Erastus S. and Caroline (Kane) Hills, north of Eckley

In 1850 Lee County, Illinois, Caroline Kane is 11, with Hiram C. Holcomb 40 born in Massachusetts, Alina 40 New York. James Holcomb is 17, Dolly 13.

In 1860 Lee County, Caroline Kane is 22, born in New York, a servant in the Hiram and Alma Holcomb family, with two hired men

In 1850 Green County, Wisconsin, "Jael" Hills is 63, Polly 59, Mary 38, Erastus 17, and Wallace 13 (Wallace is Putnam)
In 1860 Green County, Joel Hillis 73, Polly 67, Mary 48, Erastus 27 - and Lousa Skillins is 11. Next household is R. Skillins 42 and Nancy 33 (Nancy must be a sister of Erastus), and they have six kids.

Because Frederick wasn't with Erastus in 1860, he is either an adopted son, OR he's Caroline's illegiitimate son, and perahps the D.F. Kane that was with them in Yuma COunty....
He must be the Fred Dexter in 1860 Lee County Illinois with Caroline, 3, born in Wisconsin.

June 1903 Wray "E. S. Hills of Grant City Mo., was in Wray Monday having a deed made over to him for some land he has recently purchased. He will locate here permanently about July 1st."
Yuma, July 1903 "E. S. Hills and family and D. F. Kane and family of Grant City, Missouri, arrived this week with their goods and stock and moved out on their ranch east of town."

1904 Yuma

1905 Yuma "Comrade Haver and D. F. Kane were inspecting the barbed wire telephone line Tuesday, but failed to locate the break."

July 7, 1905 Eckley items " D. F. Kane and family celebrated in Wray Monday and Tuesday, returning home Wednesday."

September 1, 1905 "Word was phoned in Wednesday evening that D. F. Kane had his right knee dislocated by a kick from a horse. Dr. Bilsborrow made a trip to the ranch, the injured member was set, and Mr. Kane is getting along nicely."
October 1905 Yuma " D. F. Kane, who has been suffering for some time from a broken leg, is able to be around by the aid of crutches. Mr. and Mrs. Kane spent most of the week in town at the Buel Hotel."

March 2, 1906 " A few of the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. F. Kane surprised them Wednesday evening of last week. Late in the evening refreshments were served, after presenting to Mr. and Mrs. Kane tokens of their regard and good will and wishing them success and happiness in their new home the surprisers departed."


Erastus cash-claimed a quarter in 8, 2N 46W in 1907.

July 1909 Eugene, Oregon "Erastus Hills who has been ill for some time is unimproved.."

August 1909 "Erastus Hills has left for his home at Lafayette, alter a pleasant visit with relatives here."

Caroline C. Hills, 1837-1909 is buried in Lane County, Oregon, # 76942582 with Erastus 1838-1912 # 76942460.

In 1910 LaFayette, Yamhill County, Oregon, Erastus is living alone, 76, widowed, born in New York.
June 26, 1912 Eugene Guard "At Jasper, at 2 a. m., Wednesday, June 26, 1912, Erastus S. Hills, aged 79 years, two months and one day. He was a pioneer of 1851 and was well known throughout the county. The funeral will be held at the Mt. Vernon cemetery Thursday."
"Erastus S. Hills was born on 25 Apr 1833 in Linklean, Onondaga, New York. He died on 26 Jun 1912 in Jasper, Lane, Oregon. He married Catherine Kane on 13 Feb 1862 in Lane, Oregon. ??? "

One tree has his brother WALLACE PUTNAM HILLS, b. October 09, 1836, Cicero, New York; d. April 26, 1922, Lafayette, Oregon.
W. P. Hills was the petitioner for Erastus' estate valued at $125, a brother, 75, , living at LaFayette, Oregon, and Nancy A. Skillings, a sister, 65 residing at Geddes, South Dakota.
Almina M KANE was born on 31 Aug 1833 in New York. She died on 9 May 1909 in Lafayette, Yamhill, Oregon. Almina married Wallace Putnam HILLS on 13 Apr 1856 in Albany, Green, Wisconsin.
In 1860 Green County, Wisconsin, Wallace Hills is 23, Almina 26, Chester 3. An 9probably Ansel) 22 is with them. Next household is Joel Hill 73, and Polly 67. Mary is 48, Eratus 27, and Louisa L. Killins 11 bon in Wisconsin.

Ansel J. Kane 1838-1898 is buried in Topeka, Kansas # 13877927, with Alice 1845-1902 "Frist Lieut Co H., 30th Michigan V.R. Corps.

In 1880 Ogle County, Illinois, there's a Fred Kane 23 born in Wisconsin, wtih Clara Kane 20 born in Michigan. Fred's father and mother were both born in New York....

Fred D. Kane, born in Wisconsin, and Clara born in Michigan, had a boy in Plymouth County Iowa November 19, 1881.

In 1900 San Miguel County, Colorado, David F. Kane is farming, born April 1857 in Wisconsin, father Ohio, mother MIchigan, married 22 years to Clara A April 1862 Michigan, with Clarence J. Jan 1885 Missouri.

In 1910 Lyon County, Nevada, D. F. is 53, born in Wisconsin, parents in New York, working at a livery stable, with Clara 48 - she's had five kids, one living. C. J. is 25 bon in Missouri, a salesman in a grocery.

In 1920 Spokane, David is 62, a hotel keeper. Clara is 57, a lodger, and so is Clarence 33 now married to Gladys E. 25 and with Robert F. four months.
David and Clara are alone in 1930 and 1940 Spokane, Washington.
Clara A. (Cain) Kane 1862-1953 is buried in Spokane # 154970151, with David Frederick 1857-1950 # 154970150 "His dad was Russell Kane."
