In 1870 Lancaster County, Nebraska, Lucy Seegrist is 23, Amos 22, with Lila M. eleven months.
Lucy married Angus McKinnon, went to Nebraska, and Angus died 1891, buried in Lancaster County, # 35318189.
In 1880 Page County, Iowa, Elizabeth Morrell is 51, widowed, with son Jason 23,

In 1885 Gage County, Nebraska, T.E. Morell is a stone mason, 33, born in Iowa, with wife A.M. 24, Iowa, son Meade 6, Maud 5, and Winnie 2.


Thomas E. Morrell is a railroad engineer in 1900 Gage County, Nebraska, born March 1853 in Wisconsin, married 23 years to Amy M. born April 1860 in Iowa. They have Mead M. Aug 1879 Iowa, Winnie M. April 1883 Nebraska, Myrtle Oct 1888 Nebraska, and Thomas E. Dec 1891 Nebraska.

1902 " A suit for $50,000 damages has been filed in the district court at Beatrice, Neb., against the Burlington railroad company, the widow of Marion Mead Morrell, of Wymore, feeing the complainant. On December ??, last, Morrell, an engineer in... killed in a wreck, which occurred on the Burlington at Table Rock. It is alleged that the deceased had been at work more than eighteen hours without rest when he was killed and the petition alleges a violation of the law adopted in 1899, forbidding this, which, it is held, makes the company liable. Another inter esting qusstion raised in the suit is the validity of the statute which limits the liability of the company in case of a death of this nature to $5,000. Morrell left a young widow, and had been married but twenty four hours when death came."

In 1910 Yuma County, Thomas E. 58 and Amy W. 50 are homesteading, and have only Thomas E. Jr. 20, a laborer on the home place.
September 5, 1912 "License of marriage was issued Monday to Thomas E. Morell and Iva V. Brown, both of Laird."

Thomas Edward Morrell registered for WWI in Laird, Colorado, born Dec 5, 1890 at Table Rock, Nebraska, farming, with a wife and two children.

Thomas proved up 320 acres in 20, 1S 42W in 1916, and 200 acres next to it in section 20 and 20 in 1917.

In 1920 Gage County, "Amma" is 59, widowed, living with daughter Myrtle Brown, 31 and her husband John 33, a railroad conductor.
Thomas Jr. is in Yuma County in 1920, married to Ivy V. 24, Colorado, with Dorothy M. 6, Edward B. 4, and Ruby P. 2.

In 1930 Amy is 70, living with son Thomas in Yuma County, Thomas is 39, farming, with Ivy 25, married 18 years. They have Dorothy M. 16, Edward 14, Ruby 12, Robert 5, Richard 2, and Phillip L. eight months.

Amy Minerva (Davis) Morell -1860-1940 is buried in Wymore, Gage County, Nebraska # 62445791.
So is Thomas "Morrell" 1852-1919, # 62445793.

In 1940 town of Idalia, Yuma County, Thomas is a blacksmith, 49, Ivy V. 45, with Ethelbert 24, Robert 15, Richard 12, Phillip 10, and Margaret 7.

Dorothy married Kenneth Edward Rose born Dec. 8, 1938 to Pearl Holbart Rose and Dorothy Mae (Morrell) Rose at the family home south of Laird. Kenneth passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins following a short illness. Dorothy 1913-1986 # 62268235 is buried in Wray, with Pearl.

"Bud" Morrell 1915-1996 is buried in Burlington, Colorado # 88786756, with Eileen 1918-1995.

Robert Ivan Morrell 1925-2012 is buried in Armel # 139422237, with Eunice M. (Breninger) Morrell 1928-1993.
Ruby Morrell married Ralph G. Case July 7, 1937, recorded in Yuma County.
Ralph G. Case 1910-2002 is buried in Independence, Missouri.
"Ruby Pauline Case, 94, Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to East Independence Community of Christ or Heritage House Community of Christ.
Ruby was born October 29, 1917 in Laird, CO the 3rd child of a family of seven. She was baptized as a member of the RLDS Church at the age of 8. Ruby moved to the Independence area in 1944. She worked for Spring Branch School as a food service manager. She later retired from Sears and Roebuck after 21 years. Ruby was a member of the Community of Christ Church and was active in numerous church organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; one sister; two brothers and her parents.
Survivors include her sons, Clifford L. Case and wife Beverly, Victor R. Case, and Loren R. Case and wife Angie; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; one sister; two brothers; and numerous nieces, nephews and family. "


MAUDE

Maude Ann Morrell, born Feb 28, 1881, married Robert Lee Standley, and died Nov 13, 1905 in Carroll County Missouri. One tree said they married Oct 26, 1905 in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Jason Morrell, according to the East Yuma History, was Ed, Sr.'s brother.
In 1900 Furnas County, Nebraska, Jason is 42, Annie M. 40, Walter P. 17, Ralph E. 14, Hellen M. 12, and Olla D. 10.
In 1910 Yuma County, Jason is 53, Anna M. 40, with Harold J. 6.
Jason Morrell proved up two quarters in 9, 2S 42W in 1914.

1913 "J. Morrell, the Armel blacksmith...." "Jason Morrell of Armel came to Gurney after barley Monday.
In 1920 Butte County, California, Helen is married to Carl A. Lindbert, 36, and they're farming, with Lois 1 born in California. Jason Morrill, 16, brother, is a farm laborer, and so is Jason Morrell Sr. 63,. Anna M. is 56.

Jason Morrell, born in Wisconsin August 12, 1856 to Jason Morrell of Maine and Elizabeth of Massachusetts, died May 10, 1943 in Bonner County, Idaho.
Jason is buried in Sandpoint, Idaho, # 79735978, with Hannah Mariah "Anna" (Seegrist) Morrell 1860-1953. WALTER
Walter P. Morell proved up 320 acres in 8, 2S 42W in 1913.
" Walter, or Walt as he was called, worked for Humbird Lumber Company for a short time. He then purchased from Pete Wiggin a 148-1/2 acre mountain farm located four miles west of Sagle on the county road that connects Sagle with the Dawson and Morton communities (Martin Road at present, although known as the Wylie Road in the 1930's). Walt and his father, Jason, later built a log cabin on the farm for Jason and Hannah to live in. Annie attended the Dawson School, a long walk from their mountain top farm.
During the great depression Walt and his father logged the timber and operated a gasoline saw rig. They farmed the cleared land where they raised hay, cows, chickens, pigs and a lot of fruit and vegetables that sustained them through hard times. A beautiful dapple grey team of horses was their only transportation. One particular hard winter, Walt cut and hewed by hand a box car load of railroad ties which brought top price. That year the Morrells had real oranges and nuts for Christmas, besides paying off some debts..
The three girls grew up and married: Evelyn became Mrs. Glenn Taylor; Winnie became Mrs. Wallace Melior and moved to Bonners Ferry; Annie Mae became Mrs. Melvin Vernon, and they first lived in the Morton community, then Sandpoint..
Walt worked for a short time at Farragut Navel Training station prior to his death in 1944. Pearl lived in Sandpoint until her death in 1955. "

Ralph E. Morrell, age 40, born at Beaver City, Nebraska to Jason Morrell and Anna Segrist, married Bessie Hjoon, age 36, born at Valley County Nebraska to William Hjoon and Margaret Holmes, February 8, 1936.

WALTER MORRELL:Walter Morrell died Aug. 6, 1931, Deceased Civil War Veteran. Military burial as Pender's last Civil War veteran is laid to Rest.Funeral: Methodist Church in Pender.The American Legion acted as pall bearers and a firing squad as Guard of Honor.Born at Sumner, Maine, Feb. 9, 1845; deceased Aug. 6, 1931, age 86 years, 5 months, 27 days.
When 3 years of age, he came with his parents to Wisconsin. When 16 years old he enlisted in the Civil War and served 3 years.He was a member of Co.1 of 1st Wisconsin Volunteers. He was a drummer boy. After the war, he came to Lancaster County, Nebr., and was offered two lots in the village of Lincoln, Nebr., if he would build and operate a blacksmith shop but as he had a homestead southwest of Lincoln, he did not move to Lincoln.
He later moved back to Iowa where he was married at Melvern, Iowa, to Mrs. Malinda Claybough and to them was born one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Rich. This daughter passed away 18 years ago leaving three little girls.
He was married one year after her death to Miss Loretta Rule at Logan, Iowa and to them were born: Austin, Mrs. Lillis McDonald, Mrs. Esther Longe at Pender, Sherman at Norfolk, Mrs. Estella Bichel at Wayne and Eva Leona and Mabel Clara who died in infancy.
He also leaves a brother Jason at Sagel, Idaho and a sister, Mrs. Ida L. (?) buried at Wymore, Nebr. Besides these and his living wife, he leaves 16 grandchildren.
Mr. Morrell joined the Christian Church 36 years ago, was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the G.A.R. post at Mondamin, Iowa where for 35 years he ran a blacksmith shop until his health failed.Later he moved to Emerson, Nebr., then to Thurston, Nebr., and 11 years ago to Pender.
Besides raising his own children, he has raised three grandchildren and a step granddaughter, Mrs. Estella Stevens of Blair who was just like his own children. He was laid to rest at Tekamah, Nebraska beside his grand children at his request. Thus passes from this sphere Pender's last Civil War Veteran.
