Charles E. Suthard, sister Nellie (Suthard) Hitchcock, Wray


"Elizabeth F. Heatwole married Benjamin F. Suthard February 13, 1879. He was born January 30, 1853. Black smith. P. O., Rushville, Virginia. Presbyterian.

Their children are:
1. Oliver C, born June 6, 1880.
2. Charles E., born March 23, 1882.
3. Mary E., born May 23, 1884; died January 12, 1887.
4. Ernest F., born August 15, 1886; died November 3, 1906.
5. Julian E., born July 4, 1891; died October 3, 1896.
6. Hettie E., born January 13, 1895. "

Charles Edward Suthard was born March 23, 1882 in Rockingham County, Virginia to Benjamin F. Suthard and Elizabeth Frances Heatwole.

In 1900 Rockingham County, Benjamin is a ship carpenter, born January 1853, married 21 years to Emeline E. April 1857. She's had six kids, four living. Oliver C. June 1880 and Chas E. March 1882 are farm laborers, Earnest F. Aug 1886 and Nellie E. Jan 1894. All were born in Virginia.

Ernest 1886-1906 is buried in Rockingham County.

In 1910, still in Rockingham County, Benjamin is 57, Elizabeth F. 54, Charles E. 28 and Nellie E. 15.


August 1916 Wray "Mrs. Maud Shaw and daughter returned home after visiting in the B. F. Suthard home in this county. They drove out from Michigan in an auto. Mrs. Shaw is a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Suthard. "

Charles proved up two quarters in sections 20, 21, 28 and 29, 2N 44W in 1916.

Charles Edward Suthard registered for WWI in Wray, born March 23, 1882, employed as a carpenter fby A. B. Rounds of Wray, mother E.F. Suthard of Wray.

In 1920 Wray, Charles E. Suthard is single, 37 born in Virginia, a carpenter, boarding with the widow Bridget M. Crowley 59.

He's a carpenter in 1930 Rockingham County, Virginia, 48, married to Annie E. Southard 49. Daughter Mary W. Zigler 28 and John M. Zigler 30 have Jane W. 1.


February 1931 "R. W. Noffsinger is advertising a farm sale for Thursday, Feb. 12, in this issue of the Gazette. Mr. Noffsinger has a good offering of 25 head of livestock, including horses, cattle, hogs and 16 dozen chickens, besides a big list of farm machinery, household goods, etc. The sale will be held at the Chas. Suthard place, 4 miles west and 2% miles north of Wray and will commence at 12 o'clock sharp. Price and Hoover are the auctioneers and the First National Bank will clerk the sale."

Charles E. 1882-1951 is buried in Rockingham County, Virginia # 53509580, on the same stone as Annie E. 1878-1957.
The informant was Mrs. John M. Zigler.
June 1, 1950 "Mrs. Lillian Southard and daughter and daughter Jannette visiteu Charley Southard Saturday eveevening."

Nellie E. Suthard, 24, married C.A. Hitchcock on April 23, 1919 in Yuma County.

In 1920 Elizabeth Suthard is 62, living with daughter Nellie Hitchcock 25 and her husband Charles A. Hitchcock, 38, born in Missouri.

Benjamin Suthard 1853-1922 is buried in Rockingham County.

Nellie Eva Hitchcock is buried in Wray, 1895-1924.

1942 Wray "C. A. Hitchcock of Bridgewater, Virginia, has ordered The Gazette sent to him. He is a former resident of this community and a brother of Fred, John, Jim and Sid Hitchcock of Wray."


Elizabeth F. Suthard 1857-1935 is buried in Rockingham County.
