LAMPHERE was born in Will County, Illinois, July 24, 1852, and is the elder of two children of Joshua and Mary (Pepper) Lamphere, of New York, Joshua Lamphere came with his family, in 1850, to Will County, Illinois, where he owned a farm until his death in 1854. His wife has been twice married since, and is now a widow, living in Iroquois Township, Newton County, Indiana. Fayette, who was only two years old when his father died, continued to live with his mother, attending school some until nine years of age, when he went to work by the month on a farm, until 1875. He then rented and worked a farm, for two years, when, July 27, 1877, he married Mrs. Ardilla Shriver, a native of Edgar County, Illinois and daughter of Isaac and Anna (Smith) Van Hauten. Mrs. Lamphere has four children- -Mrs. Sarah Collins, Mrs. Alice Archibald, Mrs. Emma Enfield and Miss Anna Shriver. They have a farm of seventy-one acres, and also work fifty acres belonging to the other heirs of E. T. Shriver. In politics, Mr. Lamphere is a Republican. "

In August 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Fay Lamphere entertained a crowd of young people, including Misses E. and A. Branch.

Owing to the crowded condition of the State insane asylum, Sheriff Lamphere was unable to secure the admission of Bert Wimmer to that institution and so Bert will have to remain at Woodcroft hospital for some time yet. We believe that the county commissioners should sue the state for the expenses incurred by the county in the care of their insane. The state is fussing around and trying to get the counties to put up the interest collected on state funds and at the same time, are criminally negligent in providing for the insane, and compel the counties to care for their own insane. It is a mighty poor rule that will not work both ways.

In 1919 Milo D. Eatinger and Vernon W. Eatinger were witnesses for the claim of 40 acres by of Fayette Lamphere in section 6, 1N 43W. This was just a mile north of the center of Wray. It's probably the young Fay...

In 1922 Mr. and Mrs. Faye Lamphere were custodians of the Yuma County courthouse.

"Fayette P. Lamphere was born in Joliet, Illinois July 24, 1852 and passed away June 27, 1924 at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 3 days. He was married to Mrs. Jane Lewis at Chicago, Illinois in the year of 1885. They made their home at Joliet until 1893, when they moved to Yuma, Colorado where they lived until 1903 when they moved to Wray where they have since resided.
Mr. Lamphere was a very active servant of Yuma County since the year of 1900 having served as sheriff two terms, justice of the peace 17 years and courthouse janitor 13 years. He was always ready to render substantial help to all who were in need, and to the many high school students who stayed with them during the winter. He was a very pleasant man and much liked by the people.
His health had been failing for about five years. On the evening of June 27th, while seated in his old accustomed place out by the courthouse steps, enjoying a quiet talk with his life companion, he leaned over as though he wished to tell her something and without a word or pain expired.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon and burial took place in Grandview Cemetery. "
