Amos W. and Rebecca (Rorabaugh) Pevler, 1N 45W



REBECCA'S FAMILY

September 1911 "County Judge Jennings performed the marriage of H. E. Rorabaugh and Miss Lillie Pevler on Saturday, Sept. 23. The groom is a prosperous young homesteader in the vicinity of Happyville and the bride is the daughter of Wat Pevler. The Gazette joins their many friends in wishing them many years of happy wedded life."

April 1914 " Yura Rorabaugh spent the latter part of last week with her sister, Mrs. Seth Barrett, while Mr. Barrett went to Denver."

November 1916 "H. E. Rorabaugh and Miss Mabel Stephens were granted a license to marry by County Clerk McKinney last Friday."

May 1931 "Abraham Lincoln Rorabaugh was born September 16, 1861, in Clearfield county, Pa., and passed away in Denver, Colorado, May 17, 1931, at the age of 60 years and 8 months. In early boyhood he moved to Illinois where his parents established a home. He lived there for nine years and then the family moved to Kansas, where the deceased grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage to Miss Florence Amemend Ballard at Hoxie, Kansas, and this union was blessed with ten children, seven of whom survive. Two died in infancy and a daughter at the age of 18 years.
Mrs. Rorabaugh passed away July 16, 1916. Six years later Mr. Rorabaugh married Mrs. Ada M. Brunick in February, 1922.
Mrs. Rorabaugh survives her husband. The children who survive are: Mrs. C. V. Hall, of Benkelman; Mrs. A. J. Peavler, of Eckley; H. E. Rorabaugh, of Riverside, Ore.; Mrs. John Gildersleve, of Beloß, Kansas; Mrs. A. W. Peavler, of Devona, Colorado; Leßoy Rorabaugh, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Mrs. Chester Crosby, of Benkelman, Neb. Twenty-seven grand children, and three great grand children also survive. z Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Hitchcock Mortuary in Wray, conducted by Rev. F. P. Morrison of the Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Eckley cemetery. The sincere sympathy of many friends is extended the bereaved family."

June 25, 1909 "Mrs. Wat Pevler died at her home, seven and one-half miles northwest of Vernon, Friday, June 18. The funeral service was held at the family residence at 10 o'clock, Sunday, June 20, Rev. David Foreman preaching the sermon.
The remains were taken to Benkelman, Nebr., for burial Sunday afternoon.
The deceased is the wife of Wat Pevler, who has lived in Yuma county for about twenty years. The family has the sympathy of the community in their bereavement."

Amos Walter Peavler and Rachel Rebecca Rorabaugh married in Yuma County on September 28, 1911.

May 1912 "Wat Pevler is building a four room house this week. Mr. Crandall is doing the carpenter."


Amos proved up a quarter in 35, 1N 45W in 1900.

June 1914 "Goldie Rorabaugh of near Eckley is visiting with her sister, Mrs. Peveler."

"Amos Walter Pevler, 84, of Emmett, a retired farmer, died Tuesday morning in a Nampa hospital after a short illness. Mr. Pevler was born Dec. 18, 1871, in Leroy, I1linois. He was married Sept. 10, 1910, in Wray, Colo., to Rachel Rorabaugh, and the couple lived in Colorado for 43 years before moving to Emmett in 1935.
In addition to Mrs. Pevler, he is survived by three sons, Norman Pevler of Emmett and Ernest and Raymond Pevler, both of Santa Monica, Calif., five daughters, Mrs Ed Stelling, Mrs. Lyle Hopkins, Mrs. Fred Stelling, Myrtle Pevler and Lillian Pevler, all of Los Angeles, two brothers, Andrew Pevler of Emmett and Oscar Pevler of Denver, Colo., two sisters, Mrs. Alice Hutton of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Rose Gregory of Mariposa, Calif., and 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be conducted at Beatty chapel, Friday at 2:30 pm. The Rev. Donald Hoffman will officiate and interment will be at Riverside."

June 1910 "Sheriff B. E. Devling went to Denver Wednesday morning, returning that same evening with Elijah Pevler, who is charged with kidnapping Lillie Pevler the 15 year old daughter of Watt Pevler, living 12 miles west of Wray, on Wednesday, May 28th. The girl was returned home some time ago, but on Wednesday, in company with the Walker girl, again ran away. Sheriff Devling traced them by phone as far as Haigler, where they were apprehended."

" Services for Mrs. Lillie Frances Meracle, 71, who came to Arizona in 1928, were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church here. Mrs. Meracle died in Benson. Burial was at Cochise Gardens of Rest here.
Mrs. Meracle, a native of Ray, Colo., had been a Benson resident since 1938. She is survived by three sons, Ralph, Floyd and Paul Meracle, all of Benson, and three daughters, Vera McDaniel and Joanna McDaniel and Ruby Bayer, all of Phoenix. "

" Vera B. McDaniel, 56, who had been a shipping clerk for Graphic Dimensions here since 1971 and before that was with Associated Lithographers for eight years, died Oct. 21, 1981, in Phoenix Memorial Hospital. Mrs. McDaniel, 610 W. Chipman, attended Creighton Elementary School and St. David High School. She was born in Nehraska and came to Phoenix from Missouri.
Survivors include her husband, Herschel D.; daughter, Shiurley Carpena; three grand sons; a sinter and two brothers.
Services will he 10 a.m. today in A I.. Moore 4 Sons Chapel of Memories."

December 1932 " Mr. and Mrs. Roy Blacker entertained at Christmas dinner Sunday the following: Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Blacker, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Blacker and family, Mr. and Mrs Fred Blacker and son Glen, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rice and daughter and son, Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Pevler and granddaughters Leona and Beulah, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pevler and son Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reavis and baby daughters Letha and Fleeta, and Mrs. Gus Peterson and family, Mrs. Ralph Sigwing and family, and Tom Hatch. There were 47 in all. Everyone enjoyed a fine dinner of turkey, duck and chicken. All had a very pleasant time and it was a late hour when all departed for their respective homes."

November 1942 "Corrilla Isebel Pevler, daughter of Lafe and Martha Pevler, was born in in Lynn County, Missouri, on April 24, 1873, and passed away at her home in Wray, on Sunday afternoon, November 22, at the age of 66 years, six months and twenty-eight days. She grew to young womanhood in Missouri. On October 8, 1892, she was united in marriage to Oscar Pevler at Bloomington, Illinois. They came to Colorado to make their home in January 1906. They lived on a homestead fourteen miles southwest of Wray, until a few years ago, at which time they moved to Wray to make their home. To this union, nine children were j bom —one daughter, Edna Mae Lucas, preceding her mother in death on October 8, 1937, at Kansas City, Missouri. Those who mourn are her husband, Oscar Pevler and the following children Mrs. Eva Starling, Eckley; Mrs. Ella Sigwing. Wray; Mrs. Edith Blacker, Wray ; Mrs. Vennie Reavis, Denver; Chase of Attumwa, Iowa; Leonard of Sterling; Delbert of Denver; and Walter of Loveland. Theer are also thirty grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were heid at the Hitchcock Mortuary Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. William Brown. Interment was at Glendale Cemetery, Vernon."

March 1957 Eckley "Donald Coffman of Breckenridge, Tex., came to visit his parents and sister, Millie Pevler, and family. He left Sunday morning to go back to his work.."

July 4, 1963 Pleasant Valley items "Sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Mabel Van Horn Pevler, who passed away at Emmet Idaho.. well known to this community."

1954 "Mrs. Millie Pevler arrived here, called by the death of Frank Pevler."

November 1970 "Navy Seaman Apprentice Terry L. Pevler, son of Mrs. Millie Pevler of Eckley, graduated from basic training and was ordered to report to the USS T.E. Chandler at Long Beach."

July 1955 "Guests recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Workman, were relatives of Mrs. Workman. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rorabaugh of Juntura, Oregon, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pevler of Emmet, Idaho. They also visited a sister, Mrs. Andrew Olson of Minature, Nebraska."
