Levi Heberlee, 79, a resident from 1930-41, describing the site

"Once (Superintendent) Mr. (Kenneth P.) Jones tried to get the kids an allowance so they could buy ice cream. So he went up to the Capitol and addressed the legislature. Some of the lawmakers said, 'When I was a kid, I didn't have an allowance. What's so special about your kids?' And he said, 'Well, if you don't provide these kids the money, they're going to steal it from you.' And then he shut his notebook. Later that day, he got a phone call and they said, 'Well, you've got your funding.' "

I am looking for a burial location for my grandmother. Her given name was Katherine E Heberlee b. about 1922 in Racine, WI. Her parents were Marion Heberlee and Sarah Elma Long Heberlee. During the depression, half of her siblings were put into an orphanage. i know she has a living brother still named Levi, and maybe a sister named June. I had only seen her a few times, as she closed herself off from the family. I am not sure of her death date. Her son Richard Heberlee is my father, and his brother david, whose last name and info is unknown to me is the one that contacted my dad to let him know that she had passed away. I was told that she had changed her full name several times in her lifetime, so i have no leads as to what her name was when she died. only that she is buried in the Denver, Co area or close by. I don't know where to go from this point. If you have any information i would be forever greatful!   posted March 2010 by Jess Gallardo
