. Afterwards, he continued to work at NAS North Islands in San Diego, California for 12 years as a Civil Servant until he retired in 1980. Andy and Shirley moved to Alaska in 1986 in order to be closer to their son Paul.

Andy was a beloved father who enjoyed taking his two sons fishing and golfing; one of his proudest accomplishments was a hole in one while golfing in San Diego.

Having lived a good, long life, Andy was able to influence many people with his humor and love of God, his family and his country.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons, David and his wife, Sue; Paul and his wife, Mary; and grandchildren, Tiffany; Caroline and Lliam.
