Services for Clarence Ellsworth Adams, 86, a cowboy in western Nebraska in early life and an Omaha barber for many years were held Monday. His death was a fortnight after the Adams' sixty-third wedding anniversary. Born in Osceola, Iowa, he went with his parents to a homestead near Oxford, Neb., in 1873. For years he rode the range, making acquaintances of James C. (Cowboy Jim) Dahlman, later Omaha's Mayor, and other old west figures. For 25 years he operated a barber shop at Forty-second Street and Grand Avenue, until he retired when nearly 85 in December 1943. His maternal grandfather, Major Wheeler, served in the Revolution, and other ancestors in the War of 1812. His father, Henry H. Adams, served through the Civil War. His three sons-in-law were in World War I, four grandsons are in the present war, and a fifth grandson will be inducted soon. Surviving are his wife, Bertie May; one son, Frank M. Adams, and five daughters, Miss Theo Adams, Mrs. William J. Robinson, Mrs. Emmet L. Murphy, Mrs. Elmer A. Erickson, and Mrs. John H. Dennison, all of Omaha; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. |
