In 1870 Monroe County, Wisconsin, John "Failback" is 46, Kate 28, with Mary 7, Margarete 5, Christian 3, and Jeremiah 1.
In 1880 Monroe County, Wisconsin, John Fielbach is farming, 58, born in Prussia, with Catheren 39, Mary 17, Christon 13, Christina 8, Anna 7, Elisabeth 4, and William H. 1.
John 1828-1896 is buried in Codington County # 57836098
"Changed surname from Feilbach to "Filber," possibly when the family relocated to Dakota Territory in the early 1880's.
His mother Kate "Hubbard Kolegraff was born in Kellendorf, Prussia, in 1814. In 1841 he was married to Miss Mary Briggen, and in 1853 husband and wife came to America to better their fortunes in the great western hemisphere. They settled in St. Mary's Ridge, Wisconsin, and followed the occupation of farming. Following the tide of western emigration they moved to South Dakota, settling on a farm near Zells Station.
At this place Mrs. Kolegraff died 14 years ago, and since then the subject of this sketch has made his home in Cascade with his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Gross.
Two sons and two daughters survive their aged father, viz: Philip Kolegraff, Zells Station, S.D.; Adam Kolegraff, Hopesdale, N. Dak.; Mrs. Christina Gross, Cascade, and Mrs. Kate Filber, Watertown, S.D. "
John and two daughters, Katie, 15, and Mathilda (Tillie), 8, died as a result of a house fire in Watertown, South Dakota on August 20, 1896."
Probably the Christopher Filber born Dec 1866 in Wisconsin, in Codington County, South Dakota in 1900, with mother Kate Dec 1843 Germany and sister Rosa Filber May 1883 Wisconsin.
In 1907, Chris Filber of Codington County was charged with criminal assault against a De Graff, and attorney Charles H. Schull filed a civil suit for the same dispute.
In 1910 Chippewa County, Minnesota, Christ Filber, 43, born in Wisconsin, is married nine years to Ada, 37, Indiana. They have Arthur, 3, Colorado.
Chris Filber, age 50, married Mrs. Susan Filber 42, in Wray on Dec 13, 1916, performed by minister A.N. Wolff of Wray.
Chris proved up 120 acres in 19, 1S 43W in 1920.
In 1920 Laird precinct, Christ Filber is 55, born in Washington (probably Wisconsin), with Arthur 14, born in Minnesota.
Susan might be the Susan "Felber" in Fort Morgan, Colorado, a pastry cook in a hotel. She's 42, born in Missouri, married but no spouse>
Arthur K. Filber, 26, born at Denver to Chris Filber and Ada Jones, married Hazel Walters of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, May 30, 1931.
In 1932 Cedar Rapids, Arth K. (Hazel M.) is a driver for Royal Laundry, and they live at 516 14th se.
Arthur was in the 1933-1934 company roster of the C.C.C. near Bena, Minnesota.
In 1940 Denver, Arthur K. Filber is working for the YMCA, 34 and Hazel N. 35, both in Cedar Rapids in 1935. Hazel's parents George Walters 73 and Lily 69 are with them.
In 1958 Denver, Arthur (Hazel N) is employed at the US Vet's Bur, living at 1685 Oneida.
In 1922 his land was owned by the Chris Filber Estate. So Chris probably died 1920-1922 in Colorado.
