Joseph cash-claimed a quarter in section 6, 1N 48W in 1890.

Golden, Colorado "We deeply sympathize with J. B. Morton and wife over the sad loss of their baby, which died Sunday, May 5, 1895, with whooping cough. The funeral occurred Monday."

In 1900 Jefferson County, Nebraska, John C. Morton 45 is farming, on a mortgaged home, Phebe J. Morton 39 Wife, William H. Morton 17 Son, Clara A. Morton 14 Daughter, Nora F. Morton 12 Daughter, James E. Morton 10 Son, Ethel S. Morton 4 Daughter, Lillian E. Morton 3 Daughter, and John Morton 1/12 Son. All the kids were born in Nebraska.
Mrs. Phoebe Jane Morton, 80, who at 19 came with her husband to Jefferson county, Nebraska, to farm near Plymouth, died Sunday (March 21, 1943) in Lincoln. She had been bedfast about a year and a half with a lingering illness, for some time she was cared for by her son, Dr. W. H. Morton of Lincoln in his home, but was removed to a hospital a few months ago.
Born in 1862 in Pike county, Indiana, Mrs. Morton was married to John Calvin Morton Oct. 12, 1879, and the year following they came to Nebraska. They farmed near Plymouth until 1903, when they retired and moved to town.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. H. Morton, Lincoln, and Everett Morton, Eagle; four daughters, Mrs. L. S. Hiatt, Falrbury, Mrs. L. G. Atherton, Flandreau, S. D., Mrs. E. C. Orth, Lincoln, Mrs. Horace Mann, Kearney; two brothers, Jacob W. Wadley, Wichita, Kas.; and Benjamin F. Wadley of Lebanon, Kas.; and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Plymouth, Neb., Methodist church. Burial will be in Plymouth.


In 1902 the Empire Land and Cattle Company filed suit against Jacob E. Stoner, Henry C. Palmer, Marck Palmer, trustee for E. Dean, John C. Morton and Josiah Paden for land in sections 24, 25 and 26, 5N 48W.

In 1870 Pawnee County, Nebraska, Joseph B. Marton is farming, 54, Eleanor Marton 50, Gabriel J. Marton 19, John O. Marton 17, Martha E. Marton 14, Nancy S. Marton 12, and Charles T B Marton 8.

SALINE COUNTY " J. B. Morton, of Missouri, opened a general store, the first one in Pawnee City.

In 1880 Saline County, Nebraska, Augustus Morton is 32, keeping a hotel, born in New York, wife Lizzie 18 born in Ohio, three female servants, and brother Joseph Morton 20 a clerk in the hotel.

Living in the hotel are Joel B. Morton 70 Father, Nettie Clark 30 Sister, a laborer, and Minnie Clark 4 Niece, both born in Ohio.

In 1885 Friend, Saline County, Gus Morton is 36, Amanda 27,, Katie one month, and Virginia 1.

In 1885 Saline County, Nebraska, Joseph Morton is 25, a clerk in a store, born in New York, Annie 22 in Canada, Harley 2 and Guy seven months born in Nebraska.
1922 "Russ Judson Morton was born at Postdate New York on the figth day of May 1852 and departed this life October 31 1922 at the age of 70 years 5 months and 15 days/ When but a child he moved with his parents from New York and set In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Elia Parsons at Friend, Neb., where they made their home for five years. In 1886 Mr. and Mrs. Morten moved to Broken Bow, where they made their home for 30 years. In 1917 Beaver City became their home. For some months Mr. Morton had been in poor health. Disease and long years of toil at his trade had made such inroads upon his vitality that when he suffered a serious attack cf hesrt trouble about two weeks before strength was.... Mr. Morton belonged to that indispensable class of citizens so necessary to make up a lawabiding community. He was quiet and unaasnming but one who could be depended on. Having lived in this community for only a short period he had not made a large circle of friends and acquaintances but he was respected and honored by all who knew him as an upright man.
Mr. Morton is survived by his life long companion for whom the sympathy of the entire community goes out. Funeral services were Conducted at the family home on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. Clark and the burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery."

ANNA'S FAMILY

"BIRDSALL & MORTON, formerly of Hastings and Friend, Neb, the second parties to launch forth in business and now rank foremost in the general merchandise line. These gentlemen have enjoyed a large and paying trade since locating here and now do their full share of the business of the town. About the time that the above named firm started,"


In August 1887 the Pioneer described the fire "Your reporter rushed to the scene to find the kitchen of the Avenue House filled with flames....The flames rolled on and in short time the Avenue was a mass of flames, taking with it the following proprietors' buildings: Schuck & Heineke's building, C. H. Madeley's building in which was his real estate office, also the Yuma Sun in the same building, next the building of C.H. Madeley occupied by Birdsall & Morton as grocery store and post office...."

John Abbott wrote years later that along the street to the south was the store of Joseph Morton, next a hotel, the drug store of M.A. Spaulding..."

In 1910 Denver, Joel B. Morton is a machinist for a railway company, 50, Harl F. Morton 27 Son, Guy C. Morton 25 Son, Anna Morton 45 Wife, Leone Morton 23 Daughter, and Ferne Morton 11 Daughter.

JOHN IN PAWNEE COUNTY

September 17, 1906 Table Rock " Mrs. Catharine Stover, who has been confined to the house for several months with disease incident to old age, died at 9 o'clock this morning, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Clara E. Morton. She was seventy-seven years of age. She was born in Ohio, but removed with her parents when quite small, to Jones couty, Ia., removing with her husband here forty-two years since, locating on a farm ten miles northeast, in the corner of Nemaha county. She waa the widow of Elder Mihael M. Stover, who died here between six and seven years since.
Six children survive her, as follows: Geo. Stover and Clara Morton, of Table Rock; T. J. Stover, of Elk Creek; Frank Stover, of Wichita, Kas., Elisha Stover of Salem, Ore.; and M. M. Stover, Jr., of Norton, Kas. The funeral services will be held here Friday morning and she will be laid to rest in tbe Table Rock cemetery."

In 1900 Pawnee County, Nebraska, John O. Morton is a day laborer, 47, born in Missouri, married 26 years to Clara E. Morton 44 Wife, and Catharine R. Stover 69 Mother in Law.
