July 20, 1906 "Dr. Barr received a telegram last night from Long Beach, Cal., stating that L. R. Parker had died at that place. Mr. Parker had just left here for Californiabout three weeks ago,
hoping the change would benefit his health and the news of his death will come as a shock to his many friends."
"Louis R. Parker was born in Wayne county, Kentucky, April 20, l838.
Was converted at the age of l6 years and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church South at Somerset, Kentucky.
He removed to Illinois while quite a young man and was licensed to exhort there at the age of 21 years. He removed to Missouri, where in his 38th year he was licensed to preach and served as pastor in the Savannah and Babylon charges. At the age of 48 or in 1886 he removed with his family to Colorado where he has resided ever since.
He worked at his trade as a carpenter and also farmed and was a factor in the early settlement of this part of Colorado. He organized the Sunday School at Glendale and was connected with planting Methodism there.
All his work in the West was done in the M. E. church, there being no South church here. He had spent a large portion of the past two years in Kentucky trying to regain his health,
and a few weeks ago with his son, Samuel, and wife, and daughter, Crittendon, he went to California, where he died July 19, 1906.
The remains arrived in Wray on No. 14 Wednesday evening, and were conveyed to the residence by Amos Carl, who had charge of the funeral arrangements.
Thursday morning at 10 o'clock services were held in the Methodist church by Rev. Carson, who delivered a very impressive sermon, after which the body was taken to Grandview for intrment.
The Rattler joins the many friends of the bereaved family in extending sympathy in this sad hour."

September 1911 "F.W. Jones and family and Mrs. L. R. Parker and daughter, Miss Crittie, left on Wednesday of this week for Southern California
where they will spend the winter. Their destination is El Centro, in the Imperial Valley, where the Parker boys, Sam and John, are located."
October 31, 1912 "Mrs. L. R. Parker died at her home in Wray last Monday morning from the effects of a paralytic stroke.
She was stricken about six weeks ago and her relatives nnd friends had little hopes of her recovery.
She grew gradually weaker and weaker until her vitality was exhausted, and then quietly passed away.
The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church Tuesday afternoon, and were conducted by tho pastor, F. W. Imboden, assisted by Rev. C. L. Harrington of Vernon. The pastor used as his text 2 Timothy 4-6 to 8 and spoke briefly of a victorious Christian life.
The congregation joined with the choir in singing some of the old church hymns; Faith of Our Fathers, How Firm a Foundation, and Sweet By and By.
As a special selection, Mrs. E. M. Hedrick and Mrs. T. B. Groves sang Saved By Grace. A
After the services the funeral procession made its way to the Grand View Cemetery, where the
body was laid to rest.
Sallie B. Wade was born in Adams County Illinois, April 6, 1834. At the age of about sixteen years she was bereft of her parents and then went to Kentucky and made her home with an uncle. In her Kentucky home, on April 22, 1857, she was married to L. R. Parker who preceded her to the better land in July, 1905.
To this union were born 9 children, five of whom are living, as follows: Samuel and John L. Parker of California, Mrs. Mary Jones, Miss Crittie Parker and Alvin Parker of this community.
After her marriage to Mr. Parker the family lived for a few years in Adams county, Illinois, then moved to Kentucky and Missouri. In 1886 the family came to Yuma county, Colo., and settled in Wray and the neighboring vicinity.
Since the death of her husband she, with her daughter, Crittie, have been living in the home place in Wray.
Mother Parker has been in poor health for several years past, and about seven weeks ago was stricken with paralysis
with paralysis from which she did not rally but failed slowly in health until Monday morning at seven o'clock when she peacefully and quietly passed to her eternal rest, at the age of 78 years, 6 mo., 22 days. All of the children, with the exception of John, have been attending faithfully the bedside of their mother and giving unto her their loving ministries during her last days. a
Mother Parker was converted in her girlhood days, united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, became the wife of a Methodist preacher,
and for over 62 years has been a faithful and true disciple of her Lord. She loved her church as her chief joy, to do her heavenly Father's will was her pleasure, and to attend the worship and service of God in the sanctuary was her great delight. She was indeed a Mother in Israel."

June 1927 " John Lewis Parker was born in Kentucky, August 31, 1864 and died in Beaumont,
Monday morning. May 23, 1927.
Although he had been sick for a number of months, his death came suddenly and was a shock to
the entire community in which the deceased had won the esteem of all.
Mr. Parker has been active in local affairs until the time of his sickness.
He was a charter member of the Fed- \ erated churches and was president of the Men's Bible
class when he took sick, and took a great interest in church affairs.
He was also a city trustee, having served on the board for several years, and a Rotarian.
He is survived by his widow and three sons, Lewis, Hugh and Jack,
all of whom were at home, and a daughter Helen, a student in the state college at
Eugene, Ore. Another daughter, Esther, ten years of age, passed away February 7, 1926.
The funeral services were held at the Federated church Wednesday afternoon,
May 25, at 3:30. Rev. Elmer Grant Keith conducted the services, assisted by Rev. A. N. Porter
of the United Presbyterian church. Interment was in Mount View cemetery. The business
houses of the city closed their doors during the services as a last tribute
of respect to the departed and the church was filled to overflowing by
those present at the services. There were numerous floral pieces to bespeak the esteem which the departed had won from his fellowtownsmen by a life well lived.”
The above clipping, taken from the paper at Beaumont, California,
refers to a pioneer citizen of this community. He is a brother to Mrs. Fred Parshall and to
Alvin Parker, both residents of Wray. Several years ago Mr. Parker moved his family to
California. They later returned to Wray and Mr. Parker was asociated with the Standard Lumber

CRITTIE
February 1900 "Miss Crittie Parker is the owner of a beautiful lady's wheel, a present from her father. "
August 1912 "Miss Jennie Ware is visiting her grand-mother, Mrs. L. R. Parker and her aunt, Miss Crittie Parker. Miss Jennie arrived Tuesday from Omaha
where she is in training at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital. She is enjoying a two weeks vacation."
January 1915 "Miss Crittenden Parker and Mr. Fred Parshall Took the Marriage Vows at Cameron , Mo ., Yesterday Noon.
As the pranks of Dan Cupid are seldom entirely hidden, and there is generally a well founded suspicion of what he is doing in the town, the many friends of Fred Parshall and Miss Crittie Parker were not surprised yesterday morning when it was announced that the
active little god had bound these two popular people of the town, hand and foot, and would turn them over to Hymen, the logical recipient of the victims of the little archer, at high noon of that day.
The wedding took place at Cameron, Mo., where the bridegroom had gone last Sunday to be joined by the bride shortly before time
set for the ceremony. The Rev. Robert Parshall of the Methodist church, a brother of Mr. Parshall, pronounced the words that united the lives of these two much respected people of our town.
The bride has grown from girlhood in this locality and is the youngest daughter of Rev. and Mrs. L. R. Parker, who have passed away.
She has been a popular leader in social and church circles hotii in Wray and the neighborhood
east of Vernon where she lived before coming to Wray. Mr. Parshall has been a citizen of Wray for several years, connected with the Amos Carl hardware, and is among our most respected citizens.
The Rattler joins with their host of friends in wishing them a long, happy life of prosperity together.
The newlyweds will spend three or four weeks visiting in Missouri, where both have many friends and relatives, and where the two first met as children. Then it is their intention to return to Wray and make their future home
among us.:
July 30, 1959 "Death came Sunday to Crittie (Mrs. Fred) Parshall, a true pioneer resident of the Wray community. Her death followed a long period of declining health due to her advanced age. Mrs. Parshall left a long record of service to this area.
The former Eva Crittendon Parker, a daughter of Luis and Sarah Parker, she was born October 17, 1870, at Savanna, Mo., and had reached the age of 88 years, nine months and nine days at the time of her death.
She came to Colorado with her parents about 1886 and lived with them south of Wray where her father, a Methodist minister, conducted services in the Glendale sod church.
The first church services in the community were held in the yard of the sod home of her parents.
She and Fred Parshall were married on January 6, 1915, in Cameron, Mo. They made their home in Wray throughout their married life.
Mrs. Parshall possessed culture, intelligence and a friendly and impressive personality and she contributed to the betterment of life in this community from pioneer days until her final years.
She was a life-long member of tne Methodist church, transferring her membership to the Wray Methodist church in 1900.
For many years she taught a Sunday school class for girls that attracted not only those of her own denomination but many of the young people of the She was a charter
member of the Tuesday Study club and the Women's Society of Christian Service in this community, and was active in support of many
projects to add to the cultural growth of the community. She had no children of her own,
but she opened her home to her sister's children. To three of these, Mary Ware Newell of Salem, Ore., Jennie Ware Hayward of California,
and Betty Jones Starrman of Loveland, she was the equivalent of a mother and they made their home with the Parshalls during much of their youth.
She cared for her parents in the declining years of their lives. Besides these three nieces, she is survived by her husband and and a number of other nieces and
nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Parshall were held Wednesay afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Wray Methodist church with the Reverend Willis Wisehart officiating, and burial followed in Grandview cemetery."
