ALICE MARY GATES

In 1870 Hancock County, Illinois, Abraham Gates is farming, 25, born in Ohio, with Sophronia 27 Illinois. Cora is 9, Lawana 7, MARY 5, Ida 3, and William ten months, all born in Illinois.

In 1880 Jewell County, Kansas, Abram is 45, born in Ohio, Sophronia 35, Cora Bell 18, Alonzo 17, MARY A. 15, Emma L. 12, and Wm. Henry 10, all born in Illinois.

Abram Gates, dying June 5, 1892 age 57 years, six months eight days, is buried in Webber, Jewell County, per # 25202360.

Sophia Gates is in Jewell County in 1910, 68, widowed, living with son William 40 and Rena 34. Pansy is 15.

She's with William in 1920 Jewell County, too.

October 1909 "Frank Gates, of Orleans, Nebraska, was in Wray this week looking after the J. B. Corwin ranch of which he is now the owner. Mr. Gates is a member of a real estate firm located at Orleans."

February 1912 "Frank Gates, the new homesteader in our vicinity, has an advertisement in the Haigler News for auctioneering.
George Gates and family have moved onto their homestead north of Pearl J. Rose's."

March 7, 1912 Laird items in the Wray Rattler
"F. Gates is moving into his new house this week.
Frank Gates had Latoski Bros. fit his pipe and pump for his well Friday."

April 1914 "Geo. Gates from over on Squaw canon near the Arickaree was in town last Tuesday with his son, Frank, for a trading trip. Mr. Gates has been laid up for some time with blood poisoning, but will now take hold of his farm work."

BERG

In 1870 Wayne County, Illinois, Samuel Berg is 28, Margrett J. 24, Martha E. 4, William M. 2, and Floyd one month.

In 1895 Rawlins County, Kansas, F.G. Burg is 24, Alice 25, both born in Illinois and coming to Kansas from Nebraska. "Golden" is 6, born in Kansas.

In 1900 Atwood, Kansas, Floyd Burg was born July 1870 in Illinois, Alice born March 1865 in Illinois, married ten years. Goldie born in Kansas in May 1886.

November 5, 1915 Leavenworth "The following members of the insane ward were transferred yesterday to the General Hospital of In sane at Washington, D. C, leaving in a special car with six attendants and Major Barker: Samuel R. Berg, D, Fortieth Illinois Infantry:"
Although Leavenworth has a record of his burial there, he's buried in Arlington National dying Dec 9, 1915 # 49121087.

March 13, 1955, Salina Kansas
"The funeral for Mrs. Maude May Black, 68, was at the Methodist Church, the Rev. H. P. Woertendyke officiating. Burial was at Norcatur cemetery. Mrs. Black was born at Mankato June 1, 1886, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Berg. The family moved to Norton County near Reager when she was a girl. She married Jessie R. Black at Norton in 1904. Survivors include these sons and daughters: Mrs. Viola Lenihan and Lyle, Boulder, Colo.; Nellie and Roland, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Cuma Cameron, Memphis, Tenn.; D L. Ely, Nev., and Delbert, Seattle Wash., and one sister, Mrs. Math Lake, Norcatur."

Floyd is in Conejos County, Colorado in 1910, married twenty years but no spouse, driving a sand wagon. Living with him are Earnest Dittmar 38 Illinois, and Ella 33 Ohio and their three kids.

October 1911 Steamboat Springs, Colorado "Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Berg have gone to Atwood, Kansas, for the winter. Upon their return they will resume the restaurant business."

October 1913 Wray "Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Harding arrived Monday morning from St. Louis and is spending this week with Mrs. Harding's sister, Mrs. F. G. Berg, and family of several miles north of town. Mr. and Mrs. Harding reside in Mounds, Illinois, and will stop off in Chicago for a visit before returning to their home."
(This would be James W. Harding, who married Cora B. Gates on October 22, 1882 in McDonough County, Illinois. Cora was born December 21, 1860 at Seiota, Illinois to Abe Gates. Cora died June 1, 1933 in Mounds, Illinois, and isburied at Thistlewood cemetery.

May 1914 "Floyd Burg is going around with his head tied up having undergone an operation for a gathering over his eye."

February 1, 1917 " Mrs. Floyd Burg, of twelve miles northwest of Wray, left Thursday evening for Superior, Nebraska, where she went on a visit with her mother."

February 1917 "Mrs. Floyd Berg returned this morning from a visit of three weeks in Clay Center and several other points in Kansas with relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Berg reside fifteen miles northwest of Wray."




June 1917


August 1918 "C. E. Cunningham and family and F. G. Burg and family, north of town left Monday by auto for a season in the mountains."

Floyd was a witness in 1918 for the claim of Edna Johnson in 3N 45W.

In 1920 Yuma County, Floyd Berg is farming, 49, with Alice 54, both born in Illinois.

Floyd G. Berg 59 and Alice M. Berg 64 are in Boulder County in 1930.

Floyd Berg 1870-1932 is buried in Wray # 16995097.

GOLDIE

In 1910 Colorado Springs, Pete A. Headman is 22, born in Nebraska, married one year to Goldie A. 23 Kansas. Alice M. Berg 44, married twice, has had only one child.

Goldie A. Hedman and Peter A. Hedman divorced in Yuma County on May 23, 1914.

Goldie proved up 320 acres in sections 19, 29, and 30, 3 North 44 West, in 1916, and another eighty acres for Stock in 1920 in Section 19.

She's next to Riley S. Berg, proving up 320 acres in sections 29 and 30, and another eighty acres by Stock in 1920.

In 1917 Miss Goldie Hedman was teaching in District # 45, Yuma County.

In 1923 "Mrs. Goldie Hedman" was teaching in District # 18, Wray.

September 1917 # 81267708 "An infant babe of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Berg, who reside north of Wray, was buried in Grand View Monday afternoon. "
April 1918

Mary Etta Drommond was born April 26, 1872. She married Charles A. Bullard June 8, 1898. To this union were born five children, two dying in infancy. Those living are Grace and Roscoe of Wray and Mrs Nettie Mae Benson of Golden, Co.

Mrs. Bullard who had lived a large part of life in Wray and vicinity was one of God's noble women-mother,wife and frind unequalled by but a few. Her home life and social life was just of that character that establishes bulwachs for good, and leaves a lasting impression on the walks of life.

She met her tragic death in Englewood last Saturday night when she was instantly killed by a truck. Mr. Bullard was with her at the time and sustained injuries as well.

Beside her husband and three children she leaves two brothers in Wray, Earl and Roy Drommond, a sister Mrs. Walter Kearns of Laird, a siter Mrs. W.K.Fisk of Arvada and four other brothers-James of Denver, George and Alva of Laird and John of Pueblo.

Goldie A. Hedman and Charles A. Bullard married in Denver on Sept 3, 1927.

Goldie and Charles Bullard are in Denver in 1930 - Goldie 42 born in Kansas, both parents born in Illinois.

In 1940 Denver, Goldie A. Bullard is in Denver, 53, with Charles A. Bullard 63 born in Iowa, with mother Alice Berg, 75, widowed, born in Illinois.
1941 "Charles Bullard, of Denver, and Mrs. Oscar Benson and daughters, of Golden, spent the last week end with relatives in Yuma and at Wray. (this is Nettie Mae Bullard, daughter of Charles and Mary Etta (Drommond) Bullard. Charles is buried in Wray 1876-1941 # 50359004. )

In 1945 Denver, Goldie is an auxiliary worker at St. Anthony Hospital, and is living at 1429 17th Street.

The East Yuma history says Goldie moved to Clay Center Kansas about 1945.

RILEY

In 1900 Phillips County, Kansas, Riley is 16, born in Nebraska, father Samuel August 1840 in Ohio, and sister Mary O. Oct 1875 Illinois. Wm. Berg 32 born in Illinois is farming alnne next to them.

Riley is living with father Samuel, 69 in 1910 Phillipsburg, Kansas. He's 24, an auto mechanic.


February 1912 "R. S. Berg of McCook, who filed on a homestead southwest of here some time ago, is building a shack on his claim." (SHOULD BE NORTHWEST)

Samuel R. Berg, dying Dec 9, 1915, is buried in Leavenworth National.

Riley Sherman Berg registered for WWI in Yuma County, born Nov 22, 1883, farming. His reference was Mrs. Mariah Berg of Norcatur, Kansas.

Riley is farming alone in 1920 Yuma County, 36, born in Nebraska.

In 1930 he's a tractor mechanic in Yuma County, with the neighbors indicating he's living north of Wray.
Riley is a tractor mechanic in Jefferson County, Colorado in 1940 - in Yuma County in 1935 -

Riley registered for WWII in Beecher Island, born Nov 22, 1885 at Beatrice, Nebraska, working for Bill Goss of Beecher Island.
Riley 1883-1949 is buried in Wray # 16995121.
