In 1900 Crawford County, Iowa, Orvil McElwain August 188, Paul January 1890, Bertha August 1894, and May McElwain July 1897 are in a separrate household, but on thes same page as his uncle Myron McElwain and his large family, The boys are at school.
In 1905 Monona County, Iowa, Orvil McElwain is with Mr. and Mrs. J.B. McElwain. Others ar Paul, Bertha, May and Della.
One tree said John Benjamin McElwain and Ella Frances Updyke had Paul Wesley McElwain on January 17, 1890 in Crawford County, Iowa.
John was in Pottawattamie County, Iowa in 1880, 15, with parents Myron 37 and Libby 36. Edwin is 13, Burtis 11, Eretus 9, Elmer 3 and Arthur 1.
In 1910 Monona County, John B. is 45, with Delana 53,
- second marriage for both, married ten years. Bertha McElwain is 16. May A. 13.
Orvil, Paul, Bertha, and May have a separate household in 1900, on the same page as grandparents Myron McElwain.
Orvil K. McElwain, 21, born in Crawford County, Iowa
to J.B. McElwain and Ella Updike, a printer, married Fay Richards, 21, born in Monona County, Iowa to E.E. Richards and Lizzie Wingate, on July 10 in Onawa, Iowa.
They had Joy Ella McElwain on February 6, 1909 in Denison, Crawford County, Iowa. In 1955 she was Joy Dorrance living at Gilman, COlorado.,
In 1910 Sioux City, Iowa, Orvil is a streetcar conductor, with Ella, both 22, and Fay 1.
Orvil Kinsman McElwain registered for WWI in Yuma County, born August 11, 1887 in Charter Oak, Iowa, a farmier with a wife and child.
June 1919 " E. E. Richards this week became
the owner of the 800 acres of land known as the Carrol farm,
four miles north of Wray. This ranch will be in charge of
Mr. Richard's son-in-law, Mont McGinnis and O. K. McElwain.
Mr. Richards now owns 1,550 acres of land all joining and
when he gets it improved and stocked will make one
of the finest ranches in this country."
Orvil, Fay, and Joy are farming in Yuma County in 1920.
Orvil proved up 120 acres in sections 17 and 20,
2N 43W in 1922.
July 1923 "Mrs. Glen Wilson and two children of Morehead, Iowa, arrived last week for a visit of about a month with
Mrs. Wilson's brother, Orvil McElwain, and family."
1923 "E. E. McElwain of Dow City, Iowa,
stopped off here a few days ago on his way home from
Boulder to visit his nephew, O. K. McElwain, and wife.
Mr. McElwain had been visiting relatives in Boulder."
(Edward E. McElwain, 96, died Dec. 9, 2008, at Redlands Community Hospital, California,
due to natural causes.
A native of Dow City, Iowa he farmed in the area for
several years before moving to Boulder, Colorado in 1943.
He lived in Yucaipa for 31 years. He retired as superintendent
for the Philip Construction Co. of Boulder, Colorado.)
In 1930 Yuma County, Orvil is 42, farming, Fay M. 41, and Joy S. 2
In 1940 Orvil and Faye, with Edward and Joy Dorrance,
are farming in Boulder County. All were in Yuma County in 1935.
Orvil 1887-1970 # 60874012 and M. Fay McElwain 1888-1951 # 60874011 are buried in Longmont. On the same stone with the Dorrances.
Tempe Arizona, November 22, 1970 "TEMPE:
Services and burial for Orvil K. McElwain, 83, a retired farmer,
will be in Longmont, Colo. Mr. McElwain, 1815 Shafer Drive,
died yesterday in Phoenix General Hospital.
He was born in Crawford County, Iowa, and came here 10 years ago.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Joy Dorrance of Tempe;
one brother and one sister out of state; and one grandchild."
Joy E. Dorrance is buried in Longmont, Colorado 1909-1995 # 60880616.
with Edward 1910-1989 # 60880615.
