"Joseph Chamberlain brother of Mrs. Elizabeth Peters of Guide Rock, aged 73 years, passed away November 12th, 1945, in a hospital in Kearney. A very impressive and fitting service was held in the Anderson Funeral Home at 3:00 P. M. November 14th.
Joseph Chamberlain was born in Henry county Illinois October 26, 1872. Surviving are his wife, three sons Clifford and Vernie of Kearney, and Harold in Cernus, two daughters, Dorothy Bickford of Kearney, and Mrs. W. M. Wenske of Lincoln, two sisters, Mrs. Jane Blanke of California, and Mrs. Elizabeth Peters of Guide Rock, one brother John Chamberlain of California, and six grandchildren. His sister Mrs. Elizabeth Peters and his niece, Mrs. Nellie Shultz both of Guide Rock, were present at the funeral.
Following is a letter which Mrs. Peters wrote and requested printed in the Signal and which recently appeared in the Franklin Sentinel: While my brother Joseph Chamberlain was able to meet me at the bus depot, I am sory to tell our old school mates and friends of Franklin and Macon that I found him in poor health. He is having hard coughing spells and heart trouble. He is up and about but shouldn't be. With words I am not able to express the pleasure it has given me to meet and visit with the old school mates and friends there and I am very thankful I did not miss this opportunity to come see my brother and there is not much hope when we part that I will ever see him alive again. When we look upon the cold and lifeless form of our loved ones, what a comforting thought that Jesus forgives and they are just in the other room waiting our arrival. When I bid my father goodby and later looked upon the lifeless form of my mother, the thought ran through my mind that they were among the bravest of pioneers, not society belles, but worth their weight in gold and died in faith believing they were."
