In 1930 Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska, Ellis is 31, and Arthur 57 and Pearl 50 are living with him. So is Lloyd 17, born in Nebraska.
October 27, 1930 "A charge of shooting with intent to kill was to be filed this afternoon against Arthur J. Packer, 65, who on Friday atfernoon wounded three pheasant hunters from Mitchell, then gave himself up at the county jail. The complaint has been drawn by County Attorney Floyd Wright. "Charges of assault with intent drawn up Monday by County Attorney Floyd Wright against Arthur J. Packer, sixty - five, farmer, in connection with the wounding three youths of a ./// charge Monday afternoon, Sheriff Monday - F H Koenig said. Packer asked for a lawyer and Koenig obtained the services of the law firm of Elebe and Ellioep of Scottsbluff. December 1930 "Arthur J. Packer, the Mitchell farmer who late last month fired on five pheasant hunters and wounded three of them. was the Scottsbluff county insanity commission late Saturday night and ordered sent to the state asylum at Hastings. Testimony at the hearing indicated that since his imprisonment, his mental condition has been growing steadily worse. , Packer wounded the trio when they failed to hand over $25 he demanded from them because they had walked across a corner of his land. The men said they didn't have the money and Packer fired at them with a shotgun from a distance of 40 feet. Two of the hunters. Lawrence Galley and Howard Polk, each lost the sight of one eye. William Fralley, a brother of Lawrence, was shot Merlin Morrison and Walter Miller were not hit. After the shooting, Packer rushed to the courthouse at Gering and gave himself up to the sheriff. The District court had previously set today for Packer’s trial on a shooting with intent to kill. The insanity ruling, however, halted that action."

Ellis Willard Packer 1899-1972 is also buried in Larned # 114423049. "Ellis W. Packer, 73, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital, Larned, after a short illness. Born June 8, 1899, at Indianola, Colo., he married Hester Moore in 1932 at Lust, Wyo. He was a retired sheep shearer and Jived here 37 years, Survivors include the widow; daughters. Mrs. Edith Swanson, Chicago, 111.; Mrs. Martha Jackson, Independence, Mo.; brothers, Lloyd and Marshall, Portland, Ore. ; Ivan, Washington; two grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at n a.m. Saturday at the Larned Cemetery with the Rev. David E. Collins officiating."
