George A. Wilford, Vaclac and Bessie (Willford) Kasal, north of Eckley
One post says "My Grandfather, Vaclav(James)Kasal came to the US through Chicago during the World's Fair. He emmigrated from Bohemia when he was 18. He had an Uncle living in Missouri. He later traveled to Curtis, Nebraska where he worked for George Wilford and married Bessie Wilford. He had a brother, Anton and a sister Josie. His mother's name was Maria Musiel."
George A. Wilford and Lucinda Wood married July 5, 1873 in Blackford County, Indiana.
In 1885 Saline County, Nebraska, Bessie Wilford is 1, with George 39 and Wilma 37. Frank is 7.
In 1900 Saline County, George is 48, Lucinda 48 born in Ohio, with Bessie Sept 1883, Bert October 1886, Emma Dec 1889, and Goldie May 1897.
Lucinda died in 1908, and is buried in Blackford County, Indiana # 62259593.
George is widowed in 1910 Frontier County, Nebraska, a farm labore, with Bert A. 22 and Goldie 17.
There's a Frank S. Willford in Frontier County, 32, born in Indiana, with Maude D. 28, married seven years. Nellie M. is 3, Hazel six months.
He was born September 11, 1877 in Blackfoot, Indiana, to George A. Willford and Lucinda G. WOod.
This Frank is farming in Phillips County, Colorado, registering for WWI with a Holyoke address, born September 11, 1877.
October 9, 1934 Idaho Post-Register "Funeral services for Colleen Wilford, 10 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilford of Osgood, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the McHan funeral chapel. Bishop David Smith officiated. The child died at a local hospital Saturday evening. Besides the parents there are the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ham mer and Mr and Mrs. Frank S. Wilford surviving. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery."
"A number from here attended the funeral of Colleen Wilford, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilford of Fort Hall at Idaho Falls on the 9, Mrs. Wilford is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R B. Hanner and both are former residents."

In 1920 Yuma County, Vaclav is 43, born in Austria, immigrating in 1894, natualized in 1898. He's married to Bessie 35, with Magaret 17, Eunice 15, Wayne 12, Frankie 7, and Francis 3, all bon in Nebraska.
Vaclac proved up two quarters in sections 1 and 2, 2N 46W in 1922. He was listed as owne in 1920, with two residences in the center of section 2, not on a road.
The newspaper for his proof gave his name as Vaclav, with witnesses Guy Probasco, Charles S. Rawson, Francis K. Hall, and Ella French.
The 1922 directory said he arrived in Yuma County in 1917, married Bessie Wilford.
In 1922 Wayne Kasal was an eighth graduate from District No. 16, with V. Leroy Probasco and Vaughn J. Probasco.
In 1930 Montezuma County, Colorado, James Kasal is 54, Bessie 46, Frank F. 17, Francis M. 13, and Emma F. 6.
Wayne Kasal married Lois Evelyn Lyon on January 15, 1929, recorded in Montezuma County.

Frank F. Kasal, 1913-1998 per # 24843386, died in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Frank F. Kasal died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at his home in Las Cruces, N.M. He was 85. There was cremation. A gathering of family and friends will be held the last week of June at the Florida Campgrounds. Mr. Kasal was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Crete, Nebrasla. He was a longtime resident of Durango, where he owned and operated Kasal and Fernando Auto Repair until his retirement. Mr. Kasal was a member of the National Moose Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Armstrong Kasal of Las Cruces, N.M.; three daughters, Vickie Dosenbach of Florissant, Mo., Kathleen "Kitty" Tavenner of Tucson, Ariz., and Lois Kasal of Las Cruces, N.M.; a sister, Faith Visage of Paso Robles, Calif.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The cause of death was not available. |
Durango resident Agnes "Sissy" Foster died Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango. She was 80. Mrs. Foster was born to Lois and Wayne Kasal on Feb. 5, 1934, in Dolores. She graduated from Durango High School in 1951, and went on to attend Central Business College in Denver.On July 12, 1953, she married Manuel V. Foster. The couple had two children together.The Fosters moved around Southern Colorado often following her husband's work with the Colorado State Patrol and Colorado State Highway Department, now the Colorado Department of Transportation. During her life, Mrs. Foster lived in Durango, Ridgway, Silverton, South Fork and Alamosa. She had many different job occupations. She worked as a waitress, store clerk, dispatcher and bookkeeper. At one time, she was the assistant manager of a candle shop."She truly loved to work," according to her family. The Fosters settled in Durango after their retirement.Mrs. Foster also enjoyed spending her time painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting. "She was a craftperson, she loved making things for people," her son, Douglas Foster, said. Her home was decorated with different things that she had made through the years. She was known for giving things that she had made to family members and close friends. Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Manuel V. Foster, in 2008; and daughter Sandra Lynn Foster. She is survived by her sister, Terry Carmon, of Durango; son, Douglas Foster, of Seminole, Texas; three grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.At her request, there will be no service. ------------------------------------------------ Duane Wilford Kasal, a longtime resident of Southwest Colorado, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez. He was 76. Mr. Kasal was born Sept. 9, 1929, to Wayne and Lois McCabe Kasal in Dolores. He graduated from Durango High School in 1947. A little more than a year later, on Dec. 18, 1948, he married Neoma Greenstreet in Durango. The couple had four children. Mr. Kasal worked as insurance agent in Durango, until he and Mrs. Kasal moved to Cortez eight years ago. Friends and family remembered him as devoted and said he loved playing with his children and grandchildren. An avid landscaper, he enjoyed gardening and yard work. He is survived by his wife, Neoma; son, Lyle Wayne Kasal of Aiea, Hawaii; daughters, Duanne Lynn Ostrander of Cortez, Cleo Lea Gregg of Durango and Lois Marie Miller of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; sisters, Agnes "Sissy" Foster and Terry Carmon both of Durango; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Cremation will take place, and a private memorial service will be scheduled for a later date. -------------------------------------------------- Memorial services for Cortez resident, Cleo Lea Gregg will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church. Pastor Bruce Burkett will be officiating. Cleo Lea Kasal was born on February 1, 1955 in Durango, Colo. to Duane and Neoma Kasal. She grew up in Durango with her three siblings, Lyle, Duanne and Lois. She finished school at the age of 16 and went on to marry Steve Gregg on December 18, 1971. They chose this date to honor her parents who had the same wedding anniversary. Following their union, Cleo and Steve knew they would have children and Heather was the first, then Diedre four years later and Matthew another six. They established and raised their family in Durango. Cleo enjoyed many activities, from reading to water skiing, gardening to cycling all over Colorado. Cleo also loved walking. She would walk to the school to meet her kids and walk home with them. She also spent many evenings walking up the canyon behind their Durango home. Every weekend was spent at Navajo Lake from Memorial thru Labor Day weekend. Only now do we realize how much work she put into her families recreation, always having a ready supply of "toothpaste." "Toothpaste" to her kids was chocolate, peanut and marshmallow clusters that would scrape the fuzz off of your teeth in the morning before you went out on the water. We also knew that Cleo's favorite skiing conditions were first thing in the morning, coining the phrase of "The Cleo Ripple". When she wasn't walking us to school or training for the Ride the Rockies, she would spend hours in her garden and green house. She could raise a beautiful rainbow of flowers in the front yard and squash in the back. The green house was full of starts and blossoms, trees from the red wood forest and sick plants she would take in and nurse back to health. Cleo spent several years as a student of the bible after Matty was born. She attended Bible Study every week which lead to many whole family dinner table conversations. This was her opportunity to acquaint her kids with her Lord. She also enjoyed and was well versed in all things baseball and football. This was a passion she shared with her father. Grandpa Kasal even made a wood carving of her "boyfriend" and favorite player, Eddie McCaffrey. Cleo excelled in her career as a personal banker, helping the community of Durango with financial decisions. She carried this knowledge and expertise to her family, making sure to teach her kids how to balance their check book and be responsible with their money.Results may have varied. With her kids all grown and starting families of their own, she decided to move to Cortez to be closer to her mom, sister, daughter and grandchildren. Her wish was to be near, and an active part of their lives. Now being fully able to fulfill those goals, she joined her mother and father in heaven on January 28, 2015. Cleo leaves behind three children and their families, Heather, Ken, Kenna and Kyla Tarr, Diedre, Mike, Megan, and Grace Donovan, Matthew, Jessie, Jasson and Steve Gregg; siblings and their families, Lyle and Vicki Kasal, Duanne and Mike Ostrander, Lois and Tom Miller; in addition to many aunts, uncles and cousins. |
