John Pilkington, 19, married Margaret E. Higby, 22, in Kenton, Kentucky on December 122, 1867
In 1870 Henry County, Iowa, John Pilkington is farming, 21 born in Pennsylvania, with Margaret 24 Kentucky. George 1, was born in Kentucky. He's next to George Pilkington 34 and Mary 32 of Pennsylvania and thier four kids born in Iowa.

In 1880 Osage County, Kansas, John is farming, 31, born in Pennsylvania, with Bertha 35 Kentucky. George is 11, born in Kentucky, Alice 9 and John 6 in Iowa, Thomas four months and Daniel four months both born in Kansas.

Alice is not the one marrying Charles E. Lovett on March 6, 1887 in Clayton County, Iowa.
She was the daughter of Frederick Pilkington.

February 1908 Burlington, Kansas " The Burlington Creamery has again changed hands, P. J. Smith &. Co., succeeding J. W. Pilkington & Co. There have been a number of changes there recently but those concerned say that the present management will no doubt continue for years to come. Mr. Pilkington, who has been with the creamery for some time, retires and has not announced just what he will do."

July 1912 Wray "John Pilkington of Waverly, Kansas, who has been visiting his son, D. W. Pilkington of eight miles north of Laird, for the past three weeks, was in Wray Monday and made this office a pleasant call. He said that when he came out here he could hardly walk across the street on account of rheumatism of the spinal nerve and muscles, but now he has no trouble whatever to walk where he wants to and the rheumatism has left him. He was also troubled with a cough and that has disappeared. He is very much pleased with this climate and country and is on a deal to buy a relinquishment north of Laird. He and his wife will move out here in about three months to make this their home.
Mr. Pilkington in the early days before the war was a printer. After the war was over he became a glass blower at which occupation he worked until thirty-eight years ago. He will visit in Loveland, Colorado, before returning home."
December 1912 Burlington, Kansas "Thomas William Pilkington. Kansas, who, with his wife and one Thomas William Pilkington died in brother, Abraham Martindale, were Peabody November ISth, 1912., The at his bedside when death came, body was taken to his old home in One brother who resides in Oklahoma Waverly for interment. He was born "

March 31, 1913 Burlington, Kansas " Mrs. Pilkington's many friends will be pleased to hear that she is quite well pleased with her new home near Wray, Colorado."

February 21, 1918 "Dan Pilkington had the misfortune to turn his auto over on the way home from Wray Saturday. His father, who was with him, had both bones of his leg broken. Dan's head was cut and he was badly bruised. The rest of the occupants escaped unhurt. Dr. Kitzmiller drove out and took the elder Mr. Pilkington to the Wray hospital."

March 23, 1922 "Grandpa and Grandma Pilkington, who have been sick, are able to be about again."

John Pilkington 1849-1929 is buried in Wray # 49869221, with Margaret E. 1845-1928, # 49869236.

There was another John Pilkington in the same area - possibly a cousin - July 26, 1915 Burlington, Kansas
"Mrs. Jennie Whitney, wife of Rev. Mark Whitney of Newton died at Newton, Kansas, and the body arrived here for interment Saturday last, accompanied by the husband, the son Edward with his wife, and brother, John Pilkington. Jennie Pilkington, the deceased, was a daughter of Thomas Pilkington and until about twenty years ago lived in the Rocky Run neighborhood east of Waverly. She was united in marriage to Mark Whitney a native of Anderson county, at Lawrence in 1390. To them was born one son, Edward, living at Dallas, Texas.
She died July 15, 1915, at Newton from sugar diabetes aged 59 years. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney have been away from here about twenty years, and owing to his calling that of an evangelist of the Nazarene church, have traveled a great deal. Many of the older residents of eastern Coffey and western Anderson will recall them as friends of other days."

J. W. Pilkington, 30, married Esther M. Noell, 29, in Coffey County on October 10, 1904.

January 28, 1907 Burlington, Kansas "Mr. and Mrs. John Pilkington are the parents of an eight pound boy born Thursday, January 24. Mr. Pilkington is the creamery man."

December 12, 1907 " John W. Pilkington was given a divorce from Esther M. Pilkington and their property was divided between them. "


1910 Burlington, Kansas "J.W. Pilkington, the owner of the Melvern creamery, was visiting his brother D. V. Pilkington and family. Her mother Mrs. Sutton of Wells ville, spent Sunday with Mrs. Pilkington.
In 1910 Burlington, Kansas, Esther is 34, born in Kansas, having two children, none living. She's divorced, living with Nancy A. Suttle 79, widowed. born in West Virginia.

August 25, 1910 "Mrs. Esther M. Pilkington was declared insane in probate court Tuesday by a commission composed of Dr. Berry and Dr. McMullen and will be taken to the hospital as soon as the necessary papers are received. She is a daughter of J. H. Noell and was formerly the wife of J. W. ...

In 1920 and 1930 Esther is a patient in Miami County, Kansas.

Ester Pilkington is in Burlington in 1940, widowed, 65, born in Kansas, in what appears to be a group home.

October 11, 1915 "The many friends of John Pilkington will be glad to learn that he has taken unto himself a wife and they are happily located at Topeka where he is running a creamery."


1916 Burlington Kansas "J. W. Pilkington has closed up his creamery west of the Katy tracks, the location being so inconvenient that he could not get enough cream to run on, and he has now taken the agency for the Beatrice Creamery and has opened up again in the Hall building on Third street. Until the close of the Kppinger special sale he will occupy the back room of the Hall building, but at the conclusion of the big sale, will have the entire room. In addition to buying cream for the Beatrice Co., Mr. Pilkington has installed his churn and a new gasoline engine and is in a position to supply the local demand for creamery butter and will also ship should circumstances warrant making enough. Mr. Pilkington says that he expects to put in his full time handling cream and that he will get his checks out as soon as the tests are made, and he also says that he will pay the very highest cash prices."

February 20, 1919 "John Pilkington Meets Instant Death
When Piece of Machinery Falls
From Wagon
Leaves Widow and Three Children
John Pilkington, prominent ranchman of the Laird neighborhood, was instantly killed Wednesday afternoon when a corn-sheller which he had loaded in his wagon fell from the wagon, and crushed Pilkington to death.
The exact cause of the accident is not known. It is believed Pilkington loaded the sheller into the wagon and as he drove around a hay-stack, with the intention of there loading a gas engine, the sheller tipped and fell upon him. Shortly after the accident E. E. Richards went to the Pilkington ranch and prepared the body for burial. Interment was had in the Laird cemetery. Deceased is survived by the widow, three children, his parents, two brothers and a sister. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved family in their irreparable loss."

George W. Pilkington, 27, married Zilla M. Giffin in Coffey County, Kansas on December 25, 1895.

In 1900 Coffey County, Kansas, George is 31, married four years to Zilla M. 26. They have Rose M. 2.

In 1910 Coffey County, George is 40, Zillie M. 36, Marie 12, Ruby L. 9, Ella M. 6, Charles W. 3, and Harold W. 1.

March 1911 Burlington, Kansas "The good people of Waverly have been greatly worked up for several days over a disgraceful crime attempted there by Harry Jeffries who attempted a criminal assault on his 12-year old sister-in-law Daisy Kline of Agricola. Jeffries went to Agricola and told the girl's parents he wanted her to stay with his wife, her sister while he went to Garnett to hunt a job. He then took the girl to a vacant house in Waverly and attacked her. Her screams were heard by George Pilkington, who yelled at them, thinking it was some children playing. The girl started to run away but was recaptured by Jeffries who again attacked her and then when she screamed again. Pilkington went over to see what was happenings and Jeffries ran away. Jeffries has hid out and a warrant has been issued for him. The people of Waverly have chipped in and offered a reward for Jeffries' capture and if any one else wants to contribute, Tom Happy of Waverly will receive the subscription. Such crimes as the one attempted by Jeffries are very rare in Coffey county and the people would all be glad to assist in his capture and in seeing him punished according to law."

September 1922 " George and Dan Pilkington families spent Sunday at the Grandpa Pilkington home. "

September 1922 Ella Pilkington, who has been confined to her hom e on account of sickness, is improving and will soon be able to resume her studies at the high sdiool.

She was in Vernon in 1920, 8, with William A. Wages 32 and Bessie 30 and eight kids.

William Abraham Wages is buried in Wray 1887-1947 # 60997682, with Bessie E. 1889-1945 # 60997580.

In 1930 Yuma County, Harold is 21, farming, with Pauline M. 18 born in Iowa.

In 1940 Summit County, Colorado, Harold is a motor mechanic, 21(should be 31), Pauline 28, with Harold B. 9 and Lena M. . All were in Yuma County in 1935.

One tree said Pauline died April 7, 1993 in Colorado Springs. "Harold D. Pilkington, Loveland. Born February 8, 1934, died March 30, 2003. Husband of Mary Pilkington, father of Tim (Angie) and Anthony (Lynn)."

December 19, 1912 Lawrence, Kansas "Mrs. Mollie Pinkngton and two children of Laird, Colorado, are spending a few days with her mother and brothers, Mrs. Jane Sutton, Hert and Pockie Sutton."

Daniel proved up 320 acres in sections 18 and 19, 3N 42W in 1916.

In 1914 Guy Cadwallader was a witness for this claim.

In 1920 Yuma County, Dan is farming, 40, Mollie M. 36, Webster S. 14, Claude W. 12, Alice M. 4 and Wauneta M. newborn.

February 1922 "Dan Pilkington of this neighborhood was taken Saturday morning to the Mercy hospital in Denver to have an x-ray examination made of his injuries which he received some two weeks ago in an automobile accident, breaking several bones and bruising him up in several places on his body. Grandpa Pilkington accompanied him to Denver."

March 1922 "John Wagner spent Saturday night at the D. W. Pilkington home caring for Mr. Pilkington. D. W. Pilkington has been suffering severely with pleurisy the past week."

December 1922 "The D. W. Pilkington family spent Sunday at the home of Grandpa Pilkington. "


1923 "D. W. Pilkington and family and Mildred Wagner were Sunday visitors at the home of Chas. Bourne."

In 1930 Yuma County, Daniel W. is 50, farming, with Mollie M. 46 born in Kansas. Alice M. is 12, Myrtole N. 11.

Dan and Mollie are alone in 1940 Yuma County, farming.

They're buried in Wray. Daniel 1880-1945 # 62630649, and Mollie May (Sutton) Pilkington 1884-1955 # 62630663.

Webster Sutton Pilkington 1905-1975 is buried in Wray # 48950339, with Beulah I. (Garner) Pilkington 1910-2009.
Their daughter Carol Faye Pilkington 1939-1941 is buried in Wray.

Connie R. Pilkington Haselbush 1949-1993 is buried in Estes Park, Colorado # 15851088.
Marjorie Fern Deines, 65, of Fleming, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at home.
The funeral was held today,Sept. 7, at Fleming United Methodist Church. Pastor Tom Peacock officiated. Burial was at Fleming Cemetery.
Mrs. Deines was born to Webster and Beulah (Garner)Pilkington on Oct. 12, 1933 in Laird. She graduated from Laird High School in 1951.
Following high school, she was employed by Mountain Bell Telephone Co.
She married Ralph Deines on Aug. 12, 1952. They moved to Fort Collins where her husband attended CSU. Upon his graduation, they moved to Fleming. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her mother, Beulah Pilkington her husband, Ralph Deines of Fleming; two daughters, Darcie Stine and husband Randy of Aurora, Beverly Young and husband Brad of Holyoke; two sons, Robert Deines and wife Jana of Sidney, Neb., David Deines and wife Lora of Peetz; two brothers, Dwayne Pilkington of Sterling, Willard Pilkington of Longmont; one sister, Iriene Bostick of Fort Collins; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her father; two sisters, Carol Faye Pilkington and Connie Haselbush; and one grandson, Matthew Paul Stine.M

Willard E. Pilkington of Longmont, died March 14, 2013 at his residence. He was 83.
Willard was born on December 6, 1929, Laird, Colorado to Webster Pilkington and Beulah Garner Pilkington. Raised in northeastern Colorado, he graduated from Laird High School, 1947.
Willard married Alice Anne Devlin at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Wray, Colorado on January 5, 1948. They spent time in Laird, Wray, and Akron, Colorado, before moving to Longmont in 1956.
Willard worked as an accountant with IBM in the Longmont/Boulder plant before being transferred to North Carolina. Upon his retirement with IBM, he and Alice Anne returned to Longmont.
Willard and Alice Anne were active with both St. John the Baptist and St. Francis of Assissi Catholic Churches. His faith was an important, integral part of his daily life and routine. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Willard enjoyed working in his rose garden, playing golf, and cards with family and friends. Some of his favorite pastimes with the family included fishing and camping. He love family get-togethers and could always be counted on to bring his dry sense of humor. He volunteered along side his wife with the council of Catholic Women and they were facilitators of Centering Prayer workshops with Contemplative Outreach for over 20 years.
Preceding him in death are: his son, Ronald, three sisters, Carol Faye Pilkington, Connie Haselbush and Fern Deines, two grandchildren, Emily Pilkington and Evan Pilkington.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Anne, Longmont; ten children, Andrew (Victoria) Pilkington, Colorado and Oregon; Anna Mary (Leland) Platt, Longmont; Theresa (Richard) Morison, Longmont; James Pilkington, San Diego, California; V. Mark (Karen) Pilkington, Berthoud; Leo (Tammy) Pilkington, Yuma, Arizona; Judith (Rob) Orbanosky, Longmont; Christopher (Julie) Pilkington, Yuma, Arizona; Louis (Denise) Pilkington, Westminster; and Brian (Angie) Pilkington, Harrisburg, North Carolina; 23 grandchildren: Nora Peterson, Daniel Pilkington, Jessie Pilkington, Jacob Morison, Jennifer Morison, Jonathan Morison, Drew Pilkington, Adam Pilkington, Jerry Lacoco, Thomas Pilkington, Dominic Pilkington, Mary Clare Pilkington, Sarah Wesseling, Michelle Pilkington, Mary Parker, Hannah Orbanosky, Melissa Sellers, Michael Pilkington, Katie Pilkington, Austin Pilkington, Devon Pilkington, Phillip Pilkington, Emily Pilkington, eight great grandchildren; Tianna Morison, Megan Guiterrez, McKenzie Pilkington, Logan Pilkington, Claire Pilkington, Quinn Sellers, Luke Pilkington, David Wesseling; his best friend, brother-in-law William DeLisle, Longmont; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his brother Dwayne (Edna) Pilkington, Sterling, CO and his sister Irene (Ray) Bostich, Ft. Collins, CO. and Ralph Deines of Fleming, CO. his brother-in-law.

Claude W. Pilkington 1907-1976 is buried in Wray # 49868950, with Elise M. (Harner) Pilkington 1908-1975.

Alice Mae (Pilkington) White 1916-1995 is buried in Yuma # 52764081, with Carson M. White 1913-1988.

Myrtle Pilkington maried Roland L. White on April 2, 1935 in Yuma County.

Myrtle Wauneta (Pilkington) White 1919-1994 is buried in Yuma, # 52765404, with Roland Leeve White 1914-2004.
