September 18, 1930 "Jerry Deffenbaugh, 18 year old son of Mrs. Martha
Deffenbaugh passed away at the Bryan Memorial Hospital in
Lincoln last Tuesday, September 9, 1930.
Jerry was taken ill a week before he died from what doctors claimed was spinal meningitis caused from a severe
injury to his head while swimming in the pool at Capitol Beach on August 16. It seems his
injury at the time was not considered very serious
and he worked several weeks before
he became ill. The Deffenbaugh family formerly resided here and Jerry was
born and lived here until aboyt four years ago when they moved to Havelock.
The past several years he has been employed at the
Lincoln Packing Co and was well liked by his employers.
His father, Ed Deffenbaugh, preceded him In death several years ago and his mother,
Mrs. Martha Deffenbaug,
one sister Pauline and
his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs R. F. Hetrick remain to mourn his untimely demise.
Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon with short service at the home and at the Free Methodist Church in Lincoln.
Interment was made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery northeast of town beside his father.
We extend our sincere sympathy to Mrs. Deffenbaugh and Pauline."
