Allen Herbert an Joan Electa (Jordan) Names, Steffens

Joan was born Nov 5, 1878 in Clinton County, Iowa to John and Sarah Jordan.

Allen's parents were Daniel and Elizabeth Names, also from Clinton County.

In 1900 Allen is living with his parents in Clinton County, a printer.

Allen and Joan are married (seven years)  in 1910, farming in Clinton County.  She says she's had three children, two living, but none are listed here.

Allen proved up two quarters in 22, 1S 48W in 1914.

Herbert Names was on the honor roll of grades 1 and 2 of the Yuma school in April 1914.

Allen registered in Yuma County, born September 7, 1875, and was a hardware merchant - nearest relative Joan, wife.

In 1920, on Wesley Avenue in Yuma, Allen is a hardware and implement dealer.  He and Joan have Herbert Arthur 13 and Marion L. 11, both boys born in Iowa.

In 1930 Jefferson County "Allan Naames" is a gardener, with Joan, and Herbert a salesman in a radio store, and Marion a florist in a greenhouse.

In 1940 Allen and Joan are still in Jefferson County, truck farming.  Both sons are married with young children, living in Denver.

Obituary from Rocky Mountain News, Monday, July 9, 1962:

Funeral services for Allen H. Names, longtime Colorado resident, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Olinger Mortuary, Boulder st. Burial will be in Crown Hill.
Mr. Names died Saturday in Rocky Mountain Hospital. He was 86.
Born Sept. 7, 1875 in Grandmound, Iowa, he moved to Colorado in 1903 and homesteaded south of Yuma. In 1913 he entered the hardware business in Yuma and in 1921 moved to Denver where he has lived since. He lived at 3323 W. 31st ave.

Surviving are his wife Joan; two sons, Herb of Denver and Lloyd of Arvada; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Joan E. Names, Columbine Manor, Mother of M. Lloyd Names, Arvada and the late Herb Names; also survived by five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Graveside services and interment, Crown Hill Cemetery, Thursday, 2 p.m.

Obituary from Rocky Mountain News Friday 7/27/1973:

Funeral services for Herbert Arthur Names, appliance dealer, will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Olinger Mortuary, Magnolia St. Burial will be in Crown Hill.    Names, who lived at 101 Kearney St., died Wednesday in Colorado General Hospital. He was 66.

Born Sept. 20, 1906, in Grandmound, Iowa, he was reared and educated in Wheat Ridge and Denver, and attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Names worked many years for the Boot Music Co. and was later a manager  of the Charles A. Wells Radio and Appliance Shop. Still later, he opened Herb Names Inc., a retail electrical appliance shop which he operated until his death.

In 1943, Names was the unsuccessful Republican nominee for mayor of Denver.

He was married to Marie Anna Bunn Aug. 8, 1931. They were divorced in 1960, and he was married to Charlotte Riedl Sept. 10, 1961, in Denver.

Names was a member of the Denver Republican Club, Oriental Lodge 87, and El Jebel Temple. He was a 32nd degree Mason.

Surviving, besides his widow, is a son, . . .; two daughters, M. . . .; his mother, Mrs. Joan Names of Wheat Ridge; a brother, Lloyd Names of Denver, and seven grandchildren.
