Jacob L. Christie / Christy, Vernon

Rebecca Jane (Cravens) Christie is buried in Scott County ""Died when her oldest daughter was just a young girl - Ida born 2/17/1865. Married Theodore B. Christie Dec. 2, 1862.  Unmarked Grave.Rebecca was living in the 1870 census, but had passed by the 1880 census. Her 1872 year of death is purely a guess. "

Maybe his father Theodore Christie is the one in Mount Hope cemetery, Peru Indiana - 1842-1919.
 

Jacob is in 1880 Scott County, Indiana, 12, son of Theodore 41, widowed.  Sisters Ida 15 and Mary, 10.

Mary E. Christy, daughter of Theodore Christy and mother Cravens, married James W. Stark Feb 25, 1888 in Scott County.   Ida Christie and Asbury Buzzard are listed as parents of Sidney Buzzard in his June 23, 1906 marriage in Scott County.  So it seems his sisters didn't come west.

In 1885 Saline County, Nebraska Jacob Christa is 18, a farm hand for the Wm Mony family.

Jacob proved up a quarter in 35, 1S 45W in 1895.

In 1900 Jacob L. Christye is in Glendale precinct, born October 1865.

He timber-claimed a quarter in 13, 2S 45W - about six miles away - in 1900.

1902 "Mr. Jacob Christy of Vernon returned from Loveland Thursday morning."

1905 Jake "was called to Indiana.. on account of the serious illness of his father, returned Tuesday night.  He left his father somewhat improved, but still pretty sick."

1906 "J.L. Christy took his hogs to market at Wray, Tuesday."

1908 "Tom Dilke is working for Jake Christy."

1908 "Jake Christy is building a chicken house.  Jake has four old roosters and a couple of hens left."

1909 "Herschell Hutton and Will Pevler have sold two quarters of land to Jacob Christy for $2,360."

In 1910 Vernon precinct Jacob is single, farming, 53, born in Indiana, the next entry after another single farmer, Willis Soules, 53, Illinois.

In 1920 Jacob Christy is in Eckley precinct, 55, divorced.

In 1917 he sold Eert Deterts a half section "the consideration being forty dollars per acre" and foreclosed on it in 1922, $4,800 owed.

In 1930 Jake Christy is farming alone in Eckley precinct.

In 1934 he's living in section 8, 2N 46W.

In 1940 Eckley precinct he's 73, farming alone.


June 1942 Eckley items "Jake Christy has bought Art Cain's store building to use as a storage building for wheat."

1944 "Jake is located at the Lett Hotel in Yuma for the winter."

1945 "A deal took place the latter part of the week whereby Jake Christy purchased the house and tract of land on the north side of the track owned and occupied by Wray Searl."

1946 "Jake Christy returned home on the bus Saturday after three weeks at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The doctors found that Jake was suffering from high blood pressure. However, he is now improved."

J.L. Christy 1867 - 1950 is buried in the Eckley cemetery # 52879651.
