Paul and Louisa (Plucheck) Darbin, Joseph Plucheck , Laird


Peter, a mason, and Thesla "Plutern" arrived in New York October 7, 1875, with infant "Annie", all born in Austria.

In 1880 Grace "Plutch" (Plutoh in the index) is in Platte County, Nebraska, age 3, with parents Peter, 36 a laborer, and 'Vestab' 34 both born in Poland. This census says Grace was born in S C, but that could be a language misunderstanding, or perhaps "Same County."

I'm also looking for information on a Piotr or Peter Pluta who immigrated from Tarnow. His wife was Thegla "Jessie" Jazwiec, and they came to the U.S. in about 1881. The name was changed from Pluta to Plucheck. The couple eventually settled in Colorado, by way of South Carolina, Louisianna, and Tarnow, Nebraska. (Apparently, Thegla had a brother who also lived in NE with the last name Zivitz.)

My husband is descended from Grace Plucheck who was born in South Carolina to Joseph and Thegla. They apparently had other children before leaving Poland, but lost most of them on the journey and another one in Louisianna from drowning.

Peter "Joseph" also had some troubles with dementia/mental illness later in life. Would like to find out more about this as the family has a history of this type of illness.

"Adam Pluta" was born October 18, 1881 in Platte County, christened December 25, 1881.
In 1882 Platte County, St. Michaels church baptismal records have "Peter Pluta and Thecla Jazwiec"

Maria Pluta was born September 18, 1883 in Platte County.

One descendant wrote that " Petrus PLUTA (Joseph PLUCHECK), Thecla JAZWIEC, Joseph JAZWIEC (Joseph JAZWICK) immigrated from Roza Austria, now Tarnow Galicia Poland"

Regina was born October 31, 1885 in Platte County, christened November 22, 1885 at the St. Michael Church there,, mother Tekla Jazwiec.

Powell Derbin married Louisa "Pluto" in Denver January 10, 1899, performed by a Catholic priest, H. Robinson of Denver.
In 1900 Denver, Paul "Durby" born March 1865 in Poland, immigrating in 1890, married one year to Grace Feb 1875 South Carolina. Charles born Jan 1893, Vina Dec 1894, Casimer Jan 1896 - all three born in Pennsylvania, and son Lussia April 1900 Colorado , and brother Valentin Durby Mar 1862 Poland, immigrating 1899.

Powell Derbin proved up two quarters in sections 4, 5, and 9, 1S 42W in 1911.



JOSEPH and THESLA

Joseph Plucheck proved up a tract in section 32, 1N 42W in 1894, and cash-claimed another in section 29 in 1890.
Next to Joseph in section 32, Bertha G. Sample proved up a quarter in 1902.

Joseph was naturalized in the Washington County, Colorado court February 20, 1897.

April 1900 " Mr. Plucheck returned to Wray early this week for a visit."

In 1900 Laird precinct, "Tacey Pruchet" is widowed, born June 1846 in Germany. She's had ten kids, four living. Adam was born November 1882 in Nebraska, Linney November 1884 Nebraska.

In 1910 Kirk precinct, Yuma County, Edward is 28, mother Tessie is 60.
Joseph Plucheck is a laborer in Adams County, Colorado in 1910, 65, born in Austria, married but no spouse.

In 1920 Laird, Edward is 39, Goldie 23, with Edna J. 5, Arthur 3, Roy W. 2, Iva F. one month, and his mother Tessie 75 born in Poland.

Joseph might be in the Pueblo, Colorado hospital in 1920, age 76, divorced, born in Austria.

In 1910 "Paul Derbin" had unclaimed letters at the Wray post office.
In 1910 Laird precinct, Paul "Darby" 45, born in Russian Poland, second marriage, with Grace 32 Massachusetts, have Vida 14 Pennsylvania, Lucy 10, Annie 7, and Flora 4, all three in Colorado.

1912 "Paul Darbin moved his family onto the Sample farm last Tuesday."
1912 "Charlie Darbin has purchased a new buggy. He must be figuring on beating somebody's time this summer."
1914 April 27, 1916 "Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Darbin have a little son."

MARY

Maria Pluta was born September 18, 1883 in Platte County.

Mary Plucheck was taking a teachers exam in Wray in 1901.

In June 1906 Mary Plucheck was attending the Wray Colorado school institute.

In 1910 Yuma County, next to Edward, Mary Plucheck 26 and Rena Plucheck 24, both farming, both born in Nebraska, have separate households.

Mary C. Plucheck was teaching in District # 27, Kit Carson County, Colorado, with an address of Kanorado, Kansas.

In December 1911 Kit Carson County "Miss Mary Plucheck, teacher of the Hunter school, drives long distances daily to reach her school."

Mary C. Plucheck and Alvin R. Watmore, both 28 of Cope, Colorado, married in Burlington Colorado July 31, 1912

January 5, 1933 "The Alvin Watmore family received news Tuesday morning of the death of Mrs. Watmore's mother in Nebraska. Miss Viella went home from school to attend the funeral."

EDWARD

July 23, 1909 "Edward Plucheck arrived in Wray Saturday from his homestead near Cope, where he is also engaged in the windmill business. He will remain in this vicinity a couple of weeks and do some carpenter work."

July 24, 1913 "Married - the first of last week Mr. Adam Plucheck and Miss Goldie Barber."
This was Edward Albert Plucheck, 31, marrying Mary Goldie Edith Barber, 17, in Stratton September 11, 1913, by A.Kieffer, Catholic priest of Stratton. The Marriage Record Report must have the wrong date.
She was the daughter of Harley and Josephine Barber buried in Martin, South Dakota # 74478469
In 1910 Kirk precinct, Yuma County, Edward is 28, mother Tessie is 60.
Edward proved up two quarters in 30 and 31, 5S 48W - south of Cope - in 1916.
In 1920 Laird, Edward is 39, Goldie 23, with Edna J. 5, Arthur 3, Roy W. 2, Iva F. one month, and his mother Tessie 75 born in Poland.

Edward is buried in Cope, # 159064891.

January 20, 1966 "Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Twyla Plucheck of Denver. She was a sister of Wayne Cross, a former resident of this community."

Arthur Plucheck married Naomi Sampson of Wray - her parents Harry # 35148516 and Theda Sampson are buried in Colordo Springs. In 1955 Arthur Plucheck (Naomi) is a carpenter at 2o72o6o GUnnison in Colorado Springs.

October 30, 1980 "Roy Plucheck passed away in Denver. His parents lived south of Cope for years."

Edna Carlton, born October 11, 1914, died June 24, 1998, last residence Adams County, Colorado.

March 25, 1960 Phoenix "Rosary for Jack John Ross, 45, who died yesterday in his home, 7237 E. Range, will be recited at 8 p.m. today in the Messinger Mortuary Chapel, 515 E. Indian School. Mass will be sung at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, here. Mr. Ross, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., who came to Phoenix in 1935, moved to Scottsdale in 1953. A tile contractor, he was a member of Perpetual Help Church. Surviving are his wife, Iva F., and a son, Jack J., Scottsdale"

Iva F. Ross, born January 27, 1920, died January 23, 2006.
She was listed as Berry in 1941, as Ross in 1945, and as Iva Florence VanValkenburg in 1967.
She was listed with a Flagstaff, Arizona address, with possibly relative Jack Jay Ross.


1915 "Mrs. Plucheck and daughter Rene moved to Laird Wednesday, into the place recently vacated by Bose Gilbert."

In 1920 Weld County, Paul Darbin, farming, 50, born in Poland, married to Grace M. 42 South Carolina, have Lucy 19, Flora 14, and Agnes 9, Colorado.
In 1925 Denver, at 4302 Zuni, Paul and Grace have Anna M. a stenographer at R.R. Hall Cadillac, Flora D. an assistant to H.A. Fynn, and Lucy J. a photographer.
In 1927 Denver, Paul and Grace still live at 4302 Zuni. Flora D., an assistant to H.A. Fynn, and Anna M. a steno at Hall Cadillac, also live there.
In 1930 Denver, Paul Derbin, 56, born in Poland, single, is a laborer doing odd jobs, immigrating in 1895. Grace is divorced in 1930 Denver.
Per one tree, Paul died Oct 10, 1938 at Wheat Ridge Colorado. # 68301302 has him buried in Wheat Ridge, born Feb 12, 1863.

Grace Martha (Plucheck) Darbin, 1876-1955, per # 85375559 is buried in Forest Lawn Glendale, California.


THEODORE

Theodore Darby of Haigler, Neb. was born July 3, 1884 in Poland which was a property of Russia, to Paul and Martha Darbin. He died at the age of 93 years, 10 months and one day April 4, 1956 at the Kinder Kare Home in Wauneta, Neb.
Funeral services were held April 7 at Zion Lutheran Church in Haigler with Pastor Terry Douglass officiating.
Theodore came to the United States with his parents at the age of three years, and lived in Pittsburgh, Pa. where his father worked in the coal mines. Later he moved to Hanna, Wyo., Denver and then with his family to Laird.
At an early age he left home and went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Douglass and this was his home until he took up a homestead in Cheyenne County Kansas in 1905.

July 18, 1911 he was united in marriage to Christina Elizabeth Wall. She died July 25, 1928 leaving Theodore with five small children to raise.
In addition to his own work on the homestead from 1914 to 1923 Mr. Darby walked the five miles to Haigler and worked for Roach Brothers blacksmithing, drilling wells and putting up windmills. He also helped dig the ditches when Haigler put in the water system. In his later years he was helpful wherever he was needed, always ready to help a neighbor in need.
Preceding him in death were his wife; parents; two brothers, Charles and Cashmer; a sister Tina and half-sister Agnes; one grandchild, Larry David Cline; one great grandchild, Alan Dean Edeal.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Jake (Martha) Walter and Mary Stute, both of Haigler; Tressa Downs of Newport, Ky.; Esther Cline of Arkansas City, Kan.; a son Raymond of Haigler; three half sisters, Flo Miller, Ann Brownridge and Lucille Tuttle, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Martha Elizabeth (Darby) Walter, 89, died Saturday (April 6, 2002) at Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman. She was born June 20, 1912, to Theodore and Christina Elizabeth (Wall) Darby on their farm south of Haigler in Cheyenne County, Kan. She attended first through eighth grades at Pleasant Hill country school and helped her parents on the farm. On weekends, she was a housekeeper. In 1929, she went to LeSalle, Colo., to live with her Uncle Charles Darbin and his family. After living with them for two years, she moved to Fort Collins, Colo. She spent a short time with a young family, caring for their son when they moved from Colorado to Glendale, Calif. She later returned to Denver. On June 20, 1943, she married Jacob Walter, Jr. and they made their home on a farm nine miles east and north of Haigler. In the early 1980's, Martha moved to the Rainbow Fountain Park in Benkelman to be near her husband who was a resident at Hester Memorial Home. In August of 1995, Martha was unable to care for herself due to complications of diabetes and became a resident of Hester Memorial Home.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Haigler. She was also a member of the LCW and Clover Leaf Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jacob; daughter, Donna Pursley and husband, Neal; and her brother, Raymond Darby.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley and husband, Dobert Gooder of Alda; sisters, Mary Stute of Holdrege, Tressa Downs of Newport, Ky., and Ester Cline of Arkansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Haigler with the Rev. David C. Rossbach officiating. Interment will follow at the Haigler Cemetery.

Mary Ann (Darby) Stute died Friday (March 11, 2005). She was born in a sod house in Cheyenne County, southwest of Haigler on Dec. 10, 1913, to Theodore and Christine Elizabeth (Wall) Darby. She attended rural school West-10 in Cheyenne County through the eighth grade. After working on the family farm and helping care for her siblings, she worked for the Porter family in Haigler.
On Jan. 19, 1937, she married Alfred Stute at the Lutheran Church near Washington Park in Denver, Colo. They made their home on a farm northeast of Haigler and had three daughters and one son. She lived most of her life in Haigler. Following her husband's death on March 18, 1970, she became an farming and ranching partner with her son, Royce. She received her GED in 1981. She received an Admiralship in the Great Nebraska Navy from Governor Charles Thone. She resided at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege after she suffered a stroke in February of 1999.
She was active in the choir, women's organizations and Sunday school. She was a teaching leader in the Bethel series bible study. She was active in the Cloverleaf extension club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Raymond Darby; sister, Martha Walter; and grandson, Alan Edeal.
Survivors include sisters, Tressa Downs, Newport, Ky., and Esther Cline, Fremont; children, Alfreda Schroeder and her husband Dennis, Bennington, Kathryn Edeal and her husband Russell of Loomis, Royce Stute and his wife Marsha of Haigler and Bonnie Hansen and her husband Tim of Cozad; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church at Haigler at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Chris Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery in Benkelman.

Tressa D. Downs, 97, of Newport, passed away on March 2, 2013 at Baptist Convalescent Center Newport, KY. She was a Sales Clerk with S.S. Kresge Company. She was the President of the Golden Age Club, and the Financial Secretary for the Womens Fellowship at St. John's UCC and the Treasurer for the Monday Club at Grand Towers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Downs, her parents Theadore & Elizabeth Darby, a brother Raymond (Jack) Darby, sisters Martha Walter & Mary Stute , a nephew Royce Stute and a niece Donna Pursley.
Tressa is survived by a sister Esther Cline, brother-in-law John F. ( Doc) Doherty, a nephew John Doherty, nieces Alfreda (Freddie) Schroeder, Kathryn Edeal, Shirley Gooder and Bonnie Hansen and many great nieces & nephews.
No visitation. Funeral Ceremony will be held 10:00 am Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the St. John's United Church of Christ, Newport, Kentucky. Burial will take place in the Vesper Cemetery, Neville, OH

In 1930 Laramie County, Wyoming, Cash Darbin is a laborer on a stock farm of Orville and Bertha Miles. He's 31, born in the U.S.

Cash Darbin 1897-1964 is buried in Haigler # 71510836.

LUCILLE
Lucille J. (Darbin) Tuttle, 1901-1991, is buried in Forest Lawn Glendale # 85536668.
She had married a prominent Los Angeles lawyer after his wife died in 1939.

Harrison Mead Broda registered for WWI at Potosi, Missouri, born June 2, 1889 at Patterson, Iowa, farming, with a wife and two children.

In 1920 Denver Harrison M. Broda is a laborer, 24, born in Iowa, Vina 24 Pennsylvania, with James 3, Colorado, Louisa 2, Illinois and Margurite ten months Nebraska
In 1930 Denver, Harry is a carpenter for the street-car company, and they have James, Laura 13, Marguerite, and Harry Jr. 2.
Harry M. Broda 1889-1972 is buried in Wheat Ridge # 68501294, with Vina "Bobo" Broda # 68301288, 1893-1965.
James Woodrow Broda 1915-1993 is buried in Fort Logan # 412954.

In 1910 Charles is a farm hand on the Rosencrans ranch south of Laird.

1912 Laird items "Charlie Darby is going to try farming this coming season, having rented his father's farm."


In 1920 Magee Precinct, Weld County, on the same page as the Hesp and Wm. Johnston households, (so it's very near the Pleasant Valley Church), Charles is 27, Nettie L. 26, with Harold E. 4.

In 1930 Weld County, Charles is 37, born in Pennsylvania, Nettie L. 36 Colorado, with Harold E. 14, Berta 9, Charles 7, Ida Belle 5, and John W. 3, all kids born in Colorado.
In 1940 Weld County Charles and Nettie are farming, with Harold 23, Ada Belle 7, John 6, and Floyd newborn.

Charles Darbin 1894-1950 is buried in Wray # 63510546, with Nettie (Prentice) Darbin 1894-1949 # 63510522.

Harold Eugene Darbin, born April 12, 1916, married Josephine E. Rogers and died in Brighton, Colorado
Burton Charles Darbin born May 15, 1920, died May 14, 2008 in Wiggins, Colorado. Burton # 106112608 is buried in the Hoyt Cemetery, Morgan County, Colorado "Husband of Sybil Juanita Henley".

Charles Darbin, Jr. 1922-1978 is buried in Caldwell, Canyon County, Idaho # 87394454. One tree said he married Irene Isabelle Stumbaugh. Their daughter Joyce Irene 1944-1945 is also buried there.

John William Darbin, born March 22, 1927, died March 20, 1996 in San Bernardino County.
Floyd P. Darbin 1935-1955 is buried in Wray # 63510569.

Ada Belle Darbin married Lester Leon Bristol.

Ada Belle Bristol, 86 lifelong area resident, died, Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Peak Care Center in Longmont. Ada was born March 18, 1925 in Yuma, CO to Charles and Nettie Darvin. Ada married Lester Bristol in November of 1949 in Ft. Morgan. Ada enjoyed knitting, working crossword puzzles and oil painting. In fact, she had a painting of hers displayed at an Alzheimers Event in Loveland. In her earlier years she worked as a clerk in the Jefferson County assessors office. Survivors include one son, Gary Bristol of Frederick, one daughter, Janet Shaw of Lakewood, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, five brothers, Charles, John, Burton, Floyd and Harold Darvin and her parents. There will be a visitation on Thursday, November 17th from 5 until 7 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. Funeral Services will be Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Flora is married to Harold Miller in 1930 Denver, with Shirley, 2. Harold's father Isaac C. 65 born in Pennsylvania is with them.

In 1940 Los Angeles, Harold is a salesman for diathermy apparatus, and they have Shirley 12 and Harold Jr. 5, born in Colorado.
Flora Darbin Miller 1904-2000 is buried in Forest Lawn Gelndale, # 65468859.

ANNE
Anne Marie Brownridge, born Dec 17, 1902 in Colorado - father Darbin, mother Plucheck, died January 19, 1990 in Los Angeles County. She's buried in Forest Lawn Glendale # 85356944.


AGNES
Cherie Agnes Kerdikes, born Dec 31, 1910 in Colorado - father Darbin , mother Plucheck, died March 11, 1957 in Los Angeles County.
She's buried in Forest Lawn Glendale, per # 85440577. with Anne Marie # 85356944.

Besides the homestead south of Laird, Joseph timber-claimed a quarter in 15, 4S 47W - a few miles northeast of Joes.

1904 Union Ridge items "Encil Lay and Adam Plucheck have rented the farm of Homer Spriggs and re preparing to farm quite extensively this coming spring" (Encil was the brother of Elzy Lay, the planner for Butch Cassidy's Wid Bunch)
In 1910 Tessie Plucheck, 60 born in Austria, is in Yuma County, with son Edward Plucheck, born about 1882 in Nebraska.
Joseph Plucheck, 65, born in Austria (census index has Kansas), is a laborer, living alone in Adams County, Colorado, married.

In 1920 Pueblo, Joseph Plucheck, divorced, is an inmate at the state hospital.


1912 Cope items "Mary Plucheck who is teaching a successful term of school in district 61 has two more weeks of school.
Mary E. Plucheck married Alvin R. Watmore August 1, 1912, recorded in Kit Carson County.
Mary Plucheck, in Kirk in 1910 on the same page as brother Edward (Tessie) and Rena, had married Alvin Watmore, and in 1920 they have Vilila 3. Alvin is 36, Mary C. 36, both born in Nebraska, and niece Valda Watmore 7, Nebraska is living with them.
1930 they're farming in Yuma County, both 47, with Vicila 14 and John 10.
Mary, born Sept 18, 1883 in Nebraska, died Nov 15, 1973 in San Diego County.
She and Alvin are interred in Holy Cross, # 143446359.
