William J. and Stella (Watson) Gibbs

In 1860 Allamakee County, Iowa, Samuel Gibbs is farming, 38, born in Massachusetts, with Mary J. 33 New York. Sandford R. is 15 born in I Ohio, Harriet M. 13 inand Watson J. 8 in Iowa.
Samuel 1820-1895, # 137108009, and Mary Jane (Archer) Gibbs 1825-1863 died in Allamakee County, Makee Township Cemeter # 48225712.

In 1880 Harlan County, Nebraska, A. C. Watson is 51, born in Ohio, Emeline 46 in New York, B.A. 18, Ida 16, STELLA 14 in Ohio, Curtis 12, Morgan 7, Mary 3, and A.C. Jr. six months.

Watson J. Gibbs is in Harlan County in 1880, 28 born in Illinois?, a servant for the John Preston 45 farming family.

Emeoline Watson 1834-1913 is buried in Custer County, Nebraska # 58847954, with Ambrose 1828-1907 # 58847952, and their son Curtis 1868-1963 # 58847953.
In 1900 Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska, Wm. J. is a grain dealer born Nov 1852 in Wisconsin, father Massachusetts, mother Ohio. Stella July 1865, married 17 years has had four kids, three living. Homer June 1885, Guy April 1887, and Eva January 1893 wre born in Nebraska.

April 11, 1902 Wray "Mr. Gibb, who has charge of the Ferguson elevator, expects his family from Geneva, Nebraska, in a few days. They will locate here indefinitely. Mr. Gibb has a wife an, two sons and a little daughter. We are glad to welcome them to our midst."

April 1905 "Mrs. W. J. Gibb and daughter, Eva, are home from Missouri." (her parents had moved from Nebraska to Missouri)

May 4, 1906 "A. C. Watson and wife, of Knobnoster, Mo., arrived Sunday, to make an extended visit with their daughter, Mrs. W. J. Gibbs. Mr. Watson reports that crops are at a standstill in Missouri from lack of rain."

August 16, 1907 "Mrs. Hays and children, of Washington, arrived here last Saturday evening to visit her sister, Mrs. W. J. Gibbs."



In 1910 "Watson" J. Gibbs is 57, a grain buyer in Yuma, (his second marriage, Stella's first) Stella M. Gibbs 44 a milliner, with Eva J. 17.

April 1910 Yuma "Mrs W. J. Gibbs this week moved her millinery stock to Stanford, Nebraska, where she will go into business."

May 26, 1911 "W. J. Gibb, the popular Yuma grain buyer, was visiting friends and doing shopping in Wray last Saturday."

March 15, 1918 "His many friends will be sorry to learn that W. J. Gibbs is seriously ill. He is being cared for at the Yuma hospital."

March 21, 1918 "Word was received in Wray the first of the week of the death of W. J. Gibbs, that occurred at Yuma last Sunday. Mr. Gibbs was formerly a resident of Wray, having operated the west elevator about thirteen years ago."

In 1920 Denver, Stella is widowed, 54, living in the same building as daughter Eva Lockard and her husband Sanford, who live with his parents Benjamin and Mary Lockard.

She's with them in 1940 Youngstown Ohio,74, with Sanford and Eva both 47.

Stella died at home in Youngstown, Ohio, on April 14, 1958, age 92

GUY

Guy S. Gibbs married Essie Lewis on January 15, 1905 in Alma Nebraska. She was the adopted daughter of James Vaugher.

March 23, 1906 "Last Wednesday, Guy Gibbs, who has for the pasy three months conducted the restaurant near the B & M. tracks, closed up his business. He is now disposing of the furniture. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs expect to leave soon for Alma, Nebraska, where they will make their home."

April 27, 1906 "An 8 1/2 pound girl was borne to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Gibbs last week, and Grandpa Gibbs, manager of tho west elevator, immediately shoved the price of grain up a notch."

December 27, 1907 Wray " Guy Gibbs and Jeff Grant have opened a tailor shop in the room just south of the City Market, and are prepared to take orders for tailor-made clothing and clean and press all the clothes brought to their place of business."

July 1910 Yuma

Guy is in the 1910 Hastings, Nebraska, census, 22, a laborer for a gas manufacturer, married five years to Bessie, 24. She's had two kids, one living. Orcelia is 4, born in Nebraska.

November 1919 Yuma "Mrs. Guy Gibbs and daughter Orcellia, left Monday for Holdredge, Nebraska, where they will make their future home.""

July 1917 Yuma "W. J. Gibbs received a letter this week from his son, Guy S. Gibbs, stating that the young man had enlisted in Califronia and had been assisned to the signal corps."

Guy registered for WWI in Oakland, California, born April 29, 1887 at Brownfield, Nebraska, a carriage painter for the Chevrolet Motor Company factory of Oakland. He said he was married.

Guy is divorced in 1920 Los Angeles, 33, in a lodging house.

In 1930 he's unemployed, 42, living with sister Eva J. Lockard and Sanford B. Lockard, both 37.

He died in Los Angeles County June 19, 1934, age 47.

Orcelia Gibbs, 19, married Everette Lee Harris on March 3, 1924 in Littleton, COlorado.

In 1930 Denver, Everett is a collector, 25, Orcelia 23, with Betty 5. Her mother Essie 44 is divorced, a tailoress, and Sanford Gibbs, 11, born in Omaha is with them.
They divorced in Denver on July 27, 1933.

Sanford W. Gibbs 1919-2013 is buried in Mount Olivet cemetery, Wheat Ridge # 13163213., with Eva K. (Vecchia0 Gibbs 1923-2010.

In 1940 Denver, Essie S. Gibbs is 54, widowed, with Sanford W. 21 born in Nebraska. Orcelia M. Harris 33 is divorced with daughter Betty L. 15 born in Colorado.

Orcelia Marie Goodfellow, 96, died April 23, 2002 in Missoula, Montana.
"Orcelia M. "Doody" Goodfellow, 96, of Missoula, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes.
She was born April 18, 1906, in Wray, Colo.
Doody will be missed every day by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and George Hanel of Missoula; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
At Doody's request, no services will be held.
Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory

HOMER

June 26, 1903 "On Tuesday evening of this week a pleasant surprise was given Homer Gibbs, it being his eighteenth birthday. The evening was spent in games and about eleven o'clock dainty refreshments were served. Those present were the Misses Alta Salisbury, Vickie Finn, Carrie Staininger, Ruby Loring, Bettie Lepper and Mr. Guy Spooner. All reported a very pleasant time ."

February 26, 1904 "Married at McCook Nebraska on Saturday February 20, 1904, Mr. Homer Gibbs and Miss Vickie Finn both of this place. It is the intention of the young couple to reside in Wray after Mr. Gibbs finishes a business course which he is now taking in Omaha."
Vickie was in Wray in 1900, born January 1887 in ILlinois. Jack S. Finnis 52 a day laborer born in Kentucky, Catherine L. 50 a dress maker born in Tennessee. Lizzie 23, Flora 18, Molly M. 16 were also born in Illinois, Ottos D. Sept 1889 in Colorado.
In 1910 she's in McCook, Nebraska, now married to Ota Tosh, both 23 born in Illinois. This is Vistoria's second marriage, two years.

June 9, 1911 "It is reported that Homer Gibbs, son of W. J. Gibbs of Yuma, and formerly of this city, was killed in one of the battles during the Mexican rebellion, he having joined the insurgents early in the beginning of the trouble. — Wray Gazette. It's not true, brother, as Homer is at present in Hot Springs, Ark., and very much alive."

November 2, 1911 "Word was received Monday evening to the effect that Homer Gibbs, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Gibbs of Yuma, died Monday evening at a hospital in Denver. He has been ailing for some time with Brights disease and was taken to the hospital four days before he died. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of their many friends in Wray and vicinity."

Homer O. Gibbs 1885-1911 is buried in Denver # 33228326.

EVA

March 8, 1917

Fred Rosenstock wrote about Denver "To complete my directory of booksellers of the time, there was a store at Fifteenth and Tremont called the Old Colony Book Store. It was run by young Sanford Lockard and his wifea very personable young couple. I believe Sanford is still alive in Youngstown, Ohio. That store-or I should say that locationbecame eventually my second bookstore, which I started in 1928 and renamed the Bargain Book Store. "
