In 1880 Cadiz, Green County, Wisconsin, Charles C. Crago is a sawmiller, 24, born in Wisconsin,
with wife Rhoda 23 in Pennsylvania.
On 25 Jan 1883, married Loretta B. McDaniel, daughter of Absolom McDaniel and Elizabeth Wright in Green Co. WI.
LORETTA'S BROTHER "ALBERT McDANIEL, son of Absalom and Elizabeth McDaniel passed away at his home in McConnell Feb. 7, 1913, after an illness of a year or more. The deceased was born Nov. 11, 1848, in Oneco township, where he grew to manhood. On Jan. 22, 1879, he was married to Miss Amelia Killan at Cadiz, Wis. He leaves to mourn his loss his faithful wife, one daughter, Mrs. Elmer Kyler, and two grandchildren, Neva and Harold Kyler, one brother, John McDaniel, three sister, Mrs. Will Lathrop, of Guthrie, Iowa, Mrs. Charles Crago of Cadiz, Wis., and Mrs. James Van Matre of Martintown, Wis., besides a host of relatives and friends. Mr. McDaniel taught school 42 years and the last two years he conducted a harness shop. He was honest and conscientious in all his dealings and enjoyed the confidence an respect of all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and loving father and a loyal neighbor. The funeral services were held at 12 o'clock from the house and at 2 o'clock at Mt. Pleasant schoolhouse and interment was at that place. Rev. L. M. Coe conducted the services, W. J. Wachlin had charge of the funeral arrangements. The pallbearers were Charles Stabenow, August Retzlaff, Joe Solace, Joe Shippy, John Solace and George Bechtold. The M. W. A. had charge. There were many beautiful floral offerings"
In 1900 Green County, Charles, born Dec 1852 in Wisconsin, married 17 years to Etta Dec 1861 Illinois, have May March 1884, Roy July 1886, Emma March 1888, and Maria E. Oct 1891, all four born in Wisconsin.
In 1910 Green County, Charles and Loretta have Roy, 28.
January 25, 1912 "Miss Jennie Crago, who lives at Mildred was doing some shopping in Wray Tuesday."
December 12, 1912 "Word was received here the first of this week of
the marriage of David C. Bell of Happyville to Miss Emma
Crago of Cadiz township, Wisconsin, which occurred at
Monroe, Wisconsin, last week. The ceremony was performed by
Justice W. T. Sauerman home. The newly-weds will go to
housekeeping on Mr. Bell's farm near Happyvllle
as soon as they arrive home. The Rattler extends
congratulations."
December 19, 1912
August 1, 1913 "Notice is hereby given that Emma Viola
Bell, formerly Emma Viola Crago, of Happyville, Colorado,
who, on January 25, 1910, made homestead entry
for west half, northwest quarter, section 29; east half,
northeast quarter, section 30, township 2 south, range
46 west, sixth principal meridian, has
filed notice of intention to make final three year
proof, to establish claim to the land above described,
before County Judge, at Wray, Colorado, on the llth
day of August, 1913.
Claimant names as witnesses : David C. Bell,
Claude J. Dunn, Edward McCole, Hugh J . McCauley, all
of Happyville, Colorado."
November 1914 "Mr. and Mrs Charles Crago returned from
their visit through Kansas the fore part of last week."
Charles cash-claimed a quarter in 34, 2S 46W in 1916.
Jake Koss proved up two quarters in 9, 3S 46W, in 1915, with witnesses David C.
Bell, Charles C. Crago, Hugh J. McCauley, and Edward McCole, all of Happyville.
In 1920 Cadiz, Charley is 67, Loretta 58, no occupation.
Charles died in Rock Run Township, Stephenson County, Illinois on November 28, 1922
His heirs were Loretta B. Crago, his widow, daughter Emma Bell, daughter Marie E. Whitehead daughter, Mae Lawver daughter, and son Charles LeRoy Crago.
He's buried in Green County # 79668773.
Loretta 1861-1923 is also buried there # 117425778.
ROSE MAE
In 1910 Yuma, Sterman Lawver is 29, with May 26, both born in Wisconsin, Ettie 7, Alonzo 5, Roland 3, born in Illinois, and Kenneth nine months born in Wisconsin. Emma Crago 22 is living with them., farming.
Rose M. Crago and Henry S. Lawver had Virgil Earl Lawver
on May 19, 1918 in Stephenson County, Illinois. Virgil died March 11,
2000.
1957 "Mr. and Mrs. Sterman H. Lawver, 609 W. Pleasant, Freeport, will hold an open house from 2 to 5 p. m.
Sunday, in honor of their 55th wedding anniversay. The event will be held in the home of their son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Hrs. Virgil Lawler, 1350 West mgan, Freeport. Mrs. Lawyer is the former Mae Crago,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crago, and was born in Martintown. Her husband is the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. George Lawler. The couple lived in the Browntown area, following their marriage March 12, 1900.
Then they homesteaded in Colorado, before farming in Illinois and retiring to Freeport. They have four sons Alvin and Virgil,
both of Freeport; Rowland, Westwood, N. J., and Kenneth, Fairfield, O.;
three daughters, Mrs. Ransom (Etta) Keister, Delavan; Mrs. Karl (Lolita) Blodgett, Park Falls, Wis.,
and Mrs. Wayne (Kathleen) Roney, Billings, Mont.; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. One son,
Lawrence, a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, died in 1942. Mrs. Lawyer is a sister of Roy Crago, Browntown. Mr. Lawyer is a brother of the late George (Judd) Lawyer of Monroe."
EMMA
In 1920 Red Cloud, Nebraska, David C. Bell is 49 born in Iowa, with Emma 34. Nephew Kenneth Lawver 9, is with them, born in Wisconsin.
In 1930 Red Cloud, David 60 and Emma 42 have Elizabeth M. and Bonnie L., both 10.
In 1940 Red Cloud, Dave is 68, Emma 52, Betty 20, and Bonnie 20.
David C. Bell 1870-1944 is buried in Red Cloud # 144891118.
July 23, 1956 "Mrs. Emma Johnson, a native of Green County, Wis., died in her home in Portland, Ore., Saturday. She was a sister to Mrs. S. H. Lawver, Freeport, and had often visited here. The former Emma Crago was born in Green County, Wis., in 1888, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crago. • Two daughters survive, Mrs. Betty Palmer, Clay Center, Neb. and Mrs. Bonnie Batdorf, Fairborn, Ohio. A sister and a brother also survive, Mrs. S. H. Lawver, Freeport and Roy, Browntown, Wis. Service will be, in Red Cloud, Neb., Friday with interment there. "
July 24, 1956 "Mrs. Stephen Johnson, 68. the former Emma Crago of Cadiz Township, died Saturday at Portland. Ore.,
according to telephone word received here by her brother, Roy Crago. Services for Mrs. Johnson were held this afternoon in Portland.
Further rites will be held Friday afternoon in Red Cloud. Neb. Mr. and Mrs. Crago. accompanied by his niece and cousin,
Mrs. Ransom Keister, Delavan, and Miss Etta Van Metre, Freeport, will leave tomorrow for Red Cloud.
Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crago. She was born in 1888.
In 1907 she left the vicinity to make her home with her sister, Mrs. Sterman Lawyer, now of Freeport.
She had lived in Colorado and Nebraska before going to Portland. Ore., where she had lived seven years.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Mae Lawyer, Freeport, and the brother, Roy;
two adopted daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Bonnie) Battdorf. in Ohio, and Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Palmer, Nebraska, and three granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Lee (Marie) Whitehead of Cadiz and her first husband, D. C. Bell, buried at Red Cloud. "
Betty Palmer 1920-2000 is buried in Chandler, Arizona # 138337394, with Kenneth Allen Palmer 1921-1999.

1945 Monroe, Wisconsin "Mrs. Emma Dale and Mrs. C. L. Crago were in Madison."
January 1946 "Emma Belle is visiting at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs. C. L. Crago.
She returned from her home in Red Cloud, Neb. "
Charles LeRoy "Roy" Crago 1886-1963 is buried in Green County
# 24915544, with Mary Jane (Ault) Crago 1890-1969.
