Ernest E. and Lizzie M. Richards, Wray
Lizzie M. Wingate, 22, married Earnest E. Richrds in Onowa, Monona County Iowa on August 12, 1885.

Ernest Eugene Richards, born at Henderson, Iowa, and Lizzie Maria Wingate, born in Noray,m had Flora Jay Richards on June 26,m 1894 in Soldier, Monona County, Iowa. Flora McGinnis was living at Mead, Colorado in 1956.

In 1900 Monona County, Iowa, E.E. is farming, born March 1864 in Iowa, married 16 years to L.M. Feb 1863 Norway. Guy F. July 1886, Fay June 1888, Ray Oct 1889, Hazel May 1891, Flora June 1893, Earl Nov 1895, and Win Sept 1898.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Colorado, Ernest is farming, 45, born in Iowa, married 24 years to Lizzie M. 46 born in Norway. ay W. is 20, Hazel E. 17, Flora J. 15, Earl V. 13, and Winn G. 11, all five born in Iowa.

February 1911 "Isaac Reed left yesterday with two loads of household goods for his new home on the farm near Burlington , and E . E . Richards arrived in Wray the day before and is moving into the Reed residence"

June 1919 " E. E. Richards this week became the owner of the 800 acres of land known as the Carrol farm, four miles north of Wray. This ranch will be in charge of Mr. Richard's son-in-law, Mont McGinnis and O. K. McElwain. Mr. Richards now owns 1,550 acres of land all joining and when he gets it improved and stocked will make one of the finest ranches in this country."

June 1918 "Mrs. T. C. Torrison of Omaha, arrived Wednesday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. E. E. Richards."

In 1920 Wray, Ernest E. Richards is 55, born in IOwa, a merchant, with Lizzie M. 56 born in Norway immigrating in 1872.


In 1921 Ernest stock-claimed 40 acres in section 6, 2N 43W - about seven miles north of Wray.
September 1923 "Mrs . T . C . Torrison and daughter Milrred of Omaha are guests this week at the home of Mr . and Mrs . E . E . Richards in west Wray . Mrs . Torrison is a sister of Mrs . Richards ."

Earnest E. Richards 1864-1929 is buried in Wray # 63165102. So is Lizzie M. Richards 1863-1934 # 63165187.

WYNN

July 1919 Wray "Wynn Richards left Sunday for North Platte, Neb., there to accept a position in a hardware and furniture store."

Wynn proved up 320 acres in 3S 44W in 1922.

December 1923 "Miss Irene Sample and Wynn Richards motored to Trenton, Ne., Sunday, and visited Mr. and Mrs. Earl Richards."

Wynn G. Richards married Irene Sample on April 4, 1928 in Denver.

"Miss A. Irene Sample and Mr. Wynn G. Richards were united in mariage at the parsonage of the Central Presbyterian church in Denver, on Monday, April 4, with the Rev. Martin E. Anderson, pastor of the church, officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Richards were attended by intimate friends. After the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Richards enjoyed a few days honeymoon in Denver and surrounding places of interest. They returned to Wray the latter part of the week where they will make their home.
Mrs. Richards is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Sample of south of Laird and is a charming and accomplished young lady. She was deputy county treasurer for the past two terms and her charming personality has made her a host of friends in this community.
Mr. Richards is a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Richards of Wray and is the proprietor of the Model Cleaners and Dyers. He is known as one of the most enterprising and successful of the younger business men of Wray.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Richards are children of pioneer families of this community and they have a host of friends, not only among the younger set, but among the older people as well who will join with us in wishing them success and happiness.
Mr. and. Mrs. Richards have leased the Wolfe residence in east Wray, and will be at home to their friends there within the next few weeks."

Agnes Irene Sample was in Yuma County in 1920, 19, with Fred L. 47 and Bertha G. 45.
April 7, 1927 Yuma Pioneer

August 1928 "Wynn G. Richards was examined in Denver last week for his injuries which he received in an auto accident last July 4th. An X-ray showed that he was suffering from an injured vertebra, and it will be necessary for him to wear a plaster paris cast until the injured member mends, probably for several months. Mr. Richards returned to Wray last Thursday. With the exception of the discomfort of the cast, he is feeling much better and this week began doing his work again at h:s cleaning and presing _ establishment here. Reynold Coad, who has been helping him, has leased a cleaning business at Yuma and is moving there this week."

February 28, 1929 "The people of the community were shocked last night by word of the death of Mrs. Wynn G. Richards at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sample, south of Laird. Mrs. Richards has been suffering with tuberculosis for several months, but it has been the general opinion that her condition was not serious and word of her death was a shock to her friends.
Mrs. Richards had a wide acquaintance throughout this section and was very popular with everyone with whom she came in contact. Before her marriage she had served as deputy county treasurer. About two years ago she and Mr. Richards were married and soon afterward she learned that she was suffering from tuberculosis. Every care has been given her, and every effort has been made to effect a cure.
Some time ago she went to the farm home of her parents to be cared for and it was believed for a while that she showed improvement Mrs. Richards was a fine type of young womanhood and her death will leave an ache in the hearts of many friends."

Wynn is in Wray in 1930, 32, widowed, with mother Lizzie M. Richards, 67 - he was in North Platte Nebraska with Earl in 1920.

November 1939 "Wynn G. Richards and Miss Marcia Whisnant, both of Denver were united in marriage October 28th, at Boulder. They were attended by the groom's sister, Mrs. O. K. McElwqin, and niece Mrs. Edward Dorrance, both of Lyons. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. S. Whisnant, formerly of Wray. The bride attended high school in Wray and Fort Collins and she also attended Denver University and graduated from Denver college of music majoring in piano and organ. She has taught music in the Denver School of Music and in the Wilcox School of Music.
The groom is a former Wray man. While in Wray he was engaged in the clothes cleaning and pressing business and he is now associated with one of Denver's leading cleaning plants. Mr. and Mrs. Richards are at home at 1056 Lincoln St., Denver. The Rattler extends Mr. and Mrs. Richards congratulations and good wishes. "

(April 1909 St. Francis, Kansas "Chas. S. Whisnant and bride late of Idalia, Colorado, have moved into the Riddell house on Roosevelt boulevard, and Charlie will hereafter assist in dispensing cultivators, discs, harrows, nails etc., at the busy establishment of John I. Deal.")
1917 Craig "Charles S. Whisnant, who last month located on land just north of the Morgan place arrived in Maybell Monday, bought a team of Albert Gent and one horse of Gene Huut, a riding plow of Chas. Hunt and is ready for plowing. His car of goods will be here next week. It consists of ten good cows, farm machinery and household goods. Whisnant is just the kind of a fellow to help build up a country, a thour farmer and good business man. May we get many more like him. "
1922 Meeker, Colorado "Fred Oaks and wife, Bay Press and Zack Phelps, a delegation of very desirable people, arrived from Grainfield, Kansas this week and are looking the country over with a view to locating in Rio Blanco county. These folks came in on the invitation of our fellow townsman Charles S. Whisnant."
1926 Wray "Charles Whisnant at Meeker, a former resident of Wray, was in town looking for a house to rent. His family planned to move the middle of July."

In 1940 Wynn is in Craig, Colorado, 38, with Marcia Richards, 27 born in Kansas. Both were in Denver in 1935.
January 1941 Craig "Mr. and Mrs. Wynn G. Richards are very happy over the arrival of a j 7M: pound baby boy, born at the Hayden hospital Saturday morning, January 18 at 6 a. m. The new arrival has been named Wynn Gerald, Jr., He is the first child."

March 1941 Craig " ANNOUNCING Piano Studio

August 1941 "Mrs. C. S. Whisnant of Denver came to Craig Tuesday on the bus and will spend several days in Craig at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wynn G. Richards. Mrs. Whisnant is Mrs. Richards’ mother."

August 1941 "Dr. and Mrs. Frank Maxwell of Georgetown, Colorado came to Craig and spent the week-end visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wynn G. Richards. They returned home Sunday. Mrs. Maxwell is a sister of Mr. Richards."

December 1941 " Mrs. Wynn C. Richards, son Wynn, Jr., and Mrs. Richards’ mother, Mrs. Whisnant, who has been in Craig for several days, left Craig, Saturday, for Denver, where Mrs. Richards and son will visit at the Whisnant home for a cpuple of weeks. Mrs. Richards is recuperating from a recent illness."

1941 Craig, Colorado

1945 "Mr. and Mrs. Wynn Richards have sold their cleaning and pressing business in Craig to Joe Eads of Denver."

Wynn is buried in Fort Logan 1898-1953 # 3368035, Private in the air service WWI.

December 1953 "Denver newspapers this week carried a death notice for Wynn G. Richards. Mr. Richards was a member of a widely known early day Wray family. He spent his boyhood here and for several years operated a cleaning establishment at Wray. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Fort Logan National cemetery."

Charles S. Whisnant 1883-1981 is buried in Goodland, Kansas # 91462209, with Anna Belle 1883-1968 # 91462176.
Their daughter Eloise Lancaster 1910-2000 is buried in Bennett Colorado # 28291113.

Wynn Gerald Richards - Jan 18, 1941 -July 10, 2000 is buried in Rock Island National # 62467974. "Lt. Col U.S. Army"

"Susan Elizabeth Richards, daughter of Maj.and Mrs. Wynn Gerald Richards, 11-3 Meade Ave., Fort Leavenworth, was born Dec. 7. 1977. The maternal grandparents are Sgt. Maj. and Mrs. William A. Johnson, Fort Leavenworth."

GUY

Guy Franklin Richards 1886-1950 is buried in Cheyenne, Wyoming # 29169201, with Anna Helena (Remmes) "Lena A." 1886-1947.

FAY

March 1916 "Mr. and Mrs. O. K. McIlvain and daugher, little Miss Joy, arrived from their former home at Sioux City, Iowa to take up their residence on the E. E. Richards farm five miles northeast of Wray, more commonly known ns the George Long school section. Mr. and Mrs. Mcllvain are visiting in the home of Mrs. McIlwain's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Richards, for a few days and will move out to the farm the last of the week."

Fay McElwain 1888-1951 is buried in Longmont, Colorado # 60874011, with Orvil McElwain 1887-1970.

EARL

Earl V. Richards and Lola Billesbach married in Yuma County on June 6, 1917.

In 1920 North Platte, Nebraska, Earl is working in a furniture store, 24, with wife 23. Maxine 2 was born in Colorado, Dick seven months in Nebraska. Earl's brother Winn 24 is with them.

In 1930 Hitchcock County, Nebraska, Earl has a lunch room, with Lola J. born in Nebraska, both 34, Maxine 11 born in Colorado and Dick C. 10 in Nebraska.

Dick C. Richards, born at North Platte, 23, a federal clerk, married Eleanor Baker, 23 born in Grand Rapids Michigan, on June 12, 1942.

HAZEL

Hazel Richards, 24, married F. J. Maxwell on April 18, 1917 in Wray.

In 1930 Franklin County, Nebraska, Frank is a veterinarian, 37, with Hazel E. 31.

August 1941 "Dr. and Mrs. Frank Maxwell of Georgetown, Colorado came to Craig and spent the week-end visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wynn G. Richards. They returned home Sunday. Mrs. Maxwell is a sister of Mr. Richards."

Hazel Edith Maxwell, born May 4, 1892, died in Waco, Texas on June 13, 1979, to be buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Waco.
She's # 129868013, buried with Frank Jay Maxwell 1892-1976.

RAY

Ray W. Richards, 24, born at Ute, Iowa, married Mildred Triplett on January 2, 1913 in Harrison County, Iowa.

In 1920 Wray, Roy is a salesman at a hardware store.

Ray died May 12, 1930 in Wray. He's in the same lot as his parents.

FLORA

Flora, 22 and Mont McGinnis 26, married in Wray on May 11, 1916.


In 1920 Yuma County, Mont is farming, 30, born in Colorado, with Flora 25 and Marvel 2.

They're still farming in 1930 and 1940 Yuma County. Marvel is a typist for the AAA in 1940.


Flora J. McGinnis died on April 14, 1978 in Dallas, Texas, to be buried in Restland cemetery. The informant was Mrs. Marvel Roe, daughter.

Marvel married Jesse Roe in Yuma County on June 21, 1941. She died June 29, 2001.
She's buried in Restland, Dallas, Texas # 49609413, with Jesse E. 1911-1996 # 49609423.

Jesse Roe dies Saturday noon
Rites are Monday
Funeral services for Jesse Nelson Roe, a long-time resident of Wray and a highly regarded citizen of this community, were held at the Christian Church, Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev earl R Sadaden. Burial followed in Grandview cemetery. the Lockwood Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
Jesse Nelson Roe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E Roe, was born in Jewel County, Kansas near Mankato, on Fegruary 6, 1881. There he grew to manhood with his brothers, Carl and Henry and a sister, Mary. As a young man, Jesse Roe took his stand for Christ uniting with a congregation in his home community.
On February 25, 1902, Jesse Nelson Roe was united in marriage to Lula Westfall in Superior, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three sons: Jesse Jr, no of Washington DC, Archie, now of Boulder and Floyd who passed away in infancy. In 1904, the Roes came to Colorado and in August 1911, Mrs Lula Roe was taken by death.
On June 11, 1945, Jesse Roe was united in marriage to Elsie M. Yates at the church parsonage at St. Francis, Kansas.
Mr. Roe has been unwell for some two years and critically ill the past six months. Saturday noon, November 10, 1956 he departed this life at the age of 75 years nine months and four days.
He is survived by his Wife, Elsie, two sons, Jesse Jr and Archie, one brother, Carl now of Colorado Springs and one grandson, Michael Roe, Washington, DC.
Jesse Roe's outstanding characteristics were mentioned as a good neighbor and loyalty to the high ideals of honesty and helpfulness.
