Sarah J. (Powell) Turman, Wray
She was born March 12, 1840 in Hollansburg, Darke County, Ohio,
parents John Powell 1814-1897 dying in Livingston County, Illinois and Mary Polly Miller 1814-1899.
"John Powell was reared principally to farm life
and pursued his early studies in the pioneer log
cabin of sixty years ago. He was united in marriage, on the 25th of December, 1848, with Miss
Mary Miller, who was born in Montgomery County,
Ohio, April 25, 1814, and was the daughter of
Christian and Susaimah Miller, natives of Pennsylvania and of German descent. Of this union there
were born seven children, six now living and located
as follows: Franklin A. is a resident of Thayer
County, Neb. ; Newman J., of Pontiac ; John K., of
Oregon; Sarah J., the wife of Samuel B. Turman, of
Colorado, an engineer on the Kansas Pacific Railroad; : Laura is Mrs. J. D. Honeywell, of Monroe
County. and Susannah L., the wife of Uriah
Springer, of Pontiac Township, this county. Mr.
Powell became a resident of Livingston County in
1851, locating first two and one-half miles northeast
of Chenoa."
John is buried in Pontiac, Livingston County 1814-1897 # 118277962,
with Mary (Miller) Powell 1814-1899 # 118277979.
Samuel B. Turman was in Warren County, Indiana in 1950, age 12, with Young Turman 38 and Rebecca 36. Margaret is 13, William H. 10, Susan 6, and Lucy K. 2.
Young F. Turman 1813-1877 is buried in Warren County # 102896907,
with Rebecca (Campbell) Turman 1814-1881 # 59659494.

His brother William Henry Harrison Turman 1840-1930 is buried in Wray, Colorado # 45128933.

1896 Boulder "Sam Turman, the veteran K. P. engineer,
came up on last Sunday with Will Terry to look after
his valuable mining interests here, and went up to the
Porcupine on Monday.
A deal of some magnitude is pending on this property."
May 1896 "Jonah Hill is down tonight from
Ray City, at the head of Gillespie gulch,
and reports that part of the district coming to the
front. There is a new deal on the Porcupine,
but Sam Turman stays on, and has located a tunnel
site on the Left Hand slope which will cut the
Porcupine 1,000 feet deep in running less than
l,000 feet. Work will commence very soon on
the tunnel, which will cut several good veins
before reaching the Porcupine."

December 1913 Wray "Mrs. S. J. Turman, of Boulder, came down
to Wray Saturday and closed the deal with the Woman's Real Estate Company
that day by which she became the owner of the homestead two miles northwest
of town which was formerly owned by E. A. Davis. Mrs. Turman is residing on
her homestead at the present time."
September 1915 "Mrs. Frank Susie came down
from her home in Boulder ... and is visiting her
mother, Mrs. Sarah J. Turman, of two miles east of town.
Mrs. Susie intends to spend the winter here."
In 1918 Sarah proved up 320 acres in sections 28 and 33, 2N 43W - about three
miles north of Wray.

Samuel was a locomotive engineer in Elbert County, Colorado in 1880, and a miner in 1900 Boulder County.
Mary F. "Jaza" born September 1864 in Illninois, father Indiana, mother Ohio,
married 15 years to John B. Jaza March 1860 Wisconsin,
a miner, with Ralph Sept 1886, Glen April 1889, and Cordelia July 1893, all three born in COlorado.
John Juza married "Franklin Turman' on March 10, 1885 in Denver.
In 1885 Elbert County, Colorado, John Juza is an engineer, 25 with Frankie 20 born in Illinois.

September 1915 "Boulder -
Clad in overalls of the usual male variety,
Misses Cordelia Juza and Ethel Glese,
formerly of this city, are working every day
gathering tungsten float at Nederland and are
making money at it. Miss Juza is soon to be married
and recently, when the price of tungsten went
skyrocketing to $15 a unit, she decided the time
had come to make her trousseau purse with little
difficulty. The young women work ten hours every
day and have been making $8 a day clear after
having paid all royalties on the tract handled.
After a day or so they found they could not work
to advantage in skirts, so they donned overalls.
They refuse to let curiosity seekers approach
their reserve."
