Max Whitaker, Wray

Max M. Whiteaker proved up a quarter in 2N 43W - east of Wray - in 1919.
That land was farmed in 1920 by B. E. Turner.

Max registered in Yuma County, born Oct 20, 1882, nearest relative Myrtle Whiteaker of Laird.



Although it's not likely, Myrtle could be.
Myrtle Whitaker, 26, of North Platte, Nebraska, married LeRoy Baker, 31 of Thermopolis, Wyomin on June 4, 1915 in Akron, Colorado.

His father was Leonard D. Whittaker born in 1881 and an uncle would be Edwin B. born 1878. So he's not directly rleated to the Yuma County Max.

In 1900 Vigo County, Indiana, Augustus Whitaker is a grocer, born May 1855 in, marrid 18 years to Julia July 1857, with Max A. October 1884 and Julius C. April 1888, all born in Indiana.

In 1910 Augustus and Julius are working in a grocery, Max in a foundry. Chamberlain Whittaker 91, widowed, born in Ireland is with them.

In 1920 Maxie Whitaker is in Terre Haute, 34, working in the foundry, with Julia 62.

He's buried in Terre Haute, Indiana - October 20, 1884 - April 20, 1942 # 26027207. His death certificate said he was born in Terre Haute to Augustus C. WHitaker and Julia Reisner, both born in Indiana, single.

Augustus Chamberlin Whitaker 1855-1918 is also buried there, with Julia 1857-1939 # 26900076.

Terre Haute 2007 "Max Whitaker, 81, died Monday, July 23, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 21, 1926, to Julius Whitaker and Gertrude Giffel Whitaker. He died as he lived, amongst family and friends at his home, which he loved. His wife, Jean Whitaker, survives him. They were married Jan. 16, 1948, and were together for 60 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Vonda Whitaker Monts and her companion Ron Leslie, and Cath Whitaker Lee and her husband Rick Lee; four grandchildren, Chastidy Large, Carly Chumley, Ben Monts and Annalee Monts; six great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Derrik, Meghan, Layke, Gabe and Amani; and one niece, Nancy Watson. He was preceded in death by his father, Julious Whitaker; his mother, Gertrude Giffel; one sister, Julia Watson; and one nephew, Bruce Watson.
He loved watching plants grow and always had a beautiful garden, which he graciously shared. He also loved fishing, woodworking, and being with family and friends. Max was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He served in the Air Force during World War II. While in the Air Force, he was an aerial gunner on a B-29, and also a barber. After returning from the service, he was a carpenter for a short time before going to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He was there for 42 years where he worked in mail processing and became assistant postmaster. He was involved in the National Association of Postal Supervisors, where he served in numerous offices at the local, state and national levels. He was a member of the Strawberry Hills Cannoneers and Joint Chief of Staff for several years up until his illness. He will be missed, but those who knew him will always remember his wonderful smile and giving nature that he so possessed. "

In 1941 Max Whitaker is a student at the University of Nebraska, living at 348 N. 14th.

Max M. Whittaker is an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1958, living at 2735 S. 36th.
He's too young to be the Yuma County land claimant, but his father Leonard D. Whittaker born May 1881 in Gage County, Nebraska might be the brother of the Yuma County Max.
