Tryphasa W. (Wells) Purcell   Wray



Tryphosa Wells is in Van Wert, Ohio in 1870, born in Indiana, with Hugh Wells 57, a Lutheran minister, and Caroline B 49. Hugh is 13, Tryphena Wells and Tryphosa both 11, Jessie 6.

She had married Joel T. Layton 1849-1879 buried in Wabash County, Indiana # 45328798.
They had Hugh Arthur Layton 1876-1877, and Jessie Layton 1879-1907

Miss Layton was born in North Manchester, on the first day of June, 1879. She was the granddaughter of the Rev. Hugh Wells, of sacred memory. Rev. Wells was the organizer of the Northern Indiana and Olive Branch Synods, and at one time actively associated in the operations of the General Synod. Miss Layton's father died when she was but a few months' old, and she was taken into the Wells home, where she remained until the death of her grandparents.
Upon this breaking up of the old home, she came into the household of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. B. Frame, where she was cared for as tenderly as a daughter. The departed was a member of Zion Lutheran church, and the funeral service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Lloyd C. Douglas.

In 1900 Parsons, Labette County, Kansas, James J. Purcell is a minister, born March 1854 in Ireland, married 17 years to Tryphosa May 1859 Indiana, Laura Sept 1884 in Indiana, Hugh W. April 1887 Indiana, Ruth Feb 1892 Missouri, and Mary July 1894 Indiana.

In 1905 Emporia, Kansas, T. Purcell is 45, with Laura M. 20, Hugh W. 17, Ruth 13, and Mary 10.

In 1910 Brush, Colorado, Tryphasa is a music teacher, 57, widowed, born in Ohio, with Laura 22 an instructor in the high school born in Indiana, and Ruth 18 in Missouri.

Mrs. Purcell, who with her daughters Laura and Ruth -Wray teachers - rented the R.M. Crenshaw residence in West Wray in 1912.


June 1912 Brush Colorado "Miss Laura Purcell, who is spending her vacation in San Antonio, Texas, is enjoying herself and is much pleased with the country and the real southern hospitality of the people. She recently attended a reception given the artists of the city and being accorded a place in the reception line widened her acquaintance among some of the best people in the southern city."

July 1913 "Mr. Hugh W. Purcell, a business man, came down from Denver to spend Sunday with his mother and sisters here."

September 1913 .

"Miss Laura Purcell has resigned her position on the faculty of the county high school and we understand that she and her mother are to move to Denver shortly. A question as to salary and work caused the resignation. Her place is to be filled by the county high school committee at once. - Wray Gazette."


August 1915 " Miss Laura Purcell and her mother were guests of Mrs. E. M. Robinson yesterday. Miss Purcell was formerly a member of the faculty of the Yuma County high School. She and her mother will teach in the Fort Morgan schools the coming year."


In 1920 Fort Collins, Trypho is 60, no occupation, with Laura 34 an arts instructor.

June 1920 Fort Collins "Miss Laura Purcell left Wednesday afternoon for Denver to visit for two weeks with her brother, H. W. Purcell."

In 1930 Fort Collins, "Tryphose" is 70, Laura 44 still an arts instructor.

In 1940 Fort Collins, Tryphose is 82, Laura 40 (the census must have misheard the age)




Tryphosa is buried in Berthoud, Colorado # 33492617.

Hugh Arthur Layton 1875-1877 is buried in Wabash County, INdiana # 45458962>

HUGH PURCELL

Hugh W. Purcell and Beatrice Trunk married in Denver on Nov 12, 1913.

In 1920 Denver, Hugh is a druggist, 33, Beatrice 42 born in Kansas. Katharine Trunk is 18, born in Colorado. Hugh Jr. is 4, Tryphena and Tryphosa both sixteen months. Linden R. Hubbard is 45, divorced, born in Kansas, a brother-in-law.
(Beatrice Trunk was in Denver in 1910, 33, married to Edward F. Trunk 46, a druggist - his second marriage. Fletcher is his son, 19, born in Indiana. Katharina 9 and Josephine 3 were born in Colorado.

Edward Frederick Trunk 1862-1913 is buried in Denver.


Katherine Trunk, 20, married Leon T. Fuller in Pueblo Colorado on March 30, 1921.)

Josephine Trunk 1906-1930 is buried in Denver # 33130111 - she was in the state home foin 1930.

In 1930 Denver, Hugh is a druggist, 43, with Beatrice 54 born in Kansas. Hugh W. Jr. 13, T. Ruth 11 and T. Laura 11 were all born in Colorado.

Hugh and Beatrice have just the two daughters in 1940 Denver.

Beatrice (Hubbard) Purcell 1874-1967 is buried in Denver # 33130878.

Tryphosa Ruth Purcell Tabb, born July 7, 1918 in Denver, died May 24, 2001, name as Tabb in 1942.

Tryphena Laura Purcell and Lee Oren Treece, Jr. married in Vernal, Uintah County, Utah on Oct 13, 1940
Laura, per one tree, died June 18, 1989 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Lee died in Mesa, Arizona March 12, 1999 per one tree.
One son, Mrk Lyndon Treece, born May 15, 1948 in Williams, Arizona, died in Washington, D.C. Dec 7, 1984.

In October 1942, Jefferson County, Colorado issued a marrieage license to Hugh Purcell of San Pedro, California and Fonnie D. Kastle of 604 W. Evans St., Denver.

LAURA

Laura 1884-1972 is buried in Berthoud # 33492141.

"Laura Margaret Purcell, 87, of 415 South Howes Street, died. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Warren Funeral Chapel, presided by the Rev. Larry Donoghue. Burial will be in Berthoud Cemetery. Miss Purcell was born Sept. 22, 1884, in Logansport, Ind. She taught school in Fort Collins for 33 years beginning in 1915. She retired and moved to Berthoud in 1950. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, St. Mary's Guild, St. Luke's A.S. of P.E.O., Pi Gamma Mu Honorary Society and Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers' Society.
Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Ruth Bunyan of Sanitarium, California. "


RUTH

Ruth Purcell and William C. Bunyan married in Larimer County on July 12, 1916.

In 1920 Berthoud, Colorado, William is a bank cashier, 42, Ruth P. 27.
They're in Berthoud in 1930 and 1940, no kids.

William Chalmers Bunyan 1877-1953 died in Napa County, California June 29, 1953, born Oct 14, 1877 in New York, mother Halliwell . He's buried in Berthoud # 33492585, with Ruth 1893-1980 # 33492468.
