MARY'S FAMILY

In 1880 Smith County, Kansas, James "Casada" is farming, 51, with Hannah P. 44, Mary E. 21. James' niece Hannah Glenn 11 and nephew William Glenn 8 are with them.

John timber-claimed a quarter in section 12, 1N 45W in 1895.


JOHN AND MARY

In 1900 Smith County, Kansas, John H. Watson is farming, born Feb 1854 in Indiana, married 20 years to Mary born May 1859 in Iowa. She's had seven kids, all living. William Dec 1881, Oscar Sept 1883, Josie July 1885, Viola B. Feb 1887, Pearl F. Aug 1888, John L. Jan 1890, and Hugh L. Mar 1894 were all born in Kansas.

In 1905 Smith County, John is 41, Mary E. 36, William P. 14, Oscar 12, Josie 10, Pearl 8, John 6, Viola 4, and Luvern 1.


April 1910 Wray "John Watson arrived with his family and stock and is now located on his one-half section of Yuma county land."

In 1910 Yuma County, Eckley precinct, John H. is 56, Mary 50, Laverne H. 16, and Leslie J. 20.

"John Watson and youngest son have left for Kansas, where they will spend the winter."

January 1911 "J. H. Watson, Wes Townsend, Art McCasland and their respective families spent Sunday at the Oscar Watson home."

" While going to Yuma Monday, John Watson and wife met with what might have been a serious accident. They met an automobile which frightened their team. The horses broke the tongue out of their vehicle but, aside from that, and a bad fright to the occupants, no damage was done."

March 1911 "Wesley Townsend and family and brother, Ora, two brothers-in-law Pearl and Leslie Watson arrived Friday from Smith County, Kansas with their long procession of teams and wagons. Wesley and Ora both have farms here and the Watson brothers will farm their father's place."

"John Watson and wife were guests at the Frank Gilbert home Sunday."
" John Watson and wife were severely shocked by lightning Saturday, when it struck the ground a few feet from their house."

January 1912 "John Watson and families spent New Years day at the Oscar Watson home . "

February 1912 "Worthy Higbee and Harlan Hill are here from Smith County, Kansas. Mr. Higbee is going to build on his homestead southwest of Yuma, and Mr. Hill is looking over the country and visiting his old time friends. At present he is with the John Watson family."

April 1912 " The Watson families gathered at the home of John Watson to eat their Easter dinner. Miss Ida Carter is here from Smith County, Kansas, visiting her sister, Mrs. Oscar Watson."

December 1913 Wray "Mr. John Watson and son, LaVern, who came down two weeks ago from their home near Eckley so that the latter might take the sulphur baths returned to their home yesterday. Mr. Watson is suffering from rheumatism. Mrs. Watson and son are relatives of Mrs. John Penton."

June 3, 1915 "About seventy neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. John Watson of south of Eckley gathered at their home one day recently and tendered them a surprise dinner, the occasion being the birthday of Mrs. Watson. The company gathered at 11 o'clock and, after a most bountiful dinner served from baskets brought by the guests, the afternoon was spent with music and song and social chat. "

June 1919 " Mr. and. Mrs. L. R. MeCollom and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hennson visited Friday at the LaVerne Watson home. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Watson returned with the McCollom's and visited overnight."

One tree said John, born February 9, 1854 in Indiana, died March 24, 1927 in Smith Center, Kansas.

There's a Mary E. Watson buried in New Addition 109 # 74388518. the same block as Marvel A. Watson 1927, Mary Elizabeth 1960, Oscar H. 1963, and Hust Ilene Louise Watson 2005 (Oscar and Mary Elizabeth's daughter). There are seven spaces taken in the by-location listing.
ONe tree said Mary, born May 30, 1859, died August 7, 1920 in Eckley.

VIOLA

Viola married Wes Townsend, and in 1910 they're in Smith County, both 22. Nellie L. is 2, Floyd newborn.

Viola died in 1918, and is buried in Yuma 1887-1918 # 74376465.

"Hallee Clark, 76, Rupert, [Idaho] died Wednesday, August 8, 1984 at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 11, 1908, at Bellaire, Kan., the daughter of Wesley Townsend and Viola Watson. She moved to Yuma, Colo., by covered wagon in 1912, and settled on a homestead. She married Carl Skold in 1924 at Greeley, Colo. They were later divorced. She moved to Kimberly in 1933 and then to Rupert and married "CC" Clark April 18, 1934, in Twin Falls. She has resided in the Rupert area since that time.
She is survived by her husband, CC, one daughter, Beverly Emanuel, Fort Collins, Colo; four grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, one brother, and her parents."

WILLIAM

In 1910 Dewey County, Oklahoma, W. V. is 28, born in Kanss, married to Etta May 21 born in Kanas. Verla B. is 2, born inKansas. She's the sister of Earl McCasland 24 born in Nebraska.

William is a laborer in Dewey County, Oklahoma in 1920, 38, with May 31 and Verla 12, all born in Kanss.

In 1930 all three are in Yuma, William, 48, operating a popcorn stand, May 40, and Verla B. 22 a clerk in a dry goods store.


William Vanevery Watson registered for WWII, living at 204 East 4th is Yuma, born December 14k, 1881, with Mrs. Etta May Watson of Yuma




Etta is buried in Yuma 1888-1972 # 74388325.




OSCAR

In 1910 Yuma County, Oscar is farming, 26, married to Mary E. 24, with Marvel 3, June L. 1, anall born in Kanss, and Maude A. two months old, born in COlorado.

Oscar proved up two quarters in sections 29 and 32, 1N 46W in 1913.

Oscar is buried in Yuma 1883-1963 # 74388563, with Mary Elizabeth 1885-1960 # 74388542.

PEARL

November 5, 1915 "Gus Welkmer, of Smith Center, Kansas, is the guest of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Watson, fifteen miles south of Yuma."

Pearl F. Watson proved up 320 acres in sections 19 and 30, 1N 46W in 1915.

July 1916 Lebanon, Kansas "A telegram from Yuma county today said that Pearl Watson had had both of his thumbs torn off, and his brother-in-law, Wardie Weltmer started at once for the scene, and will do Pearl's work."

August 1916 Lebanon, Kansas " Kansas; Pearl Watson, Yuma, Colo., Carl Adams, Morganville, Kalns.; nt Adams, Goodland,' Kans.; Geo. Cook and family, Kit Carson, Colo. Marshall Crabb and family, Reams-' ville, Kans.; Will Priest, Ottawa, Kan-1 Will Smith and family, Englewood, Kans.; Mrs. George Wilson, Friend, V Nebr,; Mrs. ' Chas; Englehardt, Al- mena, Kans. Jay Nichols and family,"

September 2, 1961, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Watson, Danny, Os Watson, Mrs. Mildred Henderson and Mrs. Mable Collette attended a funeral in Smith Center Kanss of Os Watson's brother, on Saturday. He was a former resident of Eckley also."

1920 Lebanon Kansas " Mrs. Ida Watson is here from Eckley, Colorado visiting Dan Watson."
"John Watson and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Watson and her daughter, are here from Eckley, Colorado visiting his brother, Dan Watson and wife, and renewing his many old time acquaintances."

Pearl Francis Watson is buried in Smith County 1888-1961, with Nora Alice Weltman 1895-1964.

JOHN

Leslie Watson, 22, and Ida Carter, 19, married May 11, 1912 in Yuma County.

John's estate was listed in the May 8, 1919 issue, with John G. Abbott as administrator.

December 17, 1959





Minnie Bell Watson, 20, married Albert N. Atkinson on July 19, 1939 in Billings, Montana.

They're in Billings in 1940, no children.

Minnie, born February 10, 1919 in Yuma County, died September 8, 2006.


JOSEPHINE

Josie Irene married Arthur E. McCasland, and they're farming in Yuma County in 1910, Arthur 26, Josephine 25, and Velina 2.

She's buried in Yuma, July 16, 1885-October 18, 1918 # 69359052,

Josie's daughter Velma is married to Jess Decker in 1930 Norfolk, Nebraska, 21, with Jess 27.

In 1940 Norfolk, they have Joanne 9 and Jacqueline 6.

Jacqueline Snell, born January 7, 1934 in Norfolk, died January 10, 2010 in Walker Iowa, spouse of Dean Heppner. Siblings were Joanne Kirk and tom Decker.
She's buried in Cedar Rapids # 149451016.

1938 "Mrs. Rose Kruse of Denver and Mr. and Mrs. Wes Townsend of Longmont have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art McCasland recently. The ladies are sisters."

"Mrs. Walter Peavler and family of Sterling spent Suday at the home of her mother, Mrs. Art McCasland, and family."

In 1939 "Mr. Plank of Franklin, Nebraska, came Thursday for a visit with his daughter, Mrs. Art McCasland, and other relatives."

LAVERN

Hugh Laverne Watson was born March 7, 1894 in Smith County, Kansas to John H. Watson and Mary E. Cassidy.

He married Mabel M. Wright on April 5, 1916 in Yuma County.

Lavern is a telephone operator in 1920 Eckley, with Mabel 25, Jean 3, an Frankie ten months.

Hugh is running a restaurant in 1930 Eckley, 36, with Mabel 35, Gene V. 13, Frankie T. 11, and Margaret F. 10.

In 1940 Denver, Hugh L. Watson is in Denver, an elevator pilot in a hospital, 45, with Mabel M. 45 born in Illinois. Both were in Eckley in 1935. Gene V. is 22, Frank L. 20, Margery F. 19, all three born i Colorado. Wava Allen 18 is lodging with them. She was also in Eckle in 1935.

THIS IS PROBABLY A DIFFERENT ONE.
March 1916 "James and John Watson came down to Wray the first of the week and left Tuesday for St. Francis. While here, they were guests in the home of their brother, Harry Watson, and family. John Watson, who is a salesman, has taken up the work with his brother, Harry, and from this time will also represent the Mutual Oil Co. and will make his headquarters in Wray. He had formerly traveled with Kansas City as his headquarters. James, who is also a traveling salesman, will make Denver his home in the future."
