Arthur Rice , 1 South 43 West

Arthur proved up a quarter in 1, 1S 43W in 1892 .
Arthur H. Rice, son of John Rice and Mariah Rawson, married Ora Armstrong in Union County, Iowa February 16, 1893. She was 23, the daughter of James Armstrong and Mary Hopper.
In 1900 A.H. Rice, born March 1861 in Iowa, is married seven years to Ora, April 1870 Iowa. They have Pansy February 1892, and John October 1896.

In 1910 Laird precinct, Yuma County, Arthur H. Rice is 49, Ora E. 40, Pansy B. 16, and John F. 13, all born in Iowa.
1912 "Mrs. Arthur Rice returned Thursday evening from a two weeks visit with her daughter at Byron, Nebraska."
1913 "Miss Lona Armstrong of Scotts Bluff Nebraska, who is spending the summer with her sister, Mrs. Arthur Rice, and family of southeast of town..."
In October 1913 Miss Lona Armstrong had been assisting in the Fliesbaugh sale since its beginning.

Lona's father James Armstrong 1832-1913 is buried in Afton, Iowa # 16513610.
The Afton Iowa newspaper summaries of birth records has "May 16, 1889 Armstrong, Mrs. Harvy (dau) May 1889 Lives Wray, CO "


Arthur died in 1914, and is buried in Wray # 68945932
In 1916 "J. E. Armstrong of Scottsbluff visited with his two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Rice and Mrs. George Starns, both of southeast of Wray."
In 1920 Wray Ora, John and Mattie live next door to James A. Kimber 61, Maggie A. 60, and James B. 21.
In 1930 Wray, Ora is housekeeper to James A. Kimber 71, both widowed.
Ora died in 1951, and is also buried in Wray. 76155092 "Dtr of James & Mary (Hopper) Armstrong. Married Arthur H Rice in 1893. After his death she married James Abrams Kimber Jul 27, 1938."

JOHN
John Frank Rice registered for WWI in Wray, born October 8, 1896 at Creston, Iowa, working for James Conrad of Wray.. His nearest relative was his mother Ora.

John married Martha (Mattie) W. May 8, 1919. (the record has Mattie "Woffsinger", and it was recorded in Washington County, Colorado.)
In 1920 Yuma County, Ora E. is 49, head of the household. John F. 23 and Mattie 19, Missouri are with her.
Martha died in 1923.



Noffsinger, James W. - James W. Noffsinger, a well known farmer north of Wray [Colorado], died Wednesday, Sept 26, at the age of 59 years, 9 months and 21 days. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city, Saturday, Sept 29, conducted by Rev J.C. Strubel of the Presbyterian church. Burial took place in Grandview cemetery.
James Noffsinger was born in Nodaway county, Missouri, Dec 5, 1863. On Jan 18, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Lillie M. Thompson, and to this union 12 children were born. One daughter, Mrs Jack Rice, preceded her father in death.
Mr Noffsinger and family came to Yuma county [Colorado] in the spring of 1908 and have lived here since that time.
He leaves to mourn his departure a wife and 11 children, his mother, Mrs Mary Wheeler, of Liberty, Mo., one sister, Mrs C.C. McGinnis of near Wray, two half-brothers, C.W. Noffsinger of Wray and B.F. Wheeler of Liberty, Mo., one half-sister, Mrs. Tom Orr of Collins, Mo., and many other less near relatives. The children are: Mrs. Frank Donavan of Harrisburg, Ore., Mrs J.F. Bireley of Grand Junction, Colo., Mrs. Willard Temple of Summersville, Mo., Orville, Charlie, Ray, Tony, Homer; Hazel and Lulu Noffsinger, all of Wray, also Mrs. H.C. Funk of Wray.
The sympathy of many friends is extended the bereaved family.

In 1930 Denver, John F., a garage mechanic, 33 is married to Ruth A. 21 born in Colorado, with John F. Jr. 9, and Marjorie R. 2.
In 1937 Jack and Ruth live at 1067 Mariposa.

In 1940 Denver, Jack F. is 42, a mechanic for an auto dealer, Ruth is a shaker for a laundry, 31, Jack Jr. 19, a spray painter for an auto body shop.

In 1940 Denver there's a Marjory Rice, 12, born in Colorado "con'd" from household 1061.
Possibly the one in 2013 Denver "John Rice grew up at the top of the hill, above the small auto repair shop where he, and his late father, have been working on everything from hot rods to heaps since the mid-1950s in Denver's Barnum neighborhood. "I remember being shocked when people stopped leaving their keys in the ignition and the windows open when parking on the street," said Rice, who sports a big white beard,and hands permanently stained black by oil and grease. "Now, you can't leave your car unlocked while having a cup of coffee," he lamented. One thing hasn't changed in the decades he been fixing cars from Rice Enterprises at 4101 W. 1st Ave., is that he still cuts deals for people who can't afford a mechanic who charges as much each hour as they earn in a day. "There are a lot of poor people in this neighborhood," he says, flatly. That is one of the reason of the outpouring of support Rice has received in a zoning dispute with the City of Denver. In May, he was served with an "order to cease and desist" operating a storage yard for cars waiting repair at 115 Quitman St., a home that he owns that is adjacent to his garage. "

PANSY
Pansy Rice married Clarence Tavenner Feb 14, 1912, recorded in Yuma County.


In 1920 the census taker was confused. "Bob" R. Tavenner is 34, "Tavener P" is 26 his wife. George is 6 and Don is 3.
In 1930 Yuma County, Clarence R. Tavenner is 45, born in Kansas. Pansy B. is 36, and they have George A. 16 Colorado and Donald R. 15, both Colorado. Ella Larkins 14 born in Missouri is with them.
In 1940 the Tavenner family is in Denver. Clarence is an excavator, George a laborer in a restaurant, Donald is an excavator, and Ella Larkin is a maid in a hospital.
In 1951 Clarence is a carpenter - they live at 307 Meade. George (Dixie Sandwich Shop) also lives there.

Pansy Belle Tavenner 1894-1984 is buried in Wheat Ridge, Colorado # 94979860.
George Arthur Tavenner, born Aug 29, 1913, died Nov 1, 1993. He's buried in Wheat Ridge # 94168693

" GEORGE ARTHUR TAVENNER ~ 80, of Idaho Springs died Nov. 1 in Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge. Services were Nov. 4 in United Church in Idaho Springs.
Mr. Tavenner was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Wray. He owned and operated Hidden Valley Cafe from 1962 to 1982; he also owned G & J Cafe in Dumont and the Eat Shop in Idaho Springs. Survivors include his wife, Josephine; two stepsons, Gary Algien of Wheat Ridge and Rodney Algien of Yuma; one brother, Donald of Denver; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. "

Donald Robert Tavenner, born Aug 24, 1916, died May 15, 1999.
