One tree says Mahlong died Feb 1, 1826 in Sedalia, Missouri, Co H. 8th Iowa.
In 1880 Rus Hartman, 21, is a farm laborer living with the Milton Young family in Mahaska County.
Russell did a cash-claim of a quarter in 22, 1S 45W in 1891, and proved up a quarter next to it in 1898.
There's a R.W. Hartman in 1900 Mahaska County, Iowa, day laborer, born June 1855 in Indiana, with widowed mother Amelia May 1829 in Indiana. Brother Newton, day laborer, Feb 1853, also Indiana, is with them.
In 1910 Mahaska County Russell Hartman is living alone, age 52? born in Indiana. He's a farmer "working out"
Russell W. Hartman, Jun 19, 1855 - Jan 13, 1919 is buried in Fest Cemetery, Mahaska County.
No mention of him in the newspaper - so I'm thinking he filed Yuma County land claims and sold them immediately - very similar timing to the Mitchell claims next to his.
