Jacob I. and Annie E. (Bartels) Nicholson, Wray

In 1865 Nemaha County, Kansas, Jacob Nicholson and Anne E. are both 40, Hezekiah 19, Elizabeth A. 16, George E. 14, Sarah J. 9, John G. 6, Martha A. 4, and J.I newborn.

In 1880 Nemaha County, Kansas, Jacob and A.E. Nicholson are both 55, Sarah J. 24, Alice 19, and J.I. 16.

Anna is in Hancock County, Illinois in 1880, 12, with parents Henry 38 born in Prussia and Alice E. born in Indiana. William H. is 10, Herman 8, and Alice M. 1, all four born in Illinois. Henry's brother William H. 32 and mother Christina 69 were also born in Prussia.

In 1905 Lane County, Kansas, Jacob is 41, Anna 37, Pearl 16, Otto 12, Mabel 9, and Guy 7.
In 1910 Harlan County, Nebraska, Jacob Nicholson is 47, born in Kansas, married 22 years to Annie 41 Illinois. Pearl 21 and Otto 17 were born in ansas, Mabel 14 and Guy 12 in Oregon.

October 1910 "J. I. Nicholson of Orleans, Nebraska, was in Wray Wednesday with a view of locating here. He has traded for the F. T. Hawks improvements north of town and filed on a homestead. He will move his family there in the near future. We welcome Mr. Nicholson and family to Yuma county, and trust their future success may equal all they plan for it."

November 25, 1910 "J. I. Nicholson and family departed this week for Wray, Colorado, where they will make their future home on a farm about 1 1/2 miles north of that city. Mr. Nicholson departed Tuesday night with his goods and the fomlly followed yesterday. The above family have been residents of this place for about five years and have many friends who regret their leaving, but by Orleans loss Wray gains a family of good, honest, enterprising citizens. — Orleans Chronicle"

March 1911 "Miss Pearl Nicholson, who has been a successful teacher near Oxford, Nebraska, the past year, has closed her school and returned to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Nicholson, north of town."

December 1913

April 9, 1914 "Mrs. J. I. Nicholson of north of town, was called to Ness City, Kansas, the latter part of last week on account of the serious illness of her father who had been ill but a few days. Her father died last Saturday morning and a few hours afterwards, her grandmother who had been sick for a long time, and whom Miss Pearl Nicholson had been caring for the past six months, also died."
This is Henry Bartels 1842-1914 buried in Ness City # 36971553, with Alice 1850-1937 # 36971552.

December 1915

Jacob proved up on 320 acres in sections 29 and 30, 2N 43W in 1916 - about two miles north of Wray. His witnesses were John L. Dalrymple, George Short, Albert Nelson and John Gartgen, all of Wray.

February 22, 1917 "Guy Nicholson, north of town, celebrated his 10th birthday last Monday evening by entertaining a company of his friends at his home at various games, music and refreshments. Those present were: Misses Marguerite Keilman, Alice Reed and Irene Nelson, and Messrs. Ira Nelson and Alwyn Hawks, and each report having had a most enjoyable evening. Guy was assisted by his parents and sister, Miss Pearl."

May 1917 "Mrs. J. I. Nicholson of two miles northeast of Wray, was taken seriously ill the last of the week, but is reported to be somewhat improved at the present time. Mrs. Lloyd Jones, her daughter, is staying with her mother at this time."

August 1917 "Mrs. Alice Bartells, who has been here since last May visiting her daughter, Mrs. J. I. Nicholson, north of town, left yesterday for her home at Ness City, Kansas, she going by way of Denver ."

October 1917 "Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bowers and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mason, all of St. Francis, Kansas, were guests of Mrs. Mason's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Nicholson, of north of Wray, last Sunday."

August 1919 "The J. I. Nicholson farm was traded last week to Mrs. Cross. Mr. Nicholson will hold a public auction sale next week."

April 1922 "Guy Nicholson returned Sunday from Orleans, Neb., after a short visit in that city."

MABEL

June 30, 1911 "A large company of the friends of Miss Mabel Nicholson, who resides north of town about two miles, both from the surrounding country and from Wray, assembled at her home last Saturday evening and reminded the young lady that it was her sixteenth birthday. She had been aware of the day, but not of the company that was coming, all of which made it more pleasant and agreeable. A jolly time was enjoyed by all, and Miss Mabel was made the recipient of a number of handsome and useful presents as a momento of the occasion. Refreshments were served."

Mabel (Nicholson) Mason 1895-1983 is buried in Warren, Oregon # 43264187, with Lewis Hartman Mason 1892-1948.
PEARL

December 1910 "Miss Pearl Nicholson, who is a teacher at Oxford, Nebraska, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Nicholson, north of town."

January 6, 1911 "Miss Pearl Nicholson, who was visiting her parents north of town, returned to her school work at Oxford, Nebraska, the first of the week."

July 1913 "Miss Pearl Nicholson, assistant in the post office, is taking her vacation, beginning with the first of the week. Mrs. Roy Pratt is taking her place during her absence."

March 1, 1917

Pearl Alice (Nicholson) Jones 1889-1950 is buried in Wray # 47590536, with Lloyd Watson Jones 1876-1938.

In 1920 Otto 26 and Jeanne 21 are in Everett, Washington.

Jeanne applied for naturalization in 1924, born Jeanne Sibille born at Blaye, Gironde, France on July 31, 1897, marrying Otto on May 19, 1919 in Blaye.

In 1930 Great Falls, Montana, Otto is a railway agent 37, with Jeanne 32 born in France.

They're still in Great Falls in 1940, with Otto born in Colorado on this census. Jeanne is 42.

Otto Nicholson 1893-1950 is buried in Great Falls, Montana # 36557762.

Jeanne Nicholson 62, married John F. Evans in San Bernardino, California on Febraury 26k, 1960.

GUY

1917

August 1922 Wray "Guy Nicholson left Sunday for McCook, where he has accepted a position on the railroad."

In 1930 McCook, Nebraska, Guy E. Nicholson is a railroad fireman, 32, born in Oregon, with F. Eva 32 born in Kansas. Her sister N. Faye Balzier 20 born in Nebraska is with them, a photographer.

In 1940 McCook, Guy 40 and Frances 48 have W.E. Balzier 78 with them.
William Ellsworth Blazier 1862-1952 is buried in Furnas County # 16144869.
So is Elizabeth Ann (Farr) Blazier 1869-1931 # 16145076.

Eva and Nancy were in Chase County, Nebraska in 1910, with William E. 48 and Elizaabeth 39. Eva 22, Clarence 18, William 9, Clifford 5, and newborn Nancy.

Nancy F. Scott, 29 and Chester Scott 32 are in Portland, Oregon in 19140.

Nancy Faye Scott born April 15, 1910 in Nebraska, father Blazier, mother Farr, died January 21, 1981 in Los ANgeles County.

One tree said Guy Ernest Nicholson died December 6, 1967.
He was buried in Memorial Park cemetery, McCook, on December 8, 967
Block 9, Row 16, Lot 85, space 1.
Eva, born June 30, 1888, died October 1982, last residence McCook, Nebraska.
She was buried October 12, 1982 in McCook next to Guy.

August 1914 "Miss Mate Nicholson arrived Thursday morning from her home in Sulphur, Okla., and is visiting her uncle, R. N. Nicholson, and family of north of town. She expects to be here for two weeks."
