Hugh J. and Edith (Guy) McKee, Wray
In 1860 Ottumwa, Iowa, Thomas Guy is 45, Elisabeth A. 36, both born in Pennsylvania. Mary E. 14 was b orn in Iowa, Sarah A. 10, harmony H. 8, Editth 6, and Emma 1 were born in Illinois.

In 1870 Lancaster County, Nebraska, Thomas Guy is farming, 56, with Elizabeth 47, both born in Pennsylvania, Minnie 18, Edith 16, and Emma 11 all born in Illinois.

Thomas # 11498577 is buried in Broken Bow, Nebraska " Thomas Guy was the son of Samuel Guy and Elizabeth Sanderson Guy. He married Elizabeth Ann Dredge in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, daughter of, Henry Wilson Dredge and Elizabeth. They moved west and settled in Broken Bow, Custer County, Nebraska. Their children are Mary E., Sarah Ann, Harmony H., Edith and Emma Guy.

OBITUARY; Thomas Guy was born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, Mar 9, 1814, and died Jan 27, 1893, age 78 years, 10 months and 13 days. He died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Chapel, where he was favored with the utmost care during his four weeks' sickness. He was married to Elizabeth Anne Dredge, June 3, 1843, and to them were born eight children. Five preceded their father to the better land. Mr. Guy moved his family to Nebraska twenty-six years ago, and to Broken Bow, Nebraska, in the year of 1888. He was a member of the U. B. church, had a clear experience and strong faith in the Lord, which was emphasized by a consistent christian walk. He lived for God, and died in faith and peace. He leaves a widow, three children, fifteen grand children and two great grand children."

H.J. McKee, 44, born in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, married Edith Guy, 17, on March 14, 1872 in Lancaster County, Nebraska.

Hugh J. McKee was a Senior Steward of the Masonic lodge # 60 in Orleans, Harlan County, Nebraska in 1882.
"H. J. McKEE, postmaster, was born in Brookville, Jefferson Co., Pa., in 1828; here he followed lumbering for four years, and at twenty-four years of age went to California, and was for fourteen years engaged in mining on the Pacific slope, and subsequently returned to his home in Pennsylvania, where he remained for a time. He came to Harlan County, Neb., in November, 1873, and located at Melrose, where he was engaged in general merchandise business, until fall of 1875. He was appointed Postmaster at Melrose in 1874, in 1877 he came to Orleans and was appointed Postmaster of this place in January, 1878, in connection with which he carries a stock of confectionery, stationery, etc. He was elected County Commissioner in the fall of 1874 for a term of three years."

In 1880 Harlan County, Nebraska, Hugh J. Mckee is 54, occupation "P.M.", with Edith 27, both born in Pennsylvania. Lizzie Pierce 5, born in Nebraska is living with them.

Hugh is postmaster in 1885 Harlan County, 57, with Edith 30, both born in Pennsylvania.



George R. Nunamaker is a member of the Wray Lodge # 71, of the Masonic Grand Lodge in 1888,. OWikliff Newell, Wailliam R. Hays and Charles Kurta were officers. Other members were Rankin Smith, James N. Counter, Frank Dalrymple, Jonas R. Ruwalt, Albert W. Horn, Charles Henry Thomas, Hugh J. McKee, Daniel A. Murdock, Harry S. George, David Sisson John Blust, Henry C. Hoagland, Alonzo M. Costo, and Lesis D. Harry.

Hugh J. McKee and Edith McKee divorced in Yuma County on December 8, 1891.

Hugh cash-claimed 160 acres in sections 6, 1N 43W and 31, 2N 43W in 1890. This was just north of Wycliff Newell's claim so it would be the high sandhill north of the railroad depot in Wray.

He might be the Hugh J. McKee in 1900 Broadwater County, Montana, born November 1828 in Pennsylvania, a placer miner, widowed. Andrew Michelson 38 born in Norway is boarding with him.

Edith Guy married Eugene L. Hitchings in Yuma County on May 25, 1892, dying in Fort Morgan, Coloardo.

June 7, 1895 "The sufferings of Mrs. E. F. Hitchings reached an end at about eight o'clock last evening, when she sank into that sleep that knows no waking. Mrs. Hitchings has been sick for more than two months, and from the very first it has been of an alarming and dangerous kind. About a month since her mind be«ame affected, since which she has been no more than partially conscious the greater part of the time. During their residence of six or more months among us, Mr. and Mrs. Hitchings have made many friends, the deceased lady taking an active part in all social doings, and a great favorite by reason of her unvarying cheerfulness and winning ways, and it need not be said that the sympathy of ail of their acquaintance go out to the bereaved husband in the great affliction that has come to him.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30, and the body interred at Riverside cemetery."

July 1895 Fort Morgan Colorado "The mother of Eugene Hitchings, who has bfeen spending some weeks with her son, left for her home at Wray yesterday. Mrs. Hitchings made many friends during her stay among us, and all hope she will come again soon."

Edith Hitchings had a case in 1895 in Morgan County Colorado probate court.

Eugene is single in 1900 Wray, a painter born May 1853 in Maine, living on Chief Street with his parents Edward 79 and Nancy S. 73 and brother Roccos 47, all born in Maine.

July 4, 1902 "Gene Hitchings did some artistic sign painting on the Emigrant barn last week"

One tree said Eugene, born May 17, 1855 in Potsdam, New York, died April 9, 1914 in Pomona, California.
ANOTHER HUGH McKEE FROM ILLINOIS IN NEBRASKA
There's a Hugh McKee in Livingston County, Illinois in 1860, farming, 37, with Jemima 36, both born in Pennsylvania. Wm. H. is 11, Linn 9, both born in Pennsylvania, and Henrietta 5 in Illinois.
"April 3, 1859 - the first communion was held. Mr. Skinner's stay was brief, making his home alternately with Hugh McKee and Caleb Patton. On the 30th of April, Hugh McKee was accepted for baptism, and Ephraim Hanna on May 14th, and both were bap­tized on the same day. In two weeks. Jemima McKee followed her husband in baptism"

In 1870 Hugh and "Gemima" are both 47, Wm. Henry 21, Andrew L. 19, all four born in Pennsylvania, Henrietta 15 and Olive V. 9 in Illinois.

In 1880 Livingston County, Illinois, Hugh is 57, Jemima 56, Oliver 19, with W.C. Fowler, grandson 5 born in Illinois. Willie Hopkins is a laborer, 17, born in ILlinois, and adopted daughter Effie Hopkins is 14, born in Illinois.

Jemima Ann (Lynn) McKee 1823-1891 is buried in Livingston County, # 101812430, with Hugh McKee 1823-1915 # 101812400.
So is Olive V. McKee 1861-1942 # 1011812447.


November 1891 Bloomington Illinois "The announcement Wednesday morning that Mrs. Jimina McKee, the wife of Mr. Hugh McKee, had quietly passed away the previous night at the family residence in the southern part of the city, was received with sorrow by every one. Mrs. McKee and her husband had resided here since 1853. The funeral services occurred at the Baptist Church, of which she has been one of the foremost and devoted female members since its organization, Thursday, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. J. Coker, the pastor, conducted the ceremony, assisted by Elder O.D. Merritt. A large congregation of friends followed the remains to their last resting place in the city cemetery. A husband, one son and two daughters are left to mourn over her death."

Ollie McKee, daughter is a school teacher born March 1860 in Illinois, son Lynn April 1850 in Pennsylvania is farming, married to Florence April 1853 in Illinois and two daughters both born in Illinois.

March 1910 Bloomington, Illinois "Hugh McKee, of Falrbury, reached the 87th anniversary of his birth March 8. He came to this state fifty-eight years ago from Pennsylvania"

October 1911 Bloomington, Illinois "Hugh McKee and daughter, Miss Olive, returned home from Chicago Thursday"

October 1913 "Hugh McKee, who is nearly 90 years old and one of the pioneer citizens, left Monday for Chicago where he will submit to an operation for a cataract on one of his eyes, the sight of which has been impaired for some time."

In 1870 Livingston County, Frank Fowler is 21, with Cordelia Fowler 40 and Adda Fowler 13, all three born in New York.

Frank H. Fowler and Henrietta McKee married in Livingston County, Illinois on June 10, 1874.
They had William C. Fowler in Gilman, Illinois on September 27, 1875, who died in Chicago on May 20, 1952, a salesman, spouse Grace M. Fowler. He was to be buried in Greenwood cemetery, Monroe, Wisconsin. (FindaGrave # 141364899), Grace M. (Lytle) Fowler 1873-1960.

Frank H. Fowler born October 29, 1848, died June 15, 1891, buried in Gilman, Illinois (Iroquois County, # 102295188). On the same stone is Henrietta born February 29, 1855, dying January 18, 1913 # 102295228.


In 1900 Chicago, Illinois, Henrietta Fowler is 45, William 26, Alfred 23, and her cousin Amanda Wilcox is 55.

Alfred Hugh Fowler was born January 29, 1877 at Gilman Illinois, marrying Josephine Smith Bates in Chicago on June 30, 1906, and they had Hugh Franklin Fowler on December 27, 1914 in Chicago.

Alfred, a physician, died in Chicago on March 3, 1920, to be buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Chicago.

March 16, 1926 Bloomington, Illinois " L. McKee died today at a hospital in Champaign, where he had been a patient following an operation on March 3. Mr. McKee left Fairbury early in January for Hot Springs, Ark., where he received treatment, returning to Champaign about a month ago after it was found that his condition was not improved. The remains will be brought here Tuesday and funeral services will be held some time Wednesday. A. L. McKee was born In Pennsylvania, November 22, 1860, and came to Illinois with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McKee, In 1852, locating in Putnam county. In 1853 they came to Indian Grove township, residing on a farm south of Fairbury. In 1876 he married Miss Florence Crouch at Fairburyi who died about three years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Colonel Coolidge, Mrs. Ralph Kelley of Champaign: a sister, Miss Olive McKee, of Fairbury, and four grandchildren. "

July 1899 "William McKee of Fairfax, Mo., will start a ranch ten miles north of Wray. The ranch will be stocked with 150 head of cattle. The improvements are under way."

December 1899 Laird items "John Hultquist is wintering a bunch of cattle for Mr. Mckee of Wray."

1899 Wray "Squire McKee has returned from an extended visit with relatives at Crab Orchard, Neb., and other places."
