They moved out to their homestead southwest of town last week, and are deep in the
mysteries of farming and gardening."
July 1913 " Dr. M. F. Crawford had the misfortune to lose hia driving horse Wednesday.
He drove in from his homestead in the morning and before noon the horse was found dead in the barn."
Millard proved up 240 acres in section 28, 1N 48W in 1914.
May 4, 1916 "With deep regret, we are called upon to chronicle the
death of Dr. Millard F. Crawford, which occurred at his home in Wray. Colo.
Sunday, April 30, 1916, at 6 a. m. The deceased had moved from Yuma to Wray
some three months previous and contemplated assisting his son, Dr. C. C.
Crawford in his practice, when he contracted a heavy cold, which resulted in
pneumonia, and in the end death came to relieve the suffering.
Dr. Crawford was born in Hancock county, Illinois, November 21 1855
and when quite young came with his parents to Knox county, Missouri.
He attended the Missouri State Normal at Kirksville, Missouri, then
the Keokuk Medical College at Keokuk, Iowa, from which he graduated,
received his diploma at the age of 21 to practice medicine.
He located at Hurdland. Missouri, where he met and married Miss
Carilla M. Payne, September 1, 1881. For thirty years he continued
his practice at this place, with great success, as after leaving for
Colorado, numerous requests were sent for his return.
It mny be truthfully said for Dr. Crawford that he never was called upon
to do a kind act or favor to anyone but what he gladly did it.
He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, a son, Dr. C. C. Crawford
cf this place, Mrs. Wm. G. Engelhardt of Chillicothe, Missouri,
and his youngest daughter, Margaret, and one sister,
Mrs. Mary Atkinson of Berryville, Arkansas, who was at his bedside
three weeks previous to his death.
He was an active and enthusiastic member of the Masonic and 1.0 O.F.
1odges. He with his family were members of the Christian church where
they lived in Missouri, but there being no Christian church at Yuma they
united with the M. E. church of which he was a member at the time of
his death. Funeral sevrices were held from the home in Wray, Colorado,
Tuesday, May 2, at 2:30 p. m.. Rev. Breckenridge of Yuma preached the
sermon, and the Masonic and I.O.O.F. lodges conducting the services.
The floral offerings were beautiful, showing the esteem in which he was
held by all who knew him.
Thus, a life has gone out, which held as its motto, the upbuilding
and moulding of a noble character as truthfulness and honesty were his
great mottoes in life. He was nominated County Coroner on the Republicarn
ticket two years ago and was elected to this office without even going
out of his home town to solicit votes."
" Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Engelhardt expect to return to their home in Chillicothe, Mo.,
the first of the week. Mrs. Engelhard has been in Wray for the past two months helping care for
her father, Dr. M. F. Crawford, during his last illness. Mr. Engelhardt was called to Wray Monday by
the death of Dr. Crawford."

her husband Dr. M. F. Crawford. She had lived in the old Shumaker property until 1916,
the time of the death of her husband, when she left Wray to make her home with her two daughters at
Chillicothe, Mo., where she died Saturday night, May 15th.
Had she lived until August 2, 1937, she would have been 80 years of age. Before her marriage to
Dr. M. F. Crawford on September 2, 1880 her name was Corilla M. Payne.
To this union was born three children, Dr. C. C. Crawford, of Bennett, Colo.;
Mrs. W. G. Engelhardt and Mrs. J. D. Stewart of Chillicothe, Mo.
The remains were accompanied to Wray by the daughters followed by their husbands by auto.
C. C. Crawford and son Millard W. and daughter Sarah Margaret were also in Wray to attend the
services.
Death was caused by a fall which broke her leg below the hip, followed by a parlytic stroke.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Chillicothe, Mo., after which the remains were shipped to
Wray. Services in Wray were conducted at the Hitchcock Funeral Home by Rev. P. W. Walthall
at 3:00 in the afternoon. Interment was made at Grandview beside the husband. "
