O. Ambrose owned that quarter in 1920, with the home on the north side center of the quarter. A school was immediately south of his quarter on a quarter owned by Mrs. A. J. Ogle.

January 31, 1923 Kansas City " Rebecca Melissa Mathis, 83 years old, died yesterday morning at her home, 27411 Denver avenue. She is survived by her husband, Frederick B. Mathis, five sons, William J. Mathis, 2447 Prospect avenue, John T. Mathis 6125 Wornall road, Walter F. Mathis, 2709 North Thirteenth street, Kansas City, Kas., Albert A. Mathis and Rufus C. Ntatills France, and a daughter Mrs. 011ie Lohmann, San Diego, Cal. Funeral will be at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Eyler chapel. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery."

In 1900 Kansas City, John is a contractor foreman, born January 1870 in Illinois. Opal was born August 1869 in Missouri.

February 1927 Kansas City "Frederick B. Mathis, 86 years old, who lived with a son, William J. Mathis, 2533 Park avenue, died today at Research hospital. He was a retired contractor and had lived in Kansas City since 1888. Besides William J. Mathis he leaves two other sons, John T Mathis, a lawyer. 6125 Wornall road, and Walter F. Mathis, clerk of the Wyandotte County district court, 2703 Parallel avenue, Kansas City, Kan., and one daughter, Mrs. 011ie Lohman, San Diego, Cal.
Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock tomorrow at the Eyler chapel, Linvood boulevard and Woodland avenue, and will be in charge of the Farragut Thomas post of the G. A. R. "

Catherine M. Mathis filed suit against John T. Mathis' estate "In February, 1949, when the trial was had, plaintiff was 60 years old and the defendant 79. The defendant, John T. Mathis, was admitted to the Bar in 1896 and was associated with John H. Lucas for many years. He also served as Assistant City Counselor of Kansas City for eight years. At one time he was a traveling claim adjuster for the Union Pacific Railroad Company. He was married and in 1934 he and his wife, Rhoda, moved to California where she died in 1944. No children were born of this marriage.
Mathis inherited a substantial amount of property from his wife.."

In 1940 Opal, 69, divorced, is in an asylum in Pendleton, Oregon.

In the same company as Charles Goins in 1838 was John T. Mathis.

Charles Goins, son of Carter Goins, was born about 1815 in Hamilton County. Dodson Goins, regarded as a son of Laban Goins, was born about 1789 in Patrick County. The Dodson family was a neighbor to the Goins family in Grainger County. He accompanied his father to Hamilton County about 1829. He participated in the Second Seminole War in 1837. His company was mustered at Ross’s Landing, according to "The History of Hamilton County and Chattanooga, Tennessee" by Zella Armstrong. This company was mustered out at Baton Rouge, Louisiana May 9, 1838.  
"Mattie Frances Stearman Gowen, an 87-year-old widow, residing in Yuma, Colorado when contacted in February 1973 advised that she and her husband "came west in 1913. They settled near Yuma where Jesse Lee Gowen was a farmer until his death August 19, 1937. Mattie Frances Stearman Gowen died January 23, 1991."

In 1880 Decatur County, Iowa, Rebecca Sheehan is 60, John B. Boyd 29 Grandson-in-law, Rebecca J. Boyd 22 Granddaughter, Kitty B. Newcomer 1 Great Granddaughter, John T. Matthews 20 Son, and Mahala C. Matthews 17 Daughter.

In 1885 Sheridan County, Nebraska, Ada Mathews 17, and John Mathews 24, both born in Iowa.
