December 1940 "Mr. and Mrs. Junior Parker drove to Denver for Thanksgiving Day. Mr. Parker went to see the exciting Denver University-Colorado (football game)."

"Ramona, Barbara Jane and Ronald Parker spent Thanksgiving with their grandparents, Mrs. Mary Ward. Mr. and Mrs. Junior Parker attended a football game at Denver Thanksgiving Day. They were accompanied home by Miss Maty Thompson, who is employed at the St. Lukes hoopital. Miss Thompson returned to Denver Friday night."

December 1951 "Funeral services are being held in Colorado Springs this Thursday afternoon for Charles Sparks, 94, former resident of Vernon who died Monday. A daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Parker of Vernon, went to the Springs on Friday when they learned he was ill.
Other children are Mrs. Bert Brokaw of Woodland Park, Albert Sparks of Denver and Mrs. Harold Brown of Scottsbluff, Neb. Grandchildren from this community who also attended the services are Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Parker, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kohlman and family."

February 1960 "Mrs. Claude Parker received a phone call Sunday night telling her of the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. Charles Sparks of Colorado Springs. Monday Beryl Parker took his mother to the Springs. Mrs. Sparks is known to our older citizens as she and her husband, the late Charles Sparks, conducted the former Parker store here in Vernon for many years. Mrs. Sparks is 87 years of age and a cousin of the late Mrs. George Allison. "


October 1960 "Mr. and Mrs. Claude Parker, highly esteemed Vernon couple, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this past week on Saturday. October 8. Mrs. Parker is the former Syble Sparks and they were married at Vernon which has since been their home. Their children are J. S. Parker, Beryl Parker and Mrs. Raymond (Madge) Kohlman, all of Wray. In celebration of the occasion, they were honored at a family dinner on Sunday at the J. S. Parker home at which the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Kohlman and Janet, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Kohlman of Sterling, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jones Jr., Sherry Kay and Mark, Miss Alice Lyons and Ron Parker, both of McCook."

August 1955 "Albert Sparks, brother of Mrs. Claude Parker of Vernon, died Monday morning in Denver where he had made his home since leaving the Vernon community. He is survived by his wife. Services will be held at the Hofmann Mortuary in Denver on Friday at one o'clock with burial in Fairmount.
Planning to attend are Mr. and Mrs. Claude Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kohlman and Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Parker."
