William H. Blair, Margaret Blair, Margaret Stewart, Robb

(History of Davenport and Scott County- 1910) Andrew Blair, a native of Ireland, came to America when fifteen years of age and in this country wedded Margaret A. Henry, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, who is now living in Davenport.  Captain W.A. Blair, one of the best known of the river men in the Mississippi, president of the Carnival City Packet Company, and is the eldest of seven children. In 1882 Captain Blair was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Bard.

In 1880 Delaware County, Iowa there's a Margaret A. Blair, 43, divorced, born in Maryland, with Walter 23, Anna B. 21, Wm. 19, Ralph 17, Maggie 15, Arthur L. 13, and Lizzie N. 9.

In 1880 Scott County, Iowa Ella Pinkerton is 18, a school teacher, stepdaughter to R.C. 45 and Margrette E. Stewart 37.   Other kids are Mary A. Stewart, 17, Charles W. 10, Harry S. 7, Alvin J. 1

She was one of nine teachers at the Iowa Soldiers' Orphans' Home in 1895

In 1896 she was among the group of Davenport people who attended a Presbyterian meeting in Omaha.

In 1900 Davenport, Iowa Margaret, born August 1856 in Maryland, is widowed, with William H. - a pilot (riverboat ?) Aug 1860 Illinois, single. Margaret Taylor, May1862 Massachusetts, a telephone operator, rooms with them.

George S. Johnson a florist - June 1869 and Elizabeth M. Johnson February 1871 are the next household.

Ella Pinkerton is in Davenport in 1900, born June 1864 in Pennsylvania, an employee at the Iowa Soldiers Orphans' Home.

1901 Davenport "Miss Ella Pinkerton of Davenport is spending a week with her mother, Mrs. Robt. Stewart"

William Henry Blair and Ella Pinkerton married August 28, 1902 in Davenport.  His parents were Andrew Blair and Margarette Henry, hers were William Pinkerton and Margarette Ann Wallace.

William had registered a brand in 1902, so he was in the county then.

1902   Another article said it was the son of FRANK Blair of Beecher Island

1903 Vernon program for July 4  included Reading of the Declaration of Independence by Mrs. Wm. H. Blair.

In 1905 William applied to lease all of section 36 1 South 46 West- school land -

In 1904 the Iowa Day picnic held at Leonard's grove at the head of Black Wolf creek was to include an address of welcome by Mrs. Ella Blair.

1907 "ESTRAYED  From my ranch west of Vernon, one bay mare, weight about 900 pounds, branded JW, running M - also one yearling mule, unbranded.  Any information leading to their recovery will be cheerfully rewarded.  Notify W.H. Blair, Vernon, Colorado or the Gazette, Wray."

Margaret Blair proved up a quarter in 30 1S 45W in 1908, witnesses John Gast, William H. Blair, Henry Evans, and Fred Barker, all of Vernon.

1909 "R.E. White, a brother-in-law of W.H. Blair, left for his home in Monmouth, Ill, Tuesday after a few days visit in the Blair home west of Vernon."  R.E. White married Annie B. Blair Oct 6, 1881 in Hopkinton, Delaware County, Iowa.

1909 "Mrs. Blair's mother, Mrs. M.A. Stewart, left on No. 9 for Denver, Tuesday, to visit her son Dr. J.A. Stewart for a few days."  Alvin J. Stewart, 31, Iowa, single, is a physician in 1910 Denver.

William proved up a quarter in 30 1S 45W in 1910.

1910  "Mrs. Wm. Blair, of Vernon, left for Wagon Wheel Gap, Colorado, Wednesday afternoon."

(Hot springs in this area, as well as the cool summers at its 8,500 foot elevation, made it a perfect resort area for the friends and guests of General William Jackson Palmer, president of the railroad. A rail line was extended to this spot from the end of the line in Del Norte.)

Margaret Stewart proved up a quarter in 30, 1S 45W in 1910 - next to Wm. H. Blair.  So William and Ella brought their mothers out to homestead with them.

She's probably the Margaret A. Stewart - Dec 27, 1842 - Mar 8, 1934 buried in McCausland Cemetery, Scott County Iowa - in the same cemetery is John Alvin Stewart - Aug 25, 1878 - Jan 28, 1919.

Charles W. Stewart in 1910 is in Shelby County Missouri, 40, married to Margete 45.  They have "Herald" 5, Lucile and Artile, both 3.

In 1940 Shelby County Chas. W is 60, Samantha 65, both born in Pennsylvania.  H. Artile, 23, is with them.

Margaret Samantha Stewart - 1864-1944 and Charles W. 1870-1956 are buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Shelby County. So is J. Harold 1904-1972

In 1910 Harry D. Sample is in Scott County, 37, Pennsylvania, son-in-law with Anna M. 32, Iowa   Orville M. Stewart, 3, is with them.  They're with   Meritt P and Harriett A. Barnes

Harry Sample Stewart died June 1945 and is buried in LeClaire Prairie Cemetery, Scott County.

1910 "Will Blair's sale was well attended Tuesday and everything sold for a satisfactory price."

"J.A. Southwell purchased 57 head of horses and mules from Will Blair."

"Wm Blair and wife, of the Vernon country, arrived from Davenport, Iowa Tuesday afternoon.  They report cool weather there and plenty of rain."

1911 Mrs. W.H. Blair is enjoying a visit from her brother-in-law, G.S. Johnson, of Davenport, Iowa this week. He came yesterday and will only stay a few days. (In 1900 Davenport there's a George S. Johnson, 30, married to Elizabeth M. Johnson 29- probably the Lizzie Blair in the 1880 census.  They even had a Blair Johnson in 1901)

1911 Wray "W.H. Blair had cement floors placed in his livery barn this week."

1912 "Mrs. W.H. Blair left last evening for Clarence, Missouri, where she will visit some time before joining her husband at New York City."

There's a Blair buried in the same lot in Wray as Elizabeth Van Ausdall - who lived a few miles north . She's in plot 6, the Blair in 1, so there must be someone buried in the four in-between spaces.

In 1920 Louisa County, Iowa William H. Blair is 60 Illinois, a stock farmer, Ella P. 57, Pennsylvania, , and they have Dorthy M. 7 (daughter)

In 1925 Louisa County Dorothy said she was born in Davenport, and was the adopted daughter of W. H. and Ella.  W.H. is 64, Ella 63, and Ella's mother Margaret A. Stewart, 83 is with them.  Maybe she's the Margret A. Beatty in 1880 Sullivan County  Indiana.

Dorothy in 1930 is a niece of widow Elizabeth Johnson in Davenport.  Elizabeth's daughter Eloise has married Lawrence Evans, both 26, and they're with them.

In 1930 Louisa County Wm. H. is 69, farming, Ella 57, and they both were first married at age 42 - that would be 1903.  Margaret A. Stewart, 88, born in Pennsylvania, is still with them.

William and Ella are in Davenport in 1940, and he's a realtor at age 79.

William Henry Blair - August 27, 1860 - Dec 5, 1944 and Ella (Pinkerton) Blair June 22, 1862- May 20, 1943 are buried in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.   So is Margaret Ann Blair Aug 23, 1836 - June 19, 1918.
