Simon Pierce and Susan E. (Drury) Higbee, Yuma



Thanks to the Higbee Family.

S. P. Higbee and S.E. Drury married on July 4, 1875 in Wayne, Iowa.

They had Worthey Desting Higbee on April 4, 1876 in Humiston, Iowa.

In 1880 S.P., 28, Susan E. 25, and Worthey D. 4 are in Wayne County, Iowa.

In 1900 Smith County, Kansas, Simon Higbee born Jan 1853 in Ohio, married 25 years to Susan E. Jan 1855 Indiana, have Worthy D. April 1876 in Iowa, Rufus G. Oct 1882, John S. June 1899, and Nellie E. Sept 1891, all three born in Kansas.

In 1910 Smith County, Kansas, Worthy Higbee is farming, 34, born in Iowa, with partner Glick 26 born in Kanssa. Next household is S. P. Higbee 58 born in Ohio with S.E. 55 born in Indiana, married 34 years. SHe's had sevenkids, four living. John is 20, Nellie 18, both born in Kansas.

Simon, 66, Susan 65, Worthy D. 43 and Glick 37 are farming in Yuma County on the Burlington Highway in 1920.

July 1925 "Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Higbee celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary."

In 1930 Yuma County, Simon is farming, 78, Susan 75, Worthy D. 5, and Rufus G. 48
Worthy and Rufus have no occupations listed.

Simon Pierce Higbee 1852-1932 is buried in Yuma # 50790512, with Susan Elizabeth (Drury) Higbee 1855-1939 # 50790513.

WORTHEY

September 1911 South Eckley items "Worthy Higbee of Smith county, Kansas, is here visiting J. W. Fletcher and a number other old neighbors and looking for a location. He speaks well of our sandy land and says our crops are as good as Smith county's. We hope the Higbee family will locate in our county as they are fine people."

Wray 1912 "Worthy Higbee and H. P. Hill are here from Smith county, Kansas. Mr. Higbee to build on his claim south of Yuma and Mr. Hill is looking for a location."

1914 "Worthy Higbee and daughter (SHOULD BE SISTER), Miss Nellie, and Miss Mabel Nebbergall, of south of Yuma, left Wednesday for Smith Center, Kansas."

Worthy D. Higbee proved up 320 acres in sections 30 and 31, 1N 48W in 1916.

March 1915 " John H. Fail last week sold 160 acres of unimproved land, eight miles southwest of Yuma, to Worthey Higbee."

Worthey Desting Higbee registered for WWI in Yuma, born April 4, 1876, mother Elizabeth.

March 21, 1918 R. G. and D. W. Higbee had a sale, seven mile south and four miles west of Yuma.

Rufus and Worthey are living 15 521 South Albany in 1940 Yuma, renting.
1945 "Glick Higbee spent Sunday in Denver visiting his brother, W.D. Higbee, a patient at Colorado General Hospital. Worthy is in a wheel chair part of the time."

Worthy 1876-1948 is buried in Yuma # 50790514.



NELLIE

Nellie Higbee, 25 and Roy Ray, 23 married in Wray on December 20, 1916.

They're farming in Yuma County in 1920, in El Paso County, Colorado in 1930.

LeRoy Guy Ray, 1894-1938 is buried in Yuma # 59792059.
February 17, 1938

"Nellie died in 1983 in Scott City, Scott Co., Kansas."
THIS MIGHT BE WRONG

In 1959 Nellie Tucker was the informant for the death of James Monroe Tucker in Caldwell, born Dec 31, 1888.
James is buried in Caldwell # 96094019.
James' first wife Efie had died in 1958.

1961 Yuma "Nellie Tucker, who has been visiting at the home of her brother, R.G. Higbee and Mrs. Higbee since mid-October, left Friday night to return to her home at Caldwell, Idaho."

JOHN

John Simon Higbee, 1889-1918, is buried in Yuma # 50790510.

RUFUS

Rufus Glick Higbee 1882-1965 is buried in Yuma # 50790511.
